Will the drone war in Afghanistan go on now that US troops are gone? | DW Analysis

Hours after the last US soldiers leave Afghanistan, President Joe Biden declared the war ‘over.’
The war had killed 3,500 US and allied soldiers, 66,000 Afghan military and police personnel, 51,000 Taliban fighters, and more than 47,000 civilians.
But in the same speech Biden announced that the fight against terrorism in Afghanistan and other countries will continue.
He referred to the US’s ‘over the horizon capabilities’ against the Taliban. But what exactly did he mean?
Is the US going to continue its highly controversial drone program in Afghanistan? And, if so, is the war really over?

Does it mean the US can still kill civilians in Afghanistan at will?

    – After donating Bagram air base to China, another surrender to China communist!.
    – Because of the weakness of the left wing of Canada and Biden, China communist welcomed the released Meng Wanzhou from prison as a hero with a red carpet!
Team Biden released her in a hostage trade with China!
    – Meng Wanzhou deal could set ‘dangerous precedent,’ Trump official says.

  6. R W on October 3, 2021 at 8:15 am

This is a very serious question.
What is the alternative? Terrorists can operate in the open with
impunity knowing that they are beyond the reach of our military.

Drone war only brings collateral damage

  11. user 28 on October 3, 2021 at 8:18 am

How can this guy sit there and say that he thinks all things considered there are more advantages to drone strikes than downsides? A father just told us he lost his children to these drones… Anyone who supports drone strikes deserves to die from one.

  12. Chesmy Kamar on October 3, 2021 at 8:20 am

I think the Taliban can secure and stabilize Afghanistan soon.

  16. Sayed Haschemi on October 3, 2021 at 8:25 am

Afghanistan is not a rabbit where every state can live out its evil heart! It will and must become a stable country, it is not a country where others can try out their high-tech weapons !!

I hope US do not repeat the mistake of the French and the English in Africa, wherein they were conned to give military aide to corrupt government after leaving. It backpedalled progress. Let history run its course and let the people of its region settle justice their way.

  22. cfghc on October 3, 2021 at 8:29 am

As long as terrorism continues, the war will sadly not disappear.

  23. Berandal Lokajaya on October 3, 2021 at 8:31 am

51.000 talibans & 47.000 civilians . If the casualties is about 50:50 you can’t call it collateral damage, it’s indiscriminate murders.
And the US condemned Duterte for his "murders" in his war against drugs in Philippines and called it "far from collateral damage". Talked about hypocrite 🙄

  24. Shak eyes on the sky on October 3, 2021 at 8:33 am

The war will keep going as long as there is Lithium baby Lithium um,umm um…electronic building era.. space exploration solution, unique Iron mountains ..spaceship building solution 👌staying and living on the space for a long long periods of time…precious stones and gold …

  25. Hassan Abdikarim Mohamed on October 3, 2021 at 8:35 am

Afghanistan government collapsed and has been taken over by tne Taliban, the US won’t be able to continue their drone strikes in Afghanistan without the taliban giving permission otherwise the taliban will have the right to use Chinese imported missiles to shoot down American drones if they keep violating the sovereign airspace of Afghanistan

  26. Ayush gupta on October 3, 2021 at 8:38 am

One religion is the root cause , remove it and you have a better world. Hats off to China for doing it in there country.

  27. Rambling Countryboy on October 3, 2021 at 8:38 am

Afghanistan and other countries should now invest in sophisticated ZADs to proctect itself from U.S. military operated unmanned aerial systems (UAVs or unmanned aerial vehicles): 7,362 RQ-11 Ravens; 990 AeroVironment Wasp IIIs; 1,137 AeroVironment RQ-20 Pumas; and 306 RQ-16 T-Hawk small UAS systems and 246 MQ-1 Predators and MQ-1C Gray Eagles; 126 MQ-9 Reapers. China should design something and sell it to the world putting the biggest terrorist of them all at bay, the Americans Govt.

  28. Sumanta Sahoo on October 3, 2021 at 8:38 am

Americans still sell weapons without loosing any soldier.

  30. Ilotrunis Foschkanuris on October 3, 2021 at 8:39 am

im very sorry to thee, that a man made documentation and movies public that are not from afghanistan, and we do not know wheather that dokumentation is falsified to blind a soldier. but truth can necver come out of secrecy about a war that is totally under the rule of inhumean mortality

  31. You Tube on October 3, 2021 at 8:40 am

Wars are a constant cycle of revenge, they never end. An eye for an eye will eventually leave the whole world blind.

  32. Rain Snow on October 3, 2021 at 8:40 am

Long as countries like Afghanistan has rare minerals & war is very profitable bussiness in Western countries it will never really end.

Think of this a small intermission, whole they recoup their weapons and new weapons created to test

  33. Simon H on October 3, 2021 at 8:41 am

So the difference between war and peace time is that in wars planes drop bombs and in peace drones drop bombs

  34. Waqas on October 3, 2021 at 8:44 am

Brown University, NY’s figure of death toll from this war is 900,000. Which is far more realistic. The war which was based on lies and was essentially fought for America & it allies domestic political & economic gains.

  35. Home Arathy on October 3, 2021 at 8:48 am

Russia is ready with battle tanks ,Any provocation will end Talibans .Unlike USA ,Russia will do it

  36. Ilotrunis Foschkanuris on October 3, 2021 at 8:49 am

the us where called by the afghanis to help them against modernity, and so the us striked modernity in afghanistan. that means counterinsurgency and gave way to connex-counter-insurgenzcy

  37. Marc Cooper on October 3, 2021 at 8:51 am

Mechanised AI warfare needs to be tested somewhere so why not Afghanistan?

  38. snedler on October 3, 2021 at 8:53 am

Well I guess it’s cause it’s was costing too much at the end with all the troops and equipment, this is their cheaper way to make war..
    Sadly but true

More people and military persons are killed than taliban it means taliban is still more stronger than militarys of world powers

  44. Carl McGregor on October 3, 2021 at 8:56 am

9/11 is just an excuse to sell and use weapons. USA will collapse under the weight of its own hate. If they spend the $1trillion + a year that they pour into ‘national security’ on education, infrastructure and healthcare, USA would be a country to admire and look up to. Instead corporate America is just making money selling death and hate.

  45. Ilotrunis Foschkanuris on October 3, 2021 at 8:57 am

bombing terrorism is the kind of war the internet uses as last effort of war speech against an enemy it could not understand, due to the fact one acts quantitatively and the other qualitatively.

  47. Jerald Leung on October 3, 2021 at 8:58 am

To avoid civilian casualty, ask Taliban to put on uniform. Now US drone strike will not have civilian casualty.

    BISMELA
    Salam. Alhumdulila Rabil Alalmeen.
If the sanctions are lifted , and food is given to Afghanistan; it’s important that the Taliban check & verify that there is no poison or rad dia tin etc. in the food.
In the past, they poised flour given to Egypt and put HCG {or HGC} synthetic hormones in the Tetanus Toxoid vac cin for Pakistan and Mindino & Manilla Philipeens. They put’depleted’ ra diatin is their we pns.
Bill gates killed many Africans with his vac ins . He made 490,000 Indians paralyzed with his Polio vac cn; after it was discovered & proven the WHO continued to give it to children in India soooo I wonder how many hundreds of millions or billions of people will die from the co vd vac in
