Why Demand For Armed-Drones Is Surging

Armed drones are growing in military importance as conflicts around the world have proven the utility of these effective tools of war. Companies in China, Turkey, and Russia, among others, have developed advanced remotely piloted aircraft that can use guided weapons on and off the battlefield.

The widespread use of drones in Iraq and Afghanistan by the United States to target and kill insurgents jump started a new chapter in the history of conflict. These high flying and remotely piloted aircraft could engage targets with impunity while the operators were safely working in a ground control station.

Keeping the crews out of danger also made the drones politically cheap to use over dangerous skies. Now more and more countries are gaining this military capability for their own purposes.

“At the moment, we’ve seen over 100 states worldwide using military drones and that number is growing significantly” said Wim Zwijnenburg, Project leader, Humanitarian Disarmament at PAX. “We have over 20 states that are using armed drones in conflicts or outside of armed conflicts.”

Although larger and more complex drones, like the General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper are not cheap to develop or operate, smaller drones are becoming more ubiquitous in conflict zones.

Limiting the proliferation of these smaller drones, and the ability to weaponize them, is a regulatory nightmare for government agencies around the world.

“Drones are just model airplanes with great sensors on them. And all of these are dual use and have been used in the civilian realm” said Ulrike Franke, a Senior Policy Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations. “And in fact, drones have risen enormously in the civilian realm over the last five to 10 years. And so controlling their export is really difficult.”

Watch the video above to find out why demand is surging beyond the U.S. for the multibillion dollar armed-drone market.

Once you dominate the market and sell them at ridiculous prices like 30-50 million dollars at the price of an aircraft of course you are going to complain and put down on the systems like Turkish drones. Get these facts right. 1- Turkish drones like Bayraktar, Akıncı, Aksungur, Anka are all capable of taking any targets like missile systems (pantsir, s300, 400, patriot), war ships, tanks, heavily constructed bankers even fighter jets etc 2- They don’t cost arms and legs so affordable 3- Turks don’t have to depend on you anymore 4- while c army having this high tech complicated technology, you have no way of invading Turkey. In fact you cannot win any wars even outside Turkish borders like Libya, Syria, Karabag. US & Russian systems cannot dominate the battle ground any more. Those days are long gone. You are going to kiss the feet of the Turkish warriors just like before.

Did you notice Azerbaijan tricolor flag on TB2 and operator’s uniform? Some footages were made by the Azerbaijani operators that were destroying Russian and Armenian armored vehicles in 2020 war. Today we see the result of the transfer of knowledge to Ukrainian allies. Ukraine was the only country to support Azerbaijan during First Karabagh war 30 years ago against the rus and Armenian terrorists. Ukraine was among those who supported Azerbaijan during 2020 Second Karabagh war against the same rus and their puppies the armenian terrorists. The whole world says today in Ukrainian language : Long live Ukraine – Long life the heroes! Слава Украiне – Героям слава!

Now the rules of war have changed. Turkey became the playmaker in this regard. Currently, there are many projects in this field and they are being implemented. A drone means nothing by itself. it’s a system…

OK——–… UKRAINE DESPERATELY NEEDS TANKS TO SAVE CIVILIAN LIVES; IF CZECH REPUBLIC AND POLAND CAN SEND A FEW TANKS AND IFV’s TO UKRAINE, AMERICA CAN SEND THE BEST TANK IN THE WORLD, THE M-1A1 AND BRADLEY IFV’s TO UKRAINE IN NUMBERS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE HELPING STOP PUTIN’S THUGS MURDERING CIVILIANS NOW! THERE ARE 4,000 M-1A1’s AND SOME 10,000 BRADLEY’S IN AMERICAN DEPOTS GATHERING DUST THAT ARE FAMOUS FOR KILLING RUSSIAN TANKS IN IRAQ. BIDEN MUST SEND 5OO M-1A1 TANKS AND 1500 BRADLEY’s TO UKRAIN NOW TO EQUIPE NEW BATTALION TACTICAL GROUPS ‘BTG’. WITH EACH BTG CONSISTING OF 10 TANKS, 30 IFV’s PLUSS ARTILLERY, SUPPORT EQUIPMENT, AND ABOUT 1,000 TO 1500 TROOPS, THE 500 M-1A1’S WOULD EQUIP 50 UKRAINE BTG’s. THE 50 NEW BTG’s WOULD BE MANNED BY SOME 50,000 RECRUITS TRAINING SINCE THE FIST WEEK OF THE WAR AND WILL SOON FINISH ADVANCED COMBAT TRAINING ON ARMORED VEHICLES THAT INCLUDE THE BASICS ON WESTERN TANKS AND EQUIPMENT JUST IN CASE AMERICA DOES DECIDE TO SUPPLY UKRAINE WITH M-1A1’S AND HAVE ALL THE TEC MANUALS AND SPECKS READILY ACCESSIBLE INCLUDE M-1 TANKS AND THE OLDER M-1A1 EQUIPMENT FROM THE BLACK MARKET. ENABLING UKRAINE’S CREWS AND MECHANICS TO DO BASIC TRAINING ON HARDWARE TO SAVE TIME IF AMERICA DOES THE RIGHT THING… FACT IS, THE M-1A1 EVEN THOUGH IT IS NO LONGER AMERICAS TOP-LINE TANK, THE M-1A1 IS STILL BETTER THAN THE RUSSIAN TANKS OPERATING IN UKRAINE AND WOULD MAKE A VERY BIG DIFFERENCE IN STOPPING THE COMING MASSIVE RUSSIAN OFFENSIVE AND SAVE CITIES, VILLAGES AND TENS OF THOUSANDS OF CIVILIAN LIVES AS WELL AS UKRAINE… AMERICA COULD SEND M-1A1’S TO POLAND IN JUST A FEW WEEKS USING SOME 300 C-5 AND C-17 TRANSPORTS, WHILE THE NEW BTG’S TROOPS FINISH TRAINING ON LEND-LEASE AMERICAN SIMULATORS WITH AMERICAN INSTRUCTORS IN POLAND TEACHING THE FINER POINTS OF HOW TO MAINTAIN, OPERATE AND FIGHT THE BEST TANKS IN THE WORLD AND WITH UKRAINE’S BEST MOST EXPERIENCED COMMANDERS WOULD SAVE UKRAINE AND TENS OF THOUSANDS OF CIVILIANS FROM BEING MURDERED EACH WEEK WHILE DRIVING RUSSIAN GUNS OUT OF RANGE OF MOST CITIES.

K——-… FACT IS, TO MAKE SURE UKRAINE WINS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND STOPS PUTIN FROM TAKING MORE CITIES, MURDERING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF CIVILIANS, AMERICA MUST SEND A THOUSAND OLD RETIRED M-1A1 TANKS WITH THE CORRESPONDING BRADLEYS AND LONG RANGE COUNTER BATTERY GUN AND ROCKET ARTILLERY TO EQUIP AN ADDITIONAL 100 NEW UKRAINIAN BTG’s. THE AMERICAN EQUIPPED BTG’S WITH MOST NATO COUNTRIES SENDING THEIR RETIRED T-72 WILL GIVE UKRAIN ANOTHER HUNDRED BTG’S… AND WOULD ALLOW UKRAINE TO FINALLY MATCH THE NUMBER OF RUSSIAN TANKS THAT ARE NOW MASSING USING NEW CONSCRIPTS AND RECALLED RESERVES INTO A HUNDRED NEW BTG’S DRAWING FROM 10,000 RUSSIAN RESERVE TANKS. BUT IT IS THE 1,000+ M-1A1’S AND IFV’S, WITH AMERICAN LONG RANGE COUNTER BATTERY AND INTELLIGENCE EQUIPMENT (ONCE COMBAT TRAINED AND FULLY DEPLOYED) THAT WILL ENABLE UKRAINE TO END THIS WAR IN WEEKS INSTEAD OF MONTHS AND POSSIBLY YEARS,,, SAVING HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of CIVILIANS IF NOT A MILLION FROM BEING MURDERED BY THE GUNS OF PUTIN’S TERROR LACKY TROOPS WITH THEIR BODIES BURNED IN THE CREMATORIAMS EACH RUSSIAN BTG HAS TO GET RID OF THE EVIDENCE… NO BODIES, NOTHING FOR THE WORLD TO SEE AND CONDEMN…
KK— PLEASE CALL AND WRITE YOUR CONGRESSMAN TO DEMAND AMERICA SEND UKRAINE WHAT IT DESPERATELY NEEDS!!!! —- "M-1A1 TANKS AND BRADLEY AFV’s…

Nobody was talking about drones when Israel and USA were the monopoly and supplying the world with their overpriced devices. Now that the "other" countries have chimed in, so called experts suddenly started to talk about ethics and civilian deaths. They still cannot handle the fact that we live in a different world after the Cold War.

  33. sSemTeXx on April 23, 2022 at 6:52 pm

The Canadian companies that sold the cameras is now bankrupt because of the embargo. Canada selling out their domestic technology companies during a pandemic, for populism.

  34. Halim K Bas on April 23, 2022 at 6:55 pm

Some research and so little insight… This short documentary is clearly prepared by the kind of people who could not foresee the shift of drone technology. Funny how they are focusing on the smallest exported drones provided by China and Turkey and completely ignore much larger models by these countries. These larger models are not prototypes, or ambitions either. We are talking about drones such as Anka S, Aksungur, Goksungur etc. all of which have been deployed in major conflicts around the world. You can see they want to maintain a certain level of superiority in the eyes of the "western" audience.

  35. POINT BLANK on April 23, 2022 at 6:56 pm

US is using and selling these drones for years, killing civilians too, but when others could develop the tech. US Media started to CRY OUT! US should have all advanced equipments and nuclear weaponsso they can easily wipe out countries from earth…And of course US lost markets so thats why now it is against human rights 🙂

the missiles build in Bayraktar calls MAM-L or MAM-C. these made in Turkey under license. UTC Aerospace Systems (UTAS) is a subsidiary of US aerospace giant Collins Aerospace was founded in 2012. the UTAS group produces the laser technology for the MAM-L and MAM-C missiles used by Turkish drones under the name Atlantic Inertial Systems in England. The MAM-C weighs six and a half kilograms, has a circumference of seventy millimeters and is called "Cirit" in Turkey. The MAM-L weighs 22 kilograms. Both rockets have the special feature of being laser-powered.
TDW is the German-based subsidiary of European missile system developer MBDA, which in turn has French and Italian partners. TDW has adopted the design of the OMTAS missiles launched from Turkish drones. The OMTAS anti-tank missile has been made ready for use in combat drones with the tandem warhead system produced by TDW. With the support of the TDW, these 35-kilogram medium-range missiles with a range of four kilometers have been enabled to change their target direction after launch. The head office of TDW is in Schrobenhausen in Bavaria. The armaments group sold the production license for the "killer missile system" to Turkey for a total of 290,000 euros. TDW has been working with the Turkish state since 2010.

"Thielert Aircraft Engines GmbH" and "Continental Aerospace Technologies GmbH" merged in Germany in 2013 and founded the Continental Motors group. The group produces engines for small airplanes and aircraft. Continental Motors has developed the "Continental CD 155" diesel engine for the Bayraktar TB2 and the "PD155" engine for the Anka-S.

According to the federal government, Continental Motors has been working with Turkey since 2010. The answer to a request from the left faction shows that agreements between the group and Turkey were approved in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015 and 2016. The contents of these agreements will be treated as "state secrets" and will not be made public.
    ————————————————————————————————————-
Numerics Software GmbH, based in Petershausen near Munich, provided support with the programming of Turkish drones. According to the Federal Ministry of Economics, two agreements between the company and the Turkish state were approved in 2008, one in 2011 and two more in 2013.

These agreements are also not published with reference to a judgment of the Federal Constitutional Court in 2014. The ruling states that the government can treat sales contracts as "state secrets" if necessary.
    ————————————————————————————————————
The camera is the main technological equipment of armed and unarmed drones. The companies Bayraktar and TAI, which produce drones for the Erdogan regime, use electro-optical and infrared cameras from Canada’s Wescam .
Wescam has even expanded its cooperation with the Erdogan regime and granted the Turkish drone manufacturer Baykar the right to license the technical installation. Baykar has formed a subsidiary company called Baykar Wescam Service Center. This means that the entire maintenance and program update of the MX-15D and CMX-15D models can be carried out in Turkey.
    ——————————————————————————————————————-
Wescam finally ended its cooperation with Baykar after the Ottawa government issued an export ban following the Nagorno-Karabakh war.
The Hensoldt Group from Germany, which specializes in sensor technology, could now benefit from the continued need for imports. This is indicated by recordings of a parade in the capital of Turkmenistan, at which a newly purchased "TB2" was also shown in Ashgabat two weeks ago to mark the 30th anniversary of independence.

The drone was equipped with a Hensoldt gimbal.
Electro-optical sensors are installed in the hemispherical gimbal, it is the eye of the drone and contains a laser marker.
    ——————————————————————————————————————
but due to sanctions Iran has to rely on its own development.
Iran has also supplied defense systems to Houthis in Yemen, which include two Saudi Bayraktar drones
shot down in Jan.2021 and March 2021.

Iran is already developing anti-drone systems that are not yet mature.
