Where you shouldn't fly your drone in Arizona – Do your own research to be sure

Okay, when you stumble across a website that recommends flying in restricted airspace over and over again, you might want to double check things yourself. Just because you read something or watch something on the Internet doesn’t make it true.

As drone pilots we’re responsible for our drone’s flight, and for the airspace we’re operating in. Today’s video talks about a few places recommended by a website that totally gets it wrong. National Parks, National Monuments, and tribal lands are all offered as great places to fly your drone in Arizona according to the article, and they get it so wrong.

Fly smart, fly safe, and have fun. Do your own research before you fly.

I’m in the market for a drone and was looking at Kittyhawk just to check out the areas I was interested in flying. Everything was good to go, then I watched the AZ Drone video on flying in wilderness areas, which AZ is full of. No go. Seems like Kittyhawk and B4UFLY will not warn you of wilderness areas. Airmap seems to be more comprehensive and easy to interpret, whereas Skyvector is the gold standard but hard to decipher to the newbie. Also, most of the trailheads in Sedona indicate a No Drone Zone.

Hey, Rich I’m new to Drone’s and I am doing as a hobbyist. I live in Tucson I think you do as well. I was just wondering if you had any places that would make for cool videos? I have had alot of trouble finding places to fly here. Even when I use aps like kittyhawk and sky vector I always seem to have someone come and tell me " You cant fly that here" . I am always polite and apologize and immediately leave but it’s getting to the point where i’m considering selling my drone and giving up. I LOVE taking aerial photography of Tucson but it seems no matter how well I research and how legitimate my flight locations are I still constantly being told by authorities " you can’t do that here". These are all places mind you that kittyhawk and skyvector claim its okay to fly in. I was flying off of Tangerine rd in the blm land and someone saw me flying called the rangers out and they asked me to leave. Any tips would help but im honestly at my wits end with all of this. It’s starting to seem not worth the headache. Thanks Rich love you’re vids!
