CBO INFO: “…The Aircraft is Operated in Accordance With or Within the Programming of a CBO’s Set of Safety Guidelines That are Developed in Coordination With the FAA. Once the FAA has developed the criteria for recognition of CBOs and started officially recognizing CBOs, those CBOs’ safety guidelines will be available for use. During this interim period, the FAA offers two means to satisfy this statutory condition. Recreational flyers should be able to explain to an FAA inspector or law enforcement official which safety guidelines they are following…”

**** Technically you DO NOT need PRINTED CBO documents with you, you only need to be able to state what CBO guidelines you’re following (in addition to the FAA rules for recreational pilots). My experience is that it doesn’t hurt to have it along though, as when the police are my face my memory isn’t as sharp as it should be… 😉 For the moment, the easiest is to use the existing rules from the FAA for recreational pilots (or the AMA rules, see the links below) as a ‘proxy’ for the CBO Guidelines. You need to be able to state that’s what you’re doing though, “…Yes Officer, I can tell you what CBO rules I’m following, but at the moment I am substituting these guidelines instead of using the CBO guidelines as allowed by the FAA as stated in AC 91-57B in this interim, and the rules are…(state the current recreational pilot rules or the AMA rules)”. Keep in mind though when the FAA recognizes actual CBOs you’ll need to pick one and be able to discuss and follow those rules. This is probably coming soon, before the end of the year is my guess. I did add links below to make it clearer as I think the FAA made it a bit more confusing than it needs to be with the AC 91-57B circular.

Thx Keith. Looked but could not find the link to the different standards you reference in the video. Please assist. Thx!

I will take this test also

  3. greg stevens on May 7, 2022 at 6:31 pm

i am from canada is this test for the states only or can i do this test to

  4. Crow YT on May 7, 2022 at 6:33 pm

Do I have to take this test even if I am in Canada?

  5. Bob Nelson on May 7, 2022 at 6:34 pm

    Man, thanks!

  6. Summer Crow on May 7, 2022 at 6:34 pm

The question isn’t can I explain the rules to them it’s if they have enough experience to know the difference between what I tell them and any BS I make up because I seriously doubt any flat foot I meet in the mountains will know his butt from a hole in the ground

  7. Steve on May 7, 2022 at 6:34 pm

Thank you so much. I followed all your instructions and smoked the test and got my certificate. Keep making great vids

  8. David Perez on May 7, 2022 at 6:35 pm

Keith, love your channel. I have been following drone channels for years and never ran into your channel untill last week. Thanks for doing your compliance videos. …very useful.

My neighbor started giving me a hard time amout my mavic mini 2 and he is the type to call the cops. I had no idea the FAA had changed thir rules for recreational flyiers to include a test. Just took it to make sure i am completely legal. Thanks so much!!!

  9. Crow YT on May 7, 2022 at 6:37 pm

Also are the multiple choice questions always the same?????

  10. Ria Jairam on May 7, 2022 at 6:38 pm

Did it, easy peasy. Keep it with my part 107 certificate in case I ever fly recreationally

  11. KILOBYTS on May 7, 2022 at 6:42 pm

You are now taking the test for them not them taking the test heheh

  12. lcarus42 on May 7, 2022 at 6:42 pm

Keep jumping through the hoops. Us gun owners know how fast that slight slope turns into a cliff that you need permits and expensive gear to scale.

  13. Chase Truitt on May 7, 2022 at 6:42 pm

Would it benefit me more just to go ahead and get my 107 license

  14. James Pollock on May 7, 2022 at 6:42 pm

So Cessna pilots need a visual observer on the ground with line of site of their airplane because they are flying first person right? My fear is that making uav rules more strict than actual pilot rules will lead to people disregarding them entirely.

  15. Jason H on May 7, 2022 at 6:43 pm

Thanks for the video. I wouldn’t have known about a new test. It’s getting ridiculous all the new requirements now

  16. mdn 607 on May 7, 2022 at 6:44 pm

Took me all of 3 minutes. And now I have a certificate that makes me look official to anyone who didn’t know any better!

  17. alex babbitt on May 7, 2022 at 6:44 pm

Thank you for all your information.. I saved all your provided documents to my phone and we’ll be studying to get the 107 certification. Keep up the great videos

  18. Julio Fabian Vlogs on May 7, 2022 at 6:45 pm

another informative video mr. bryan mills! thankyou.

  19. tom mills on May 7, 2022 at 6:45 pm

Mr Keith, you should mention that it’s impossible to fail the trust test if they hurry before FAA adds to it. And it’s fun.

  20. James Barker on May 7, 2022 at 6:45 pm

This only applies to persons operating a UAV/drone that weighs over 250 grams correct?

  21. john hunter on May 7, 2022 at 6:46 pm

Just wait soon we will need a licence for any activity! A licence to: for any sport…bowling, golf, tennis etc, to walk, to speak, eat, breath , use a chair, watch tv, oil paint….etc etc! 1984 is coming!

  22. Nick Rich on May 7, 2022 at 6:52 pm

I have two drones do both of them need to be registered

  23. Mickey McH on May 7, 2022 at 6:54 pm

Recreational flyers probably aren’t doing it because there was no notification of the test. The only ways recreational flyers would know of the test is by word of mouth or if they had to renew their registration (or register for the first time) and actually read the requirements and even if they did, the test did not exist until early summer of 2021 even though technically the FAA added that to the requirements a long time ago without any notification whatsoever to the recreational pilots. If they can notify pilots of registration renewal they can notify pilots of tests when they become available but they don’t. Am I surprised that the FAA moves the goal post by changing the rules without any notification? Not at all, that is what they do.
I contacted the FAA back in March or April of 2021 with questions about the test. First I got a computer response that left more questions and answered nothing. I contacted the FAA again and requested a response from an actual human being. The response I got back then was there was no test of that date and they didn’t expect the test to be ready until early or late summer of 2021. The FAA also said until that time you can fly and there is no rush to take the test. That said, I don’t trust a word that comes out of their mouths.

  25. L Myrski on May 7, 2022 at 6:55 pm

The AMA completely wipes out things that the FAA has allowed, making them more restrictive because their rules were meant for RC aircraft….which are a lot less safe and often heavier than drones. For instance the FAA allows you to transit over people and moving vehicles (not remain above), while the AMA outright prohibits it. Seems to me that the fix is in and the AMA is worse than the FAA in terms of restrictions. Unless the AMA revises their rules for drones under 250 grams I’m no fan of theirs.

  26. whatnow121 on May 7, 2022 at 6:58 pm

So glad your making this content available. As of right now if you fly a drone your going to be non compliant in some category and possibly fined for such.

  27. Yes Forever 18 on May 7, 2022 at 6:59 pm

One thing that I think is very import is to get propeller protectors installed on the drone.
The protector is not only protector the drone from collision, but also protect you and other being hurt.

Specially beware of your neck when you are holding the drone.

  28. OutdoorsGamerGuy on May 7, 2022 at 7:00 pm

Okay, so I have a cheap little "toy drone" that does have a camera on it. I am new to drones and i have some footage i thought about posting on my channel. It’s not of anyone but me and family. Am I still not allowed to post footage? Like I said I am new to all of this and i am so confused. I got the drone to post videos or pictures up of like scenery or with my family or friends and I’m not even sure if I can post it?

Pardon the delayed comment, but hi Keith!!! Thanks for the shout-out in this video. Love your channel and hope we get to fly together one day!

  31. Don Adams on May 7, 2022 at 7:02 pm

I fly RC airplanes, not drones. I still have to take the drone test! Give me a break!

  32. NullMatrix on May 7, 2022 at 7:03 pm

I did not see that on my test and have no clue we had a CBO we must follow. I am sure a High % of people with drones just do not look to see if the Gov. has updated rules. The same goes with any new rules unless it is published everywhere most are not going to take the time to seek this information. In my quick opinion and I could be wrong it just sounds like a CBO is going to end up like the HOA of drone flyers.

  34. brandon garrison on May 7, 2022 at 7:07 pm

Is this the same as flyers I’d and operator I’d? Dost anyone no plzzzzz thanks

  36. PraiseGod on May 7, 2022 at 7:07 pm

Thank you! I had no idea about any of this. Been a mostly off again, on again rec flyer for the last couple years. Info came in handy; took the test, got a certificate, now have to track down a CBO for my area. Then we’re good to go again!

  37. silverado truck on May 7, 2022 at 7:11 pm

Thank you for such Great Content…I now have the Trust Cert. I am planning to purchase the DJI Mini 2 tomorrow and your information is very useful and practical. One question>
I printed out the AMA CBO Handbook…
    When you state
"you only need to be able to state what CBO guidelines you’re following"..

What exactly are you referring to? do you mean state all of the rules from the CBO you have with you (ie following)/ ? or do you just mean
Officer I am following the AMA CBO guidelines.

  43. Curly Maple Bandit on May 7, 2022 at 7:20 pm

When flying away from home, there is a current aeronautical chart, & full copy of the FARs in my truck, within view of where I’m standing. Have dealt with the Faa for decades. Most of the FSDO guys think of a license as a starting place to learn, as opposed to local Leo who will think if you have a license, you must know it all. Goal is to become a porcupine, too much trouble to deal with.
When you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bull Shyte .

  47. Vdokid1 Productions on May 7, 2022 at 7:21 pm

If you fail the "Trust" test the first time taking it, how long do you have to wait to retake it? You say the test, you cannot fail. No serious test is that easy. What is the catch or negative thing am I going to get hit with when I sign-up to take this test. There is always some "Gotcha" clause to any every test. I’m assuming that it may be free, as you say, to take it, but then you want to charge a fee to provide me the certificate upon completion. I know I am not an educated person when it comes to the confusing requirements of the "FFA", but I do know that they are not going to give certificates away willy nilly for free. They always want money for one thing or another. A test like this would be awesome if it was free, but like always, this is not the case.

  48. Joe on May 7, 2022 at 7:24 pm

Thanks for explain the testing. Question? Where do i find the CBO guidelines? I have no clue to which one im following like u said. Lol.
