What Makes a Good Drone Case?

You need a quality storage solution/carrying case for your drone. You spend a lot of money on that drone, so protect it properly. In this video, I explain what I look for in a high quality drone case, and show you what I think are 2 of the best cases you can get for the money.

Check out the LowePro BP150 here: https://amzn.to/34hgjPm

After I did some research, this MC-Cases version for the Mavic 2 Pro is even better! It can hold the smart controller and an extra battery for the same price! Check it out here: https://amzn.to/2MOOdVY

I have the GPC hard case for Mavic 2 Pro and smart controller. There are cutouts for the sticks and you don’t have to remove the lanyard. Another high quality option and its made in the USA

As usual another great informative video from you. Just a tip, with all my nylon backpack/cases I spray them with Scotchgard the first day I have them. Doesn’t make them waterproof but adds a layer of protection. Thanks!

  4. Jake Sloan on December 25, 2020 at 10:15 pm

I couldn’t agree more, as someone who is out and about in the wilderness a lot good protection for you $1,000.00+ is a must!!

  5. Donald Dupre on December 25, 2020 at 10:15 pm

I have the Nanak cases for both my Mavic Mini and the Air 2 and accessories, really like them.

  6. IAMKION on December 25, 2020 at 10:16 pm

I have that same lowepro backpack……. love it!!!

  7. Tundra Whisperer on December 25, 2020 at 10:16 pm

For me GPC makes the perfect hard case for my set up, that also houses my Smart Controller without having to remove the lanyard. 4 battery capacity too.

  8. Louis Sanson on December 25, 2020 at 10:18 pm

You should check Nanuk cases920 or 925, they are indestructible!

  9. All About Spain by BarryHaylor on December 25, 2020 at 10:20 pm

Russ any idea how to contact Lekufee, I have a case for a different drone, I want to buy an insert for the mini 2. Thanks Barry Spain 🇪🇸

  10. Paul Huval on December 25, 2020 at 10:24 pm

I guess i will give you a thumbs up there. Lol. I did like the hard case there as i do bring the drone on the water at times. 👍

  11. Phil Anderson on December 25, 2020 at 10:24 pm

I have a hard case for my Typhoon H. Cutouts are precise and it’s the best accessory I’ve purchased for my drone.

  12. meehhhe Of You on December 25, 2020 at 10:24 pm

I always feel like every solution and bag has its own problems. Usually with my Mavics I just toss them into flymore bag then tuck that into my backpack already using to travel with and if I’m low on space I just attach the fly more bag to the outside of my backpack using the military molly straps.

My only dedicated bag I use for my drones is a LowPro bag that’s uniquely designed for the inspire in travel mode. Very unique bag and allows me to keep battery and props attached (but not that camera) and has pouches for several batteries, a camera attachment, and controllers and screens/tablets. but I hate carrying that inspire 1 around with me in another other way. And makes it possible to take more locations without awkward case or setup.

As for phantoms… I feel sorry for phantom guys, I sold my phantom 4 Pro because traveling with that thing was awkward having to pack a large awkward cube basically.

  13. K Arthur on December 25, 2020 at 10:25 pm

Sorry, it appears that MC doesn’t make a case for the EVO.

  14. Edwin van den Akker on December 25, 2020 at 10:26 pm

I was looking for the "Making of" video by MC. Do you still have that link? I couldn’t find it in the description. 🙂

  15. RS Miller on December 25, 2020 at 10:27 pm

Russ, if a guy was to upgrade to MP2 which one do you recommend? Is the video quality that much better on the Pro than the Zoom?

  16. Ramon Lerma Travels on December 25, 2020 at 10:29 pm

    Nice case!

  17. Skata’s Drone View on December 25, 2020 at 10:30 pm

Great case! I use a Nanuk case for my P4V2, and I love it. The one thing it has over the MC is that the latches have a locking tab, so you can’t have them pulled open by accident. Other than that it is the exact same type of case. They also make a one that has wheels, so it is easier for long walking transport. I did not get that one yet, but do plan to in the future. Great review and Take Care

  18. Eli on December 25, 2020 at 10:31 pm

I have a nanuk hard case for just my mavic pro. When traveling I use my lowrpro 450 BP AW II to hold my mavic pro along with cameras and several lenses.

  19. BIG DRONE FLYER77 R/C on December 25, 2020 at 10:32 pm

I like me my cases almost as much as the drone. Love the backpack case, I well have to get one sometime. Thanks Russ, have a safe labor day with the fam.

  20. RedBoy Vlogcast on December 25, 2020 at 10:32 pm

Hard cases are also super helpful if you find you need to check your drone with the airline.

  21. jb10940 on December 25, 2020 at 10:34 pm

Great video! I use the lowepro dronegaurd bp250 and love it. It’s great for when I go hiking and it fits everything nicely.

  23. Ilias Andresakis on December 25, 2020 at 10:35 pm

Hello and thank you very much for so many details. I would like to ask if the LowePro BP 150 could handle Ipad pro 10.5 except mavic 2 pro with 3 batteries e.t.c.

  26. DavidinEssexUK on December 25, 2020 at 10:40 pm

Hard cases are the way to go but I like a shoulder strap too.

  27. Droning Harry on December 25, 2020 at 10:42 pm

I have the Lowe Pro for my Air and love it. It’s a great case and protects it very well. I had one with my Phantom 3SE but I sold it recently and the case went with the Drone. I don’t really have to worry about water so I think i’m in pretty good shape. I also think that for the money it’s a great value. I might upgrade to the hard shell if we start traveling more with the Trailer next year as well. Looks like you have a nice Eagle 5th Wheel sitting back there as well. We have a North Trail 4 season 24 foot and love it.

  28. tone1myth2ad on December 25, 2020 at 10:42 pm

Can they be locked, either one?

  29. Rick Kearney Photography on December 25, 2020 at 10:43 pm

Hi Russ, please don’t forget about those of us who went a little nuts with the credit card and got the smart controller! I had to research long and hard before deciding on a backpack that would properly protect the larger controller as well as the M2P!

Good video..I have the fly more kit for my mavic 2 pro but I’m a bit worried that the bag wont travel well on a plane…so I’m looking for an alternative..two good options there. Thanks

  32. Ryan Swindlehurst on December 25, 2020 at 10:47 pm

I got a good Caden Bag on Amazon
Carries my D3500 and my Mavic Air with all accessories for both

  33. Ian on December 25, 2020 at 10:49 pm

I have the PolarPro backpack which works really well for my Mavic 2 pro, smart controller, batteries, extra controller, and much more. I even have a sleeve for my laptop.

I also have a hard shell case from MC cases i got off of Amazon which is a good "at home" protection case.

I wish we could attach pictures in the comments. (YouTube fix this)

  34. Tim McGee on December 25, 2020 at 10:50 pm

My photographer daughter was using LowePro stuff before I’d even heard of it. She noticed they made a backpack for my Mavic Pro, so she got me one for my birthday a couple years back! (What a great kid!) Fortunately, when I upgraded to the M2P, everything still fit. It’s a great backpack, and I’ve used it a lot. Tip: Put a carabiner on the handle so when you’re near a fence or other suitable structure, you can clip it on at a good working level instead of doing everything from the ground.

  35. RedBoy Vlogcast on December 25, 2020 at 10:51 pm

I love the Manfrotto Aviator D1 Backpack. I can carry my Phantom and Mavic 2 zoom with all the batteries in one case/backpack. Works great on site with a client so I’m not carrying around multiple cases.

  36. NoOneSpecific on December 25, 2020 at 10:52 pm

The backpack case looks like it would probably hold my spark and my mavic air, I’m a truck driver and I keep them in my truck always , I’ll use your link to get one. I got a set of the master air screw stealth props for the mav air, it’s like a whole different drone now. I was considering a mavic zoom , but it seems strange how dji has let about every drone in their line up go out of stock. Makes me wonder what’s up with them, so I’m holding off until it becomes clear. You have an awesome channel , thanks for what you do, I’m subbed and this is my go to channel for any question that comes up concerning my drones and ways to get good use of them, great job!!

  37. Bluegrass Drone Guy on December 25, 2020 at 10:53 pm

I use my flymore kit bag, has everything except my iPad, and I can drop the whole bag into my badlands backpack if I want to take it along on hunting trip, in the fly more bag I have M2, 2 ND filter cases, 3 batteries, cables and connectors, strobes, mav Mount, lanyards, Remote controller, Xtra props, etc.
    Thanks for tutorial Russ 👍

  39. Dajuan Hayes on December 25, 2020 at 10:56 pm

I just purchased the bag. Looks good but I can tell it seem like it’s not taylormade for a drone. However it seem to have much space.

  40. Christopher W on December 25, 2020 at 10:57 pm

What about GPC case,,? I heard there the best, and they make a backpacks with that hard foam in them.

  41. Ted T on December 25, 2020 at 10:58 pm

Good review Russ…do you think the backpack will carry a thin laptop? Been looking to upgrade both my backpack & travel case to better suit my M2P, and I saw the MC-CASE hardcase last week and thought it looked good – your review convinced me so I went ahead and ordered both the backpack & hardcase via your link below. Thanks.

  42. Jerry Pan on December 25, 2020 at 10:59 pm

These hard shell cases are ridiculous. I always felt that people will call the cops because some suspicious guy is about to set up a bomb or something. The cameras and other toys we have – do anybody has the hard shell case for them. I have been carrying my sony camera in soft camera back for years and it is fine. Same goes for the drones. I see the use for the hard shell for someone who is packing the car with all kinds of equipment and needs to stack the cases/boxes on top of the other….

  43. Budd Bieber on December 25, 2020 at 11:01 pm

    One that works!

Will check out the hard cases for my Mavic Pro.

  48. BRP on December 25, 2020 at 11:06 pm

The price on the MC-case is dang reasonable! Thanks Russ! I agree that you have an educated opinion! Love the information in you videos.

I just bought a case based on your recommendation and your video was great. Thanks Russ

  50. theview.f.u.h on December 25, 2020 at 11:09 pm

Great case comparison. One request, could we avoid the “big kid toy” type descriptions do you think? As professional UAV/RPAS pilots, I think it’s important to see these, and for others to understand them, as aircraft rather than toys – it’s why there are exams and certification. It has been the “buy and fly” owners treating their aircraft as toys that has caused the need for all the regulations we now have to follow.
