Watch the Navy's LOCUST launcher fire a swarm of drones

The Navy’s new LOCUST (Low-Cost UAV Swarming Technology) launchers fire a swarm of drones that can jam enemy communications, and waste enemy resources by drawing fire. The launchers are capable of tube-launching 31 drones in just 40 seconds. The drones can fly autonomously but can also be controlled manually.

At just $15,000 a unit, the drones are expendable and can be used in dangerous situations. LOCUS is now in its development and testing phase.

We’re being fleeced by defense contractors. That rinky dink drone probably didn’t cost them a hundred dollars to make.

This video is confusing. There are clearly 2 types of drones here, both very different, but I can’t tell which one the various descriptions are referring to…

You know it’s bad when they use an acronym in an acronym

  14. LaurelRuth Finnerty on July 24, 2022 at 8:05 pm

Doesn’t this remind you of Biblical verses from the Book of the Revelation of Jesus the Messiah.
"9 Then the fifth angel sounded: And I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth. To him was given the key to the [a]bottomless pit. 2 And he opened the bottomless pit, and smoke arose out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace. So the sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke of the pit. 3 Then out of the smoke LOCUSTS came upon the earth. And to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 THEY WERE COMMANDED not to harm the grass of the earth, or any green thing, or any tree, but only those men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5 And [b]they were NOT GIVE AUTHORITY to kill them, but to torment them for five months. Their torment was like the torment of a scorpion when it strikes a man. 6 In those days men will seek death and will not find it; they will desire to die, and death will flee from them."
This is all coming into focus very clearly.

Another excellent display of your wasted tax dollars at work. There is absolutely no reason drones should need to be launched by such an unreasonably non-portable and overpriced deployment system. Drones of this size should be capable of vertical take off and landing without the need for this waste of space that screams “bomb me, I’m important” on the battlefield. This concept needs to be thrown out and our tax dollars need refunded immediately. Pathetic.

And 15k per drone is also outrageous. I can get a group of people together that can build a more effective and better priced drone than this. Horrible design. Horrible concept. Horrible price. For 15k to be “expendable” you are essentially launching a US citizens car off a cliff each time a drone is deployed.

  20. ltitus8900 on July 24, 2022 at 8:11 pm

It’s official. Bandai is a hacking team disguised as a game studio. How else can you explain why the drones look and deploy like the drones we see here.

Next you know, US new 6th gen fighter will be the ASF-X lol.

Wonder how long it took them to acronymise it in a way that it kind of comes out as ‘LOCUST’ (but not really)

  30. Saffron's World on July 24, 2022 at 8:25 pm

I’m 75 and retired, but I can remember when the military first began working on drones and UAV’s back in the 1980’s. I never dreamed they would advance to what we see today.

  32. Kenneth Bellotte on July 24, 2022 at 8:29 pm

Truth is if the government wants they could manufacture these suicide switchblade drones for less than 500 bucks and have them launched in swarms and be an amazing weapon…but it’s all about money and kickbacks the political powers get and generals get

  44. Michael Windheuser on July 24, 2022 at 8:42 pm

The enemy would just launch small shell which can generate an EMP which would knock out the drones.

  45. Revolution Marine on July 24, 2022 at 8:43 pm

The real drones used in the launcher are the Switchblade drones that we recently sent to Ukraine yet they probably don’t have this big launcher, just the mobile personal tube launchers!

Russian weapons are by far better than this rubbish…

  47. howie181 on July 24, 2022 at 8:45 pm

Is this a defensive measure for a temporary counter attack? What’s its range? Battery time? Better to make kamikaze drones, which would just be a guided missile …? There was a 150kg lifting capable Norwegian drone being built a couple of years back that has a capability for small teams against tanks and shipping….

  49. Gdurant on July 24, 2022 at 8:46 pm

What is the Navy doing with US army drones and wasting money? Maybe we should just cut the bunch of the Navy by 80%? Or else maybe the Army should buy nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers as well? How pathetic and stupid is this? Stop Navy waste you scumbags

  50. Islamisthecultofsin on July 24, 2022 at 8:49 pm

Why aren’t these being sent to Ukraine?
