VoloDrone, Heavy-lift Utility Cargo Drone, Introduced – Agriculture & Construction

Volocopter, the pioneer in Urban Air Mobility, presented the demonstrator of its VoloDrone. This marks Volocopters expansion into the logistics, agriculture, infrastructure and public services industry. The VoloDrone is an unmanned, fully electric, heavy-lift utility drone capable of carrying a payload of 200 kg (440 lbs) up to 40 km (25 miles). With a standardized payload attachment, VoloDrone can serve a great variety of purposes from transporting boxes, to liquids, to equipment and beyond. It can be remotely piloted or flown in automated mode on pre-set routes.

The VoloDrone has been engineered to serve challenging missions across industries ranging from agriculture, logistics, and infrastructure to public services, offering time and cost advantages compared to existing solutions.

The first flight of the VoloDrone demonstrator in October 2019 marks the beginning of intensive customer interaction in real-life applications, which provides the basis for the serial product.

To get started and to build a long safety record, I think that this is a better choice than focusing on transporting humans. Also, it markets the product towards those that can actually afford to buy it. Great job!!!!

    Hey Volocopter,
    Congratulations to your DB-Schenker-Deal!
I really like the idea of flying taxis and carrier. But how does it work with our current weather conditions? It’s wet, it’s very windy since 1,5 months. A good weather transporter will only work in a few regions all over the world.
Safety and reliability will be the most important facts for a success or a failure.
This is the absolut giant advantage of the ground versus the air. Every idiot can drive around at nearly every weather condition.
On the other side of course the air offers much more space. But here comes the next challenge. The air room is already used by commercial airlines. So you need to have an arrangement with the EASA (flight control Europe) and each regional, national and international organisation. There are so many difficult obstacles in the landscape. Like windmills, power poles, trees, radio towers, buildings and so on.
So please don’t get me wrong but I cannot imagine that it will be possible to solve all these important questions/problems.

Maybe in closed areas like company propertys. With perfect signals of gps and internet. Teslas Gigafactory…. But in the real world I believe that it will stay a dream.
This could only run with autopilot and the signal quality will be necessary for safe flights. And this is not manageable in the world. Even not with 5G standard.

And even for transportation the wind will be the problem you will never fix. Imagine there is a drone flying through the streets of a city with people walking around and buildings and everything – and then the drone wants to drop the package and in this moment a gust of wind comes along. Then the drone will be pushed to the side an could hit people.
Of course people dying already in cities because of traffic fails but this was a slowly grown process over 100 years what made it acceptable. And no one of us is afraid of getting hurt when we think about walking around in a city. So the risk is not that high. But people will be afraid of everything new. Look at the situation with e-scooters in the cities. And for real this is nothing crazy new stuff. But flying drones what will ever have a safety problem because of all the obstacles and weather will never be accepted to fly around in between the normal traffic of a current city.

I would really love that your vision comes true but I cannot imagine that this will really happen. I talked to similar companies like lillium and PAL-V…. and all of them have the same troubles.
So please let us know if there are solutions for those things or not.
