$100 Off because I love you I guess:

If you’re on a mega-budget, You can STILL get awesome footage. A mini 2 is still a really good drone and DJI told me they don’t want the Mini 3 Pro and Mini 2 to compete. It isn’t a replacement its just a more VIP option but the same size.
Mini 2 Pro still gets RAW format photography, 4k footage stabilized, awesome connection on the newer remote, it still kicks man.

It is a 1/2.3″ sensor and shoots 12 megapixel photos but it is PLENTY to grow with. Just find it used on Craigslist, Ebay, Facebook Marketplace, Offerup for like $250 or lower.

Mini SE – $250 New
(used to be called Mavic Mini)
2.7k and JPEG photos only but can live in your pocket

Mini 2 – $450
4K, RAW photos, Great connection, really impressive for the size, convenience and ease

Mini 3 Pro – $750/$900
Get the $900 one, it is REALLY worth having a dedicated smart remote especially for this little extra.
1/1.3 inch sensor, 4K footage, vertical filming, 12 megapixel RAW photos, quietest drone so far, looks like a bug flying. Such a crazy fun experience, incredible data. They’ve made the footage look like it came from a bigger drone. Activetrack to follow you around if you care about that.
I’ve got a review on this drone already.
LOVE this thing.

Air 2S – $1000
Pay more for the Fly More kit though, you want the batteries and ND filters:
5.4K footage, 1 inch sensor and REALLY bang for your buck at $1000, such a good deal. 60fps if you care (I don’t) and competes with the mavic 2 pro image. Most people in the Mini 3 Pro crowd who care a little more about quality (professionals) choose this drone.

Mavic 2 Pro – $1000 Used
King of drones up until last year. 1 inch sensor, 20 megapixel RAW photos. The holy grail, still worth it.

Autel Evo II 6K – $1100 Used
6K 1 inch sensor, 20 megapixel photos. Flies funny, default picture is weird. Have to tweak it in editing but then it is great.
I’d pick a mavic 2 pro used anyday

Mavic 3 – $2150/$2850
Get the normal version not the $5000 Cine version if you don’t know what Prores format is.
There is no going back after having this drone. Unbelievable dynamic range. UNREAL stability, color, control. When it launched it was janky, but they fixed everything with firmware updates. A 7x zoom lens as a second option. Everything I have filmed has looked much better than i was anticipating while shooting.
This is for professional who want to knock anything out of the park, no limits honestly.

DJI Mini 4 – No, don’t even start asking.

Inspire 2 + X5S camera – $8000+ Used
Shoots 6K RAW Video (literally filming in RAW photos)
5.2K 422 Prores and 4K Proress 4444 incase you know what that all means. Its an insanely high quality image that is mega flexible for color grading and so enjoyable just to watch ungraded b-roll with it, but man is it a pain in the butt to get out, lug around, deal with the attention and the noise it has. It’s more like a once in a while, Ace in the hole to blow something out the water or shoot Stock Footage and practice cinematography. Interchangeable lenses are really nice too.

I have other videos on making money, go watch those if you need.
If you want the fastest way to get better footage, watch the Cinematography one, trust me it is very necessary.

    Awesome video. ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ‘

  2. Spootyskater on July 2, 2022 at 7:22 pm

I also have an AT 2020 and I agree, it flies horribly

  3. tenphan0n0 on July 2, 2022 at 7:25 pm

Have you tried calibrating the AT2020? Mine didn’t come factory calibrated out of the box, but after calibration I’m getting 4 hours of flight time.

  4. Beardie FPV on July 2, 2022 at 7:30 pm

I love the fact that you are so straight forward with these kinds of videos, and your not trying to push the most expensive drone on anyone.. I still use my MP1 for my business and works great.. I know it’s limitations and I stay within those. Great video sir!

  5. Gary Adams on July 2, 2022 at 7:31 pm

Correction: Air2s does have a smart controller option.

Currently $1500 for the drone plus fly more pack plus original v1 smart controller.

Big fan of your videos and this is no exception. You get to the point and deliver the information people need to hear. Your tutorials are top notch, too!

  9. Zac Johnson on July 2, 2022 at 7:36 pm

For the price of (a used one, which there are a lot of) the mavic 2 pro, the image still looks amazing in 2022, much better than the air 2s in my opinion. But I had the air 2s for about 6 months, sold it out of frustration due to the image not being up to what I was aiming for… wasn’t even sure what the issue was, just in my mind "it didn’t look very good", except in perfect lighting situations. It’s that wide angle view I don’t like I realised. 5.4k is also much harder to edit than 4k unless you have a beast of a computer (you can use proxies in premiere though)…. and the APAS doesn’t work properly in 5.4k.
But fast forward and here I am thinking I’ll still get another air 2s and try again. It is so light and nible, super stable, really easy to use (apart from getting the exposure spot on) and reliable, never showed a single issue…. even flying in the rain! (don’t do it). Quite fast too especially ascending and descending.
I want to see if the air 2s in 4k 2x zoom will give a similar image to the m2p 4k hq mode.

Your perspective on this industry and the tools used for it is spot on. You give honest practical advice with a dose of humor, thank you. I have taken your photo and video courses and my life is forever changed, my office is now a golf cart or RV and I’m making more $ than when I lived a life of stressful workaholism. If your ever in DC I would love to buy you a beer. Cheers.

I have Evo 2 pro it was my first drone. I just fly it for fun in my backyard. My wife has no idea I paid over 2k for bundle. Think about get mavic 3 with smart controller.

  17. Harris Entertainment on July 2, 2022 at 7:46 pm

My first drone was the inspire 1 in 2016, then the inspire 1 pro last year with the X5 camera and a few interchangeable lenses, but I just wasn’t completely happy with the footage in comparison to the cinema cameras that I usually work with, so I went for the Mavic 3 and I feel it was a worthy upgrade and am super happy with the footage I’m getting now, but yes I agree there’s no such thing as a beginner drone.

  18. Jonas on July 2, 2022 at 7:48 pm

    So no mini se?

  19. Brandon Dejon on July 2, 2022 at 7:49 pm

Another great video! I was able to purchase an Air 2s Fly More Combo Drone with RC Pro Remote back in January. Iโ€™m not sure if they still have it available but just in case I wanted to let everyone know. The RC Pro remote is a game changer!

  20. Parjesh R on July 2, 2022 at 7:50 pm

  21. Alfonso Sanzone on July 2, 2022 at 7:53 pm

Dear Alex, thanks for honest information and plain English. Also, making sure that your voice and tone helps to concentrate in the information you would like to bring us

  22. Building Futures# on July 2, 2022 at 7:53 pm

I still don’t understand why they call drones to helicopters, planes, all are remotely controlled aircraft, I had one of these dangerous toy in the 80’s, it worked the same way and it’s still noisy. Maybe they want to convince the most naive that it’s a new technology, but I’m sorry to disappoint, because it’s been around for over 60 years.

  23. A E on July 2, 2022 at 7:54 pm

No Autel Evo Lite+? It’s more modern than the Evo II Pro you showed, while being a bit lighter, with a 1" sensor, and better performance than the Nano. There are still some quirks in Autel Sky, though.

  24. SAAD HERO on July 2, 2022 at 7:55 pm

    Great video and perfect explaining.
Another point to cover is where you will fly it, I chose the M3 due to wind being harsh here and its bigger engines hold better with intense wind.

  26. Damian Roberts Designs on July 2, 2022 at 7:58 pm

Great explanation for anyone wanting to get into the world of drones but also a reminder to us drone owners that we donโ€™t have to buy the higher priced drones if what we have gets the job done.

  27. Zac Johnson on July 2, 2022 at 7:59 pm

  30. Lon Denard on July 2, 2022 at 8:02 pm

It’s official, we’re cousins now! Only one caveat, the Air2s can be purchased with the Smart Controller, $1500 and soon it’ll be compatible with the RM330 (DJI RC).

  41. Chris Endres on July 2, 2022 at 8:10 pm

you are hilarious and I love your videos! last shot on the descending Inspire you are out of frame making it look like you ran in fear… looks on your face = priceless! ๐Ÿ™‚

  42. The Werewolf on July 2, 2022 at 8:10 pm

Dude, seriously, I have to be the crankiest YT viewer on the planet. Most drone advice or news videos p*ss me off royally because either they’re SO padded with junk to fill runtime, or are 100% focused on commercial US or UK 250g+ drone use (see: snoody)…
But your videos are just freaking brilliant!
Fast. To the point. FUNNY. And totally relatable. Your advice for the beginner drone op (basically, chill man, the FAA are not coming to take away your stuff and the birds are not out to kill your drone – mostly) literally hit every single anxiety I have even after flying for almost two years. I could tell you knew what it’s like.
Simply.. bravo, sir. Magnificent stuff. I wish the other YT videobloggers were half as professional and had their act together as well as you.
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos.

This was outstanding! I was curious about drones so I spent $100 on a Holystone. No GPS and a terrible camera, but I learned how to fly. Didn’t take long to get bored with flying around in circles, though. Then my neighbor was given a Mini SE for Christmas by his daughter. I’m his "IT Department" as far as help with computers and phones, so he called me to ask if I could help him get it going. (His daughter tried but failed. Didn’t take me long to realize that his phone case was preventing the controller cable from plugging in all the way.) I was very impressed with it and decided this was something I needed to look into. As soon as I saw the Mini 2 with RAW capability and 4K video I was sure that was what I needed as a "starter" drone. I’ve been extremely happy with it. I have literally decades of experience with film and digital photography and I’ve been using Lightroom since version 3, but have never done video. I’m really enjoying learning something new and, to paraphrase something you said, "nothing beats going to a familiar place and seeing it from a new perspective." The 4K video is just awesome. If I continue my interest I’m sure I’ll want something with a larger sensor eventually, and if not, I’ll be happy with this one for a long time.

4:42 am i tripping? or did a bird just walk in across your living room floor lmao

  46. Thomas David Media on July 2, 2022 at 8:13 pm

Love your videos and explanations. I’ve had a couple of drones for the past 4 years and my footage isn’t as sharp or detailed as yours. Your videos inspire me to be better and help me decide on my next purchase. Just a question, is that your bird wandering around the floor at 4:44? lol. You’re also crazy for flying indoors ESPECIALLY with the Inspire, gave me a good laugh though

  47. Zack Harris on July 2, 2022 at 8:14 pm

i enjoy the shirt continuity between two clearly diff shoots

  48. Laurence Sweeney on July 2, 2022 at 8:16 pm

Great info as always. I’m sure others will have commented but my Air 2s does have a smart controller, it is so much better than connecting via phone. I’ve had Mavic Pro and a Mini, but the Air 2s with the Controller is a more enjoyable experience.
