If you’re on a mega-budget, I should make an honorary mention to the good old Phantom 3 Standard. Shoots 2.7k on a 1/2.3″ sensor but shoots 12 megapixel RAW photos just like the bigger models. Its really capable and cheap as crap now because its old, should be able to find it used on Craigslist, Ebay, Facebook Marketplace, Offerup for like $250 or lower.

Mavic Mini – $400
2.7k and JPEG only but only $400 and can live in your pocket

Mavic Air 2 – $800
4K 1/2 inch sensor and REALLY bang for your buck at $800, such a good deal. 60fps as well.

Mavic 2 Pro – $1500
4K 1 inch sensor, 20 megapixel RAW photos. The holy grail, still worth it. Still worth just getting and not worth waiting on some Mavic 3 that’s ‘coming anyday’ just like the last 2 years, seriously.

Autel Evo II 6K – $1800 [NOT the 8K version please]
6K 1 inch sensor, 20 megapixel photos. More like 4K-equivalent really. Kind of weird, just got it so still testing but when you get over the odd stuff it has a GREAT picture, maybe on par with the Mavic 2 Pro, but not as intuitive, easy to fly, cool to show all the dads on the beach, or as feature rich. I’ll do a review later but so far has helped me pick up exactly 0 step-moms.

Inspire 2 + X5S camera – $8000+ Used
Shoots 5.2K RAW Video (literally filming in RAW photos)
5.2K 422 Prores and 4K Proress 4444 incase you know what that all means. Its an insanely high quality image that is mega flexible and so enjoyable just to watch ungraded b-roll with it, but man is it a pain in the butt to get out, lug around, deal with the attention and the noise it has. It’s more like a once in a while, Ace in the hole to blow something out the water or shoot Stock Footage and practice cinematography. Interchangeable lenses are really nice too.

As an added attraction could you possibly name the places where you shoot? Very nice videos. Thank you for you most valuable time spent explaining your experiences. We are the students and you are a very good teacher.

You just got yourself a new sub my friend. Thank you for your insight. Like many people here, I am new to the drone world. For Christmas 2020 I purchased a Mavic air 2 with the fly more package for my son. He’s not a kid; he’s in his 20’s. Problem is like many new drone pilots, he did limited reading (to be fair we lost our power during a winter storm and he had no access to the web) so he set up the drone and on its maiden voyage down it went with a broken left rear arm. The settings were set wrong unfortunately. Now it is going to take $250.00 and a few weeks to get it repaired. The problem with DJI is that they do provide a beginner mode but honestly the drone and controller should both have a beginner button that you press out of the box that gets you up and flying. Consider this process training wheels for the sky. Once the initial excitement wears off, then the owner can begin to try out all the features and grow with their drone. I would expect this for $1,100. Also customer support was not at all inspiring to deal with. You can only hear "I’m Sorry" just so many times before you want to hang up on them and toss out the drone. The support team sound like robots and need to listen better to questions rather than speaking over their customers. They do not accept constructive criticism well and for some reason would prefer that you write to corporate with your questions rather than bringing up customer questions in weekly team meetings that could help the company to be more successful and treat its customer base better. Here is an example of what I mean. DJI has certain protocols for establishing their “Care Refresh” program. I completely understand how the program works for registering a new drone out of the box. During repair however, this was my suggestion to them. When a drone goes in for repair work, they should automatically offer the consumer the opportunity to purchase the package once all warranty work has been performed and paid for. This is an excellent revenue stream for DJI. Since the drones have already been re-certified before they leave the DJI repair facility, the drones can be cataloged and returned to their owners 100% certified for the program. Trying to explain this (30 minutes on the phone with customer care) was a painful experience so YES I am writing to corporate headquarters in the hope that someone at DJI will understand this. Letters often sent to CEO’s get the best results. I hope my letter in some way helps future consumers so they do not suffer the same frustrations as I have. Again, thanks for your video, the Mavic Air 2 is a very nice drone and I do NOT blame the drone for my misfortune but DJI can build a better mouse trap with one simple hardware and software change and it should not add much to the overall cost of the drone and should save new drone pilots many headaches. Happy New Year!

Me too! Awesome tutorial and videos. Anybody who shoots this down is just stupid or jealous, or both. Kudos

This is the best looking YouTube video I’ve ever seen. What you do with those photos are magic. Keep up the great work.

  6. Alejandro Teteria on January 15, 2021 at 11:12 pm

Do you have to have internet connection to make the drone work?? Meaning say i go out to the middle of the woods where there is no cell signal, will my drone still operate and come back to me if it loses battery???

  7. Ray Bin on January 15, 2021 at 11:14 pm

Do all drones fly the same? Or do some have better flying capabilities? These videos all focus on cameras…nothing on flying control /quality.

  8. Mark Jones on January 15, 2021 at 11:14 pm

The cheap ones only go hundreds of feet in the air. Well that is just completely unacceptable. (Eye Roll)

I have actually owned many of these drones and got out this for awhile. This guide put a lot of information together from a lot of experience in a very understandable and useful way. Thank you for this. I’m just waiting for enough funds to get a M2Pro again. Stimulus check wouldn’t hurt.

  12. Harley Lindquist on January 15, 2021 at 11:19 pm

Keep in mind that if u buy anything bigger than the mavic mini you have to register ur drone with the goverment

  13. R King on January 15, 2021 at 11:19 pm

It sounds like you work for DJI. The Autel EVO II is a better drone hands down. 6K, 8X zoom, more stable, less flight limits, and longer run time.

  14. eric espinal on January 15, 2021 at 11:23 pm

Hey please respond what landing gear do you have on the mavic 2

  15. Antonio Cavalli on January 15, 2021 at 11:24 pm

Nice video buuut … I would love to find some drone reviews that DON’T focus so much on the video/picture taking features. I like flying drones because I like FLYING drones. I care much more about its flying capabilities than how well it take 4k video. (like my cell phone – I care much more about the quality of my phone calls than how well it takes pictures). Got any suggestions?

Just wanna say, fpv drones, especially racing drones, are not that expensive if you have access to the parts, they do not cost "$1000" you can build a racing drone that goes 60mph for $150 not including remote and goggles

  23. TenThumbs Productions on January 15, 2021 at 11:33 pm

I appreciate the professionalism… and the "it looks like balls" relaxed vibe hahaha

    Great informative video. Appreciate it!

  27. Tomaso Hopkins on January 15, 2021 at 11:39 pm

Great job dude. You Looked at them all. Compared each fairly by relating to the sensor size. You laid it all on the line. I like a reviewer that knows his shit and is not afraid to tell it like it is. You have done both. I would like to hear your review replacing the Mini with the New Mini 2. Some major improvements. It’s no longer the wannabe drone and has earned its seat at the professional table. Now, Mini 2 will handle Level 5 winds, Shoots in 4K, 30fps. It is pretty much utilizing all things Air 2. What are your impressions? One more thing, I have the Evo 2, 6K and for me, it’s the Go-To drone for cinematic $$. 10 Bit color, H.264 &H.265 (you choose) 360-degree obstacle avoidance. jpg/RAW, films in log. You’ve had your Evo 6K for 4 more months and have obviously gotten into it, now what are your thoughts? Update this video. Cut and paste.

Mavic 3 needs to drop already! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 That footage at 3:33 is 🍒🍒🍒🍒🍒 Did you say it looks like balls?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Just curious how long does it take you to make a video like this from start to finish? So good man thank you. 🤙🏾🤙🏾

Drone shopping and looking for tips, thanks for the informative video.

  33. Ben Clark on January 15, 2021 at 11:46 pm

Was fast forwarding to see the footage of each and let play then heard "it looks like balls." That, sir, made my day. I had to go back to see what exactly you were referring to. As a Mavic Mini owner, I concur with your description completely. The accuracy of the statement could not be put more eloquently. Bravo. If you ever upgrade your EVO II to the dual version, I would love to see your analysis vs. Mavic 2 Enterprise with FLIR.

    Thanks great video, great job!!

  35. Drone Guy on January 15, 2021 at 11:47 pm

I feel like if you’re interested, you should get a toy like the tello first so you can learn and then get decent and get a bigger drone when you’re ready. That’s what I did.
