UDI Quadcopter Motor & Gears Disassembly – U818A DroneTube

Repair your Quadcopter UDI U818A, A-1 Discovery and U817. I explain how the motor and gears are assembled and disassembled in the arm and why its easier to replace the entire arm assembly instead of just replacing a bad motor.

Here is a link to the video showing you how to replace the entire arm and motor assembly. This way there is no soldering involved! The procedure is the same for clockwise or anticlockwise arms. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fYNdIUskFk

This video helped me replace the defective motor in my U818A-1 quad!! I was unsure about how to remove the housing at the end of the leg but once I watched this I was able to proceed with confidence that I wouldn’t break it. I swapped out the motors like a pro! It’s flying a lot better but clearly the bearings on the large gear are sticky, so I’ll have to replace either those or the whole arm at some point. Anyways, TYVM for the most instructional video, it was exactly what I was looking for 😀

Great! Thanks for making the video on the motor assembly.

Thank you very much or your video, it really helped me a lot. I crashed many times my u818 and now the left front motor (white prop) does not spin. I carefully removed the arm and looked at the wiring and realized the problem was the motor. Do you think it will be better to replace all 4 motors or just the broken one? I ordered the two front cc and ccw motor only and I am afraid i need them all. I ordered these http://www.ebay.com/itm/401055107622?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&var=670609817067&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT. Great video, i subscribed.

I just got my discovery U818A. I am trying to get off the plastic cover on it. I unscrewed the 4 screws on the landing gear but the landing gear and motor are still solid in place. I don’t want to break it but how do you remove those so I can remove the plastic to work on the inside. (I have to replace the motor and stem.

Hello Sir drone fan nib wt tell name

  11. Mississippi Slim on July 19, 2020 at 7:22 am

There is apparently to different versions of the U818a.  The battery voltages appear to be different.  The original version with the 2 wire RED connector is 3.5vdc,  the newer version with the 4 pin white connector is 7vdc.  I ordered replacement motors for a U818A and they go up in smoke after a single flight.  Do you know of a different part that is available for the U818A-1 Discovery FPV.

  20. Brian Windle on July 19, 2020 at 7:38 am

If you have burned up a motor, take a look at your board and/or plug one of the other motors into that socket first to see if you burned up the board too. Someone else commented about their rotor spinning constantly after replacement and I have the same issue (new motor spins as soon as you put the battery in, doesn’t respond to throttle). After verifying the new motor worked properly by plugging into a different socket I took a look at the board to find that a rectangular chip next to the socket (stamped 2300 on top, there is one for each motor) had burned up as well. Wish I would have checked this out before ordering a new motor! Haven’t been able to locate a replacement chip and doubtful I would even be able to solder it in properly. Can’t find a replacement board for this FPV/wifi version either. Total bummer.

This is the only 7.4v Micro Motor I was able to locate.  For reference the core resistance for the 3.7v motors is about 1ohm the 7.4v is about 2ohm.http://www.ebay.com/itm/2pcs-DC-7-4V-35000RPM-Electric-Micro-Coreless-Motor-6x14mm-for-RC-Helicopter-/231798034600?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368
