TU Delft – Ambulance Drone

TU Delft – Ambulance Drone

Each year nearly a million people in Europe suffer from a cardiac arrest. A mere 8% survives due to slow response times of emergency services. The ambulance-drone is capable of saving lives with an integrated defibrillator. The goal is to improve existing emergency infrastructure with a network of drones. This new type of drones can go over 100 km/h and reaches its destination within 1 minute, which increases chance of survival from 8% to 80%! This drone folds up and becomes a toolbox for all kind of emergency supplies. Future implementations will also serve other use cases such as drowning, diabetes, respiratory issues and traumas.

Corrective Statement to the video: One should never leave the patient alone and always start performing CPR first. Please send out a bystander to retrieve an AED or Ambulance Drone in case of Cardiac Arrest.

The operator would obviously ask if anybody else was with her, because whilst she’s getting the drone, somebody must perform CPR, so that blood can still be circulated around her Father’s body, whilst she goes to get the medical drone, which has the defibrillator.

Great concept! My first reaction to the video was, why is no-one doing CPR. It is essential when the seconds count, I really wish the video would also show this.

0:09 you wouldn’t need pads for a heart attack you need it for cardiac arrest.

beautiful drone . If I were there I would pretend to be sick to get one of these for free. I would change the receiver and use my Ebay transmitter. I hope they send a blue one, yellow is not my favourite

    Neat concept but not practical.
    1. Not everyone (although they should be) is CPR/AED trained and certified and would likely waste time in pad placement.
    2. Theres AEDs on almost every corner in most public spaces.
    3. "Cut ambulance response time" isnt true at all, you just gave them an AED.

This idea would be great for small, rural areas where response times can be upwards of 20 minutes, but is hugely impractical in most cases.
