Top 6 Drone Business Ideas for 2020 | Mr MPW

What are the 6 best drone Business Ideas and Opportunities, as we move forward from 2019 into 2020?

We’ve taken the data from everyone who’s attended our ICARUS Permission for Commercial Operation ( PfCO ) course over the last 18 months, combined that with our industry knowledge and are bringing you the top 6 ideas for starting a drone business!

First of all – it’s worth prefacing this entire blog with the fact that adding a drone into an existing business is going to be the best thing to do. If you want to get a drone, get a ‘drone licence’, set-up a website and expect the business to start rolling in… I’d honestly say forget it. The market is full of people trying to do this at the moment… So, it’s a case of either adding it in to your current offering, working out how you can solve a problem for someone by using a drone OR, if you’re lucky enough to have some contacts in an industry who are using (or looking to use) drones – then leverage that to the MAX!

So, with that said; what are the 6 best Business Ideas and opportunities for getting your start in the Drone Business?

1) A Media and/or Production Company
2) Surveying, Modelling and 3D Mapping
3) Roofing Or Structural Surveys
4) Thermal Inspections
5) Wedding Photography
6) Drone Training

Great helpful video Matt. I have just started a virtual tour business (casual), and already I’ve had people ask me can I do some aerial footage for them. I’ve explained that I need a PfCO first in order to do it. I’ve been flying as a hobby since 2016 and gone from GPS camera drones to fpv racing quads- obviously the later for fun! So back to using my drones in my business, I have the dji Mavic Pro and is this a great drone to start with, and where do I start in your opinion? Just subscribed to your channel, love what I’m seeing at the moment. Cheers George.

Thanks Matt, great video. So would you advise against someone setting up a drone business without significant prior experience in any of the fields mentioned, even with modest expectations in terms of earning potential?

Here we go again, THE FAA RESTRICTS HOBBY DRONE FLYING ,this looks like something crying chuck and adam shifty and obumma conspired on. How can we benefit from this ? You say it will stop dangerous usage of drones =HAH , BAH HUMBUG Just like more restrictions on firearms and trying to eliminate the Second Amendment . None of this has deterred gun violence . Look at Chicago and New York , some of the most stringent gun laws anywhere, and yet they have the highest shooting victims anywhere. The old adage ‘ WHEN GUNS ARE OUTLAWED ONLY OUTLAWS WILL HAVE GUNS" apply here also. More BS from the bogus bunglers, the do nothing but hunt crap to stir legislators. If a criminal/terrorist wants to use a UAV to deliver a strike , these restrictions DO NOT APPLY. You people in Washington need to remove your cranium from your anal cavity and try to do something worth while. Try listing to the common person, the ones who go to work everyday , come home and take care of their families and contribute to the community and our Great Country. This is a recreation that we enjoy, why try to take this from us ?. Leave this alone it will get you voted out of office. GET INVOLVED CONTACT YOUR STATE LEGISLATOR HERE=United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121. A switchboard operator will connect you directly with the Senate office you request. TELL THEM TO USE ARTICLE " V " OF THE CONSTITUTION TO STOP THIS OVERREACH OF POWER. https://www.faa.gov/uas/

Good one Matt. This is one of the best you have done. Good, realistic advice. I wonder how many of the 10,000+ people who have taken their PfCO wish they had seen this first?

I am in the process of getting my real estate license and had the idea of offering free drone video for my listings. Which drone do you recommend for this?

Hey Matt, Needed sincere advice. I have taken some basic training on the drone flying, but i am more inclined toward the processing part of the business. I feel my i can build more strength on the analysis of the data and the presentation part of it. Pl advice whats the best way to start. Have watching some webinars on drone deploy, but wanted to know if i can learn on the go or need to take a full time course from drone deploy or any one else. Pl suggest!!!. Many thanks

This was very helpful as I’m trying to figure out my space in the drone community after moving to the UK last month.
Can’t wait for my theory with you in November! 😀

Great advice. For several years I have been talking to companies about how they can use drones within their business. I always start with the the fact that they are a tool to do what you usually do more efficiently. No one knocks on your door and announces they are a hammer company – what do you want me to hit? They call themselves panel beaters, carpenters, landscape gardeners. Be known as the person who provides an excellent service and to do so you are able to use a drone.

Thank you for the video! Great advice. I would like to give you a small piece of advice in return. Add overlay drone shots as you are talking, this would greatly increase the quality of your videos resulting in a better viewing experience.

Hi Matt really helpfull video. but I have offered my services to the emergency services. but they aren’t interested in outsider’s helping instead they train there own staff and rather keep it “in house” this is the problem. also established photographers are doing same rather than hiring someone they just do the training and then add this service to their already established client base. and it’s destroying any chance for anyone starting out.

I am a Brit living in Spain 🇪🇸 and need a drone for low speed but must be good photo and video capture. This will be used on my YouTube channel. One big problem I have never flown a drone. What would you recommend. Thanks Barry
