There seems to be very little difference between the 2mp and the 5mp versions of the xs812 GPS.
While editing the video clips, both videos from both camera modules were recognized as 720p quality by the editing software.
A 2:40 video clip on the 2mp is 80.6mb and a 2:45 video clip on the 5mp is 82.1mb so the size of the file is just about the same.

Nice to see a review of the camera, and not just all the other features like most drone reviews…thx!

  2. DeadlyDiddly on September 24, 2020 at 11:22 am

Interesting! I don’t think you buy one of these for the camera, but at the same time you always want the best camera you can get on a quad. Not sure it’s worth the $9 difference though – that’s at least a couple more batteries.

  4. Tim Robinson on September 24, 2020 at 11:24 am

I wouldn’t buy this quad copter honestly, but it’s great that you do a comparison for those people who would buy one. I call that pleasing ALL ( or as much as you can) of your audience….. for which I give you kudos 🙂 Keep up the great work Pete: Thumbs skyward 👍👍👍

  5. Karl Dunn on September 24, 2020 at 11:25 am

Way too much jelly, couldn’t even finish the video, making me dizzy and that’s the first time that’s ever happened and said on feedback. I’m sure it’s a good drone gps and flight wise, but they would definitely have to add some kind of camera stabilisation. Just my honest opinion.

  6. didactylos4 diddy4 on September 24, 2020 at 11:26 am

TBH I don’t see sufficient difference in aerial or ground-based videos to warrant spending the extra $9 but as it is only $9 it really doesn’t make that much difference in cost either.
I’m not even sure of the value of GPS on such a light quad but I guess it will be a "safety blanket" option for some.

  7. shapshap on September 24, 2020 at 11:30 am

I dont think for fpv use the 5mp is worth it.

  8. Stephane f on September 24, 2020 at 11:30 am

I don’t get why there is any Camara’s below 1080 with some sort of stabilization it’s simply unwatchable what century is this have I missed something?

  9. James Turner on September 24, 2020 at 11:31 am

I really think they’ve sent you another 720p. the file size should be way bigger. the difference is negligible just looks like focus is out on one a tad. There’s a guy on here with some 1080p video from the same drone and it’s soo much clearer.

  10. BrooklandBackyardBrewery Pete on September 24, 2020 at 11:31 am

Did you record the video on the phone or the sd card?

  11. Tom Bettencourt on September 24, 2020 at 11:32 am

So, are there two models (or more): 720p with 2 MP, and 1080 with 5 MP? Or is there a 1080p with a 2 MP camera? Gearbest describes its model choices as 720 or 1080 and Banggood describes its model as 2 Mp or 5 MP. (I get the creator’s point that there is no difference between the 2 and 5 MP in picture quality.

  12. SecondLifeDesigner on September 24, 2020 at 11:33 am

Try pressing the record button on the controller instead of the App on the phone. I have a feeling it may be recording in a lower resolution because is sending the video feed to be recorded on your phone. If I remember right when you press the record button on the app it is saved in two places. One on the SD Card and one on the phone itself. Since the camera probably can’t send two different resolutions at the same time it has to send the lower one that your phone app can handle.

  14. V-DRONE on September 24, 2020 at 11:41 am

You know some hack about 200m limitation?

  15. Maxim Dubois on September 24, 2020 at 11:44 am

    For me 5MP is better

  16. David Mattison on September 24, 2020 at 11:44 am

I find the visuo drones great fun to fly – but the cameras are so crap. Marketing that as 1080p – or even 720p is just wrong.

  17. GrampaKenCanada on September 24, 2020 at 11:45 am

For me overall the 2 meg was better. The 4meg seemed to blur at times as if it couldn’t keep up. Happy Flying

  18. Draymond Crawford on September 24, 2020 at 11:47 am

The problem is the wide angle lens, to much light being let in. if you put a hood over the lens you would get more contrast and richer colors.

  19. Rc Cars and Airplanes on September 24, 2020 at 11:47 am

    HELLO, Very Nice video (subscribed)’

  20. Mixo on September 24, 2020 at 11:48 am

is it possible to fly this without a phone? when you dont feel like going FPV 🙂

  21. Mike Cardillo on September 24, 2020 at 11:49 am

Not much better then the 2 mp camera but that is still cheap if you are only using them for fun.

  22. Mr Buck on September 24, 2020 at 11:49 am

    Is’t better range than tello?

  23. Dawn of Justice on September 24, 2020 at 11:49 am

On my phone, the video of the 5mp is a little bit better in quality but it’s also more blurry.
They need to make it more stable i would say.

In the images, the difference is much more clear. wow

  24. antonije1979 on September 24, 2020 at 11:49 am

    I need some help.
I bought this drone (4K version), and for a few days everything seem to working well (ok, camera is of very low quality, but never mind), and suddnely picture turned upside down, for 180 degrees…I tried everything, even opened camera and try to move conectors a little bid, but is still the same…Is that some software bug, do anybody have some expirience like this?
Also, the camera module is very hot (what is maybe normal, becuse of GPS connection), but it almost smels like melted plastic…
Thanks for any kind of help.

  25. Neo_182 on September 24, 2020 at 11:50 am

Thanks for the comparison man. Honestly both are terrible LOL.

  26. Eddie Davis on September 24, 2020 at 11:51 am

Good comparison, I don’t get why they made 2 versions that are practically the same. Why not a 720p version and a 1080p version? Anyway I wouldn’t buy a toy quad for the camera anyway, I’d buy it because it’s fun to fly.

  27. Anonymous on September 24, 2020 at 11:52 am

I would never buy something this low quality for anything over $15. Sorry china. try harder

  28. W.G. Brown on September 24, 2020 at 11:52 am

Thanks again sir, great stuff !!

  29. simon simon on September 24, 2020 at 11:52 am

not too bad for a toy grade quad video.

  30. Predator on September 24, 2020 at 11:57 am

Hi thank you for the great review I was wondering if I can fly this drone using GPS future only without connecting to the app at all that’s mean no phone attached to the controller especially when I’m traveling I have no internet connection
    Thank you

  31. Michael Hodgson on September 24, 2020 at 11:58 am

Nice presentation and comparison. Maybe I missed something. Were the videos and photos coming from the phone (i.e. wireless transmitted) or were they pulled from the SD card?

  32. Steve Phillips on September 24, 2020 at 12:00 pm

Problem I can get photos and videos to load on IPhone but nothing on SD card.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Otherwise drone flies well and everything else works great.

  33. ONCLEFLY on September 24, 2020 at 12:00 pm

Hi, good comparaison thank you, for me the 5Mp is better, but I don’t buy this quad more yellow effect. 😉

  34. Deja Does Negril on September 24, 2020 at 12:02 pm

Are you recording to the sd card? Or from the app?

  35. James Turner on September 24, 2020 at 12:03 pm

So I got this quad and can’t get my phone to find the WiFi. Its works with my 5g home router and not this. It also works on my missis I-phone. My note 3 is on android 5 I’m wondering if it needs a newer version of android? Any help please

  36. Thundertef on September 24, 2020 at 12:03 pm

I can’t understand people complaining about quality…What do you expect for the price?…Just think of what you would get for a drone for this money 20 years ago. I think its amazing what $100 can buy you today for a drone.

  37. Midnight Mike on September 24, 2020 at 12:05 pm

If they wants to compete with DJI Spark or Air, they need to change the lens to same FOV.

  38. vasudev parab on September 24, 2020 at 12:06 pm

Sir i see your all video. All vidoe is vey nice.sir i am from indian so, how can i get this visuo drone. I want 5 megapixel x812 with search light please help me

  39. Adam Lokiec on September 24, 2020 at 12:08 pm

480p and 720p – only this resolutions are send to phone. The real resolution are saved ONLY on SD card on drone. So, this film (comparison) is fake, because in setting of the software you can choose only 480p or 720p – and this resolutions the author got in his films. (I do not have this drone, but see on other reviews – and you will see the truth)

  40. Todd Simmons on September 24, 2020 at 12:10 pm

    Thanks for the vedio!!

  41. chris on September 24, 2020 at 12:11 pm

Not a significant difference, and even with 5Mp the image sharpness, clarity, and the hole feeling, is that is at 480p and that is some kind of interpolation that gives 1080p. Anyway, for that price is a generally acceptable camera. Maybe in the feature there will be an upgraded module with better quality.

  42. BIG DRONE FLYER77 R/C on September 24, 2020 at 12:12 pm

I sure enjoyed this drone, it is one of my favorite toy drones. I had no break ups with the WiFi with my 2mp version on my iPhone. Great quad. Great video Pete

  46. paulie lie_fpv on September 24, 2020 at 12:16 pm

Nice comparison man now we really see the difference and witch one to buy thanks 👍cheers 🍻

  47. NCShooter on September 24, 2020 at 12:18 pm

Can you possibly pop the covers off both cameras and get a shot of the internals? I think there are several 1080p versions being sent out with 720 guts in them. Also, there was chatter around the UI from the wifi panel forcing the resolution down to 720 when accessed — does it actually list 1080 as an option (when recording to the SD)?

  48. TheGusK on September 24, 2020 at 12:18 pm

That your phone says they are both 720p is not relevant when discussing quality. How do the bitrates and file size compare? I watch the Bears on Fox channel 32 in Chicago. They broadcast in 720p and it looks great.
