The USAF's new stealth drone changes everything

The US Air Force’s top-secret unmanned Arial vehicle has successfully completed its first test flight.

The XQ58-A Valkyrie represents a new era of UAVs called ‘Loyal Wingman’

These aircraft are not only limited to previous generation’s capabilities such as recognisance and air-to-ground strikes [explosion] The ‘Loyal Wingman’ drones are designed to accompany a piloted jet into combat

This allows pilots to use the drone to safely scout enemy positions, carry larger payloads or even absorb incoming fire fire.

The Valkyrie also is kitted out with a jet engine, unlike it’s propeller-powered predecessor: the General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper. This means the Valkyrie can fly at an astonishing 625 mph (1,059 kph); with a maximum range estimated at nearly two and a half thousand miles – double the distance of the mq-9

  3. David on September 4, 2020 at 10:57 am

Great concept but what wasn’t included was the cost. It’s only a viable option when facing a fairly high tech adversary if they can keep the cost down.

Hold up. If the reaper is propeller driven it’s invisible to infrared missiles. If you coated it for stealth. It’s invisible against radar guided missiles……Se where I’m goin at?

  20. trankt54155 on September 4, 2020 at 11:17 am

The Tomahawk missile has morphed into this UCAV—similar cost (1-2 million), twice the range (2000+miles), and can carry 4 small diameter bombs to hit 4 different targets. The plus is, it can return and reuse again if it is not on a suicide mission.
