The Best Drone for 2021? The new EASA (UK and Europe) Drone Regulations and the legacy DJI Mini 2

The Best #Drone for 2021? The new EASA (UK and Europe) Drone Regulations and the legacy DJI Mini 2.

I discuss why the the DJI Mavic Mini 2 Drone is the best consumer drone available from 31st December 2020 under the new EASA drone regulation framework. The DJI Mavic Mini 2 is the legacy drone you can fly almost anywhere with little regulatory restrictions.

The video discusses the new EASA drone regulations focusing on the sub 250 gram legacy category and why the 250g legacy category is critical moving forward.I clarify why the mini 2 is the best consumer drone available and why it will remain the best even as technology evolves due to the new drone categorisation and certification scheme which mandates design and performance limitations on future drones.

I answer some common drone questions-
Can you fly at night?
Do you need insurance?
Do I have to comply with GDPR?
Drones and Privacy?

DJI mini 2 is the best drone for use in the UK now and beyond 2021!!!

Nice shots of the Millenium Quay tehre and The Worm at the end. I gave my grandson my old Mavic Mini for Christmas. I’ll bide my time for the moment and keep flying the Air 2, but I’ll be on the lookout for used Mini 2’s during January. I find that if its anywhere over 200 meters it’s difficult to see and if you take your eyes off it to check the screen it’s very difficult to reacquire visually. Might invest in something like this

This is without doubt the clearest explanation and I have seen about the up and coming changes, I finally understand key implications of buying a sub 500g drone such as the Parrot Anafi and/or if I was to buy a current heavier drone such as a Mavic 2 Pro. It seems to me that whatever the drone flyer’s experience is, they will find a need for a sub 250g drone on foreign trips where they are more likely to be given permission to use a drone. So I think the best plan for anyone new to drones is to invest in a Mini 2 now and wait a while for manufactures to bring out new heavier fully featured drones that comply to the new regulations. I am interested to know if you agree with that strategy? Thanks again for posting this video.

Thanks. But DJI needs to fix the design flaw about the camera in sports mode. This is not acceptable today.

Great explanation, thanks! I was initially really worried that the new European regulations will make it impossible to fly, but I am now thinking that it is not bad at all. I have registered myself as a drone operator and have taken all the available online exams (for A1, A2 and A3), which were actually super easy. It took like 30 minutes to read up on the material and to complete the exams. Limiting my flights to 120 m altitude and 500 m distance with my DJI Mini 2 is not an issue and actually all makes complete sense. So I am pretty pleased!

I was thinking of getting a drone but after learning all these rules and regs, I don’t think I’ll bother. Bloody government always have to spoil things.

Thank you for passing along the facts that you did in this video. Nicely done without a bunch of hype. Just subscribed and looking forward to your future videos, especially your take on the new faa regs just put forth here in the U.S.

Never in my wildest dreams would I give up my Mavic Air 2 for a Mini.

DJI are part of the problem! Way to cosy with regulators

  18. D'oh on October 5, 2021 at 8:48 am

At about 10:15 you recommend switching off /disable the remote ID. Why would you do that ?
Scared of being caught red handed while doing something you shouldnt, or just paranoid about ‘big brother’ ?

All my drones are marked with my phone number and email adress.
