Should I buy a drone with Commercial GPS RTK?

Dave King shows what applications warrant the need for RTK drone technology. Steel City drones steps you through the entire process of what RTK technology is, what are the limitations of the stock GPS system, and why RTK GPS is essential for certain commercial applications.

Several thousand dollars more?!?! Do you even understand the systems youre trying to sell people?? Ok folks, contrary to what this "drone pilot" seems to think, most of what he said about price and capacity to upgrade is ONLY applicable to DJI drones. DJI drones are completely proprietary. That means you cant use any other system interfaces with it. You are limited to only the products DJI offers and quite frankly they are crap. Their firmware is buggy and limited and their security is already under investigation and may soon not be allowed to be used on US or Canadian government projects because of the same security risks presented by Huawei or Tencent. DJI drones are what people buy when they want to spend 3x what a system is really worth in order to save themselves a few weeks of study on the very subject they claim to be experts on. I build my own rigs, I write my own manuals. My hardware is future proof and modular and I can service it in house. Any modules can be added to the system to improve performance or augment its application… It blows my MIND how many people claim to be professionals and it turns out theyve just read the DJI product pages and manuals… The future will not be kind to DJI folks, get out of proprietary technology while you can.

Thank You for you great videos. I have a company that wants to hire me to do construction Mapping. They are wanting me to use a Phantom 4 rtk . Will the RTK Drone still work without the Base Station???? Looks Like I could Save 2K or so.. Thank You

What if the ground station loses GPS and the drone in the air loses GPS too on an autonomous mission?

    Good

  8. Will Streets on September 1, 2022 at 8:31 pm

Can you fly the Phantom 4 RTK in regular GPS mode without the RTK base station like other prosumer DJI drones? In other words, could I buy the Phantom 4 RTK drone, learn to fly it, and then go back later and buy the base station and additional accessories? I’m trying to make the cost gradual instead of $10k all at once.

can you put together a video showing what a new drone business owner will need ? drone type, software for missions and post flight processing ? looking to do volume count for mining and 3d rendering buildings. thanks

You will find that GPS does not use sats because they are fake….GPS means ground position system and radio masts are used

Good information, I just did a short video and flew the Mavic Mini under a steel bridge and lost all GPS function and went to manual mode. I got it back but did not suspect the steel structure would influence the drone as much as it did. Thanks for all your info; JRubin801@gmail.com

Do you have a video that considers PPK solutions?

  13. M B_ on September 1, 2022 at 8:36 pm

Great video, thank you. One question. (…in theory) The transmission range of the MAT 300 is 9.3 miles. Using RTK does the transmission distance decrease or stay the same? For industrial use (in a refinery) 9.3 miles will never come into play but I would like to confirm that data transmission isn’t compromised or limited with RTK.

Can the antennae pods on the m210 work directly with satellites without the ground station or does it have to have a ground station set up

Great video! The Mavic 2 EA that has just been released has the capability to add a RTK module to it, does that module require the base station and if not, how is it better than the same drone without the RTK module?
    Thanks!

Does the new EMLID RS2 Base station, and REACH M2 with multi-band GNSS antenna AND radio link to base station essentially convert a non-RTK drone into an RTK drone?

Ok 2 nights ago I put new props all the way around. I go out side take off hover doing good so I take it straight up 300feet, I did slow spin taking in the the Evening colors.
I start looking thinking that looks I ducked under carport DJI Hit and Hits hard ,If I had not ducked under carport I don’t know if I would be able to be send this message! DJI 6 mouths old ,better cared for then a NEW BORN BABY ABOUT FREAKING KILLED ME AS IT KILLED ITS SELF? IF YOU CAN THINK OF WAYS A GREAT DRONE CAN BECOME A FALLING BRICK I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR IDEAS, THE DRONE HAD BEEN FLYING LIKE NEW FANTASTIC!I HADN’T FLOW IN THE AMOUNT OF TIME IT TOOK FOR PROPS TO SHIP TO ME ! THIS WAS SIMPLY A PROP TEST THEY DIDN’T MAKE IT DO WHAT IT DID BUT I DON’T HAVE A CLUE I STILL CAN’T BELIEVE IT
