RQ-7B Shadow UAV • Battlefield Surveillance & Recon Drone

The RQ-7B Shadow unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is used by the U.S. Army and Marine Corps for surveillance, reconnaissance, target acquisition and battle damage assessment. It is launched from a trailer-mounted pneumatic catapult, and recovered with arresting gear similar to jets on an aircraft carrier. RQ-7B Shadow carries a forward-looking Infrared camera (FLIR), a daytime TV camera with a selectable near-infrared filter, and a laser pointer. The military has been developing an upgraded version of the Shadow capable of deploying a variety of guided munitions, as well as the QuickMEDS system for delivering medical supplies to remote and stranded troops.
