In this video, you’ll learn how to install your props correctly. You’ll identify the top and bottom of the prop, then the leading and trailing edge. Then you’ll find the motor direction and install the correct prop for the direction the motor is spinning.

My video about the advantages of props in vs. out is:

Hello my friend how are you ,,,,,, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to your great channel which really serves the FPV community in a very good way , thanks from the depth of my heart , one consultancy please, I have been flying DJI drones for years and I made great movies and very recently I started the FPV and surely I bought the DRL simulator and started practicing and getting g better every day,,,,,,, I made first real flight and it was really successful,,,,,, but I faced one issue today when I was trying to hover the drone inside home just to improve my skills ,,,, I hovered it great but while I was in the air one of the props exploded and it was broken just alone ,,,,, what could be the technical reason for that from your point t of view ?????

  26. Sir Ahmad Greazy on February 24, 2021 at 11:58 pm

hey man. look. im new to the drone thing.. kinda.. ibought my first camera drone in July 2020…it was a snaptain sc sumtin.. like $50.. i got it to learn the basic mechanics… still got it by the way…2 days later, was ready to get another. this time was a Potensic. paid $200.. week later crashed it never recovered.. immediately purchaased another next day shipping $250. this time it was a JJRC.. This was frickin dope to fly…had it 2 weeks…LITERALLY…..flying at home and a F**##NG OWL swooped it, it came tumbling down instantly and stuck in a high as f*ck tree.. Where it stayed for almost a month by the way..,. but the same day it got assaulted by this monstrous owl, i went back to Amazing Amazon, and purchased a Potensic (Bugz Type) $275. pretty awesome drone by the way.. Now this one i had for about 3 weeks when………smh…. The same culprit struck again on a very nice sunny day..In front of my family and neighbors, i witnessed the deadly fall from the sky, of my beloved Cam Drone. picked it up, IMMIDIATELY went to old reliable Awesome Amazon, and ordered the EXACT SAME drone. of courtse it arrives the next day, and back at it….Now…i still have this drone, but it has underwent some surgery and transplants …if u will.. i kept the old one and used that for parts if i needed them, in which i ultimately did.. my lil doggie (Rio) likes to bark and try to beat my drone upon takeoff all the time.. its his thing.. he tries to watch from the porch and when he hears the beeps, he takes off and tries to get it before i speedily take off, missing him just shy of a feww inches EVERYTIME…….Well………U guessed it..He caught dat ass one day.. and the beloved Potensic speratically tried to take off, flipping and falling with props shredding away and the back right engine burnt out.. So instead of burying it….i salvaged the parts just in case of another assault or homicide by another animal. and it came in handy. So, being already committed by more than a thousand dollars in a month alone on drones, i decided to go up to ther next klevel of FPV QUAD RACERS. now…the first one i purchased was a tinyhawk 2 rtf kit.. i got it for $375..No..NOT from amazon..they didnt have the kit available for the next day…ONLY REASON I DIDNT GET IT FROM THEM. i had that quad for 2 weeks WITHOUT IT EVEN LEAVING THE GROUND.. IT wouldnt fly..respond from transmitter. when it did it did nothing..so i sent it back and got the hubsan bumblebee lookin one. h22d i think.. it was ok, but not the extra lil "umph" i was seeking.. i never got to use the fpv goggles bevause the right motor stopped after 3 days of use…..so, yup i purchased my own seperate goggles… the EACHINE EV100.. THEY ARRIVE TOMMOROW. But i recieved the Mantis 85m with a FLYSKY FS-I6..Thats my starter kit to try and get this rigfht. i love the idea, thought, and visualization of flying quads. its a hobby that i TRULY EWANT TO DO AND tying,m replacing props, or everything other than actually flying and enjoying some genuine good quality fpvFEEL I WILL BENEFIT GREATLY IF I COULD JUST GET THE SHIT RIGHT….IM SORT OF "STREET N*GG*" and have a sketchy past, however i refrained from my old lifestyle year ago and been trying to find a hobby that i could commit to that could hold my interest, thus keeping me planted and NOT go back to doin dumb sh*t…..,..,So with all that said, can anybody help me get NOT discouraged and fly more than i am either fixing, tying, binding, fixing props, or in Betaflight for hours trying to figure sumptin out, so i can enjoy some Genuine, real, quality FPV Quad flying.. Thatas all i wanna do…I dont think itss too much to ask… i have the commitment,. in just dont have the proper guidance or people that know anything around me…So…#1….what quad SHOULD I BE USING besides sum low performance ass quad..#2 i need sum real help in flyin…..#3 how can i lower the speed/throttle to a speed that i can learn better on BetaFlight…#4..Just sum good ole help…i dont wanna stop the hobby with a poor taste in my mouth..
my name is Garrett.. hit me anytime anyone with help.. Thank You Stay Safe, Wear Masks..Save Lives.. Help me F*Lckin fly!…

One important info is missing, or maybe is on another video, but it is _massively_ important to learn about propeller’s hole size and some terminology used to give technical specs about the propeller. Example: I’ve bought some Gemfan 5040 as a spare for a sector5, they seem perfect but they go all the way down until the motor, so when I screw the nut the propeller keeps rotating freely, while if I mount the Ethix S5, which are stopping at the middle of the shaft, they won’t turn once the nut is tight. Basically, the Gemfan are not working with the Sector5 (and I’ve bought like 3 sets of those..), and I’m still trying to figure out what is the information I need to look for to make sure I’m buying compatible props. Note: if you are buying a sector5 on hglrc website BE AWARE they have some "advice" at the bottom of the page to "help the customer". Unfortunately, that thing is advising random things, and I had to argue with their support because they were blaming _me_ I didn’t check if the propeller _they_ advised would actually work with the drone………..

  30. Aaron Blankenship on February 25, 2021 at 12:04 am

Do you have a video covering installing the nut back on the prop correctly? I’m here because my props are slipping despite being as tight as the screw goes. What am i missing?

  32. Peter Ostini on February 25, 2021 at 12:05 am

My motors have colored nuts, I know it signifys either left and right or front and back or diagonally. 2 are black 2 are gold, they are crazqpony dx2205 any idea what orientation these go on? I dont have certain parts yet to test the engine. So hoping to find out by the nut color significance, thank you for any help you can provide!

Hey Joshua I have been watching for almost one year and yes u right is a lot to learn in this hobby and I have to put a lots of attention on all the videos that I watch at the very beginning I thought this was a piece of cake and when I start building my first kwad I was still under the impression that was easy but when I start it running to problems because something wasn’t working I was worry thinking ok I guess is not that easy but now after a year I finally have my first build and I bouth me the Cidora from Iflight and its a great one thanks to ur videos .

  34. Bram Anneveldt on February 25, 2021 at 12:09 am

    Hi @Joshua Bardwell,
I rarely comment on videos. But I just want to say that you’ve been a very big help with all of your videos about FPV flying. I’m just getting started on this hobby, and like you said in this video:’It can be quite overwhelming.’ And it is. Every little part of the quad will learn you so much. And thanks to your videos, I learned a lot.
I’m a sound engineer in Holland, so I have a handy background for soldering, frequency and programming knowledge. But still it is a hard hobby to get into.
I just finished my first build, an Armattan Rooster 4S, thanks to your advice on one of your live streams. And I love it.

Keep making fun and informative videos.
And as always: Happy flying : )

  36. Ken Spaceman on February 25, 2021 at 12:11 am

I have a newbie prop question. How do I know what props to get for my newly ordered Eachine Cinecan. Eachine only says it uses 2” props, not what kind of bolt hole separation or bolt size is used. Googling for Eachine Cinecan propellers gave no hit. Even on Eachine’s web store there is no listing under like “Cinecan propeller” and the Trashcan props clearly have the wrong prop center for the Cinecan. So what props should I get and where can I order them?

  37. pistolpistol100 on February 25, 2021 at 12:12 am

I just recently discovered, the hard way that having out of balance propellers on a quad cause the motors to get super hot(like way too hot to even touch) and have probably somewhat destroyed them and put crazy unnecessary stress on my flight stack.

  39. Luisete22222 on February 25, 2021 at 12:15 am

Nice info. I have a question for you @Joshua Bardwell, I am a beginner myself and something that might seem stupid, for me is a nightmare. I have already lost two nut props trying to fly a Nazgul 5, and I am still trying to figure out why!!! Is there any specific way to screw them on ? do they have to be really tight, not much? thanks a lot

  40. pixard on February 25, 2021 at 12:15 am

when you said "hello geginners" I write this comment and never gonna watch this viedeo again.

  41. graywoulf on February 25, 2021 at 12:15 am

Do the props need washers? And if so, on the top or the bottom or both? How tight should the nuts be? And if I reverse the props, does that mean that the props could loosen the nuts in flight and come off?

  42. Quadcopterguide on February 25, 2021 at 12:15 am

Great Channel Joshua, I’ve been consuming your content like candy, you should see a nice spike in audience retention across many videos this weekend lol jk ;). I was hoping to learn how tight you get the props, I assume snug but not crushing with a wrench or tool and not just finger tight. I’m a little surprised they thread all motor shafts the same. I guess it’s not an issue..

Great video I did knot already know and I do now haha. I do have a question if anyone happens apon this I have seen in other videos that poeple loose props in flight like they spin strait off and the quad crashes, why is that?does that only happen to the racing guys or is it something I need to worry about I assume when I install a prop. I just get it a good feeling amount of tight (it is plastic after all) or do I need to use a thread locker? anyway just wondering if someone could give an old man a little help.

After flying my TinyHawk into my daughters hair and not being able to fly it after taking it apart to remove all the hair I finally tought I’d try and see if I put the props in correctly. Of corse I ended up at Joshuas video which answered my question on how to find out which way they should face and my TinyHawk is finally flying perfect. Thank you.
