Podcast Ep 6: Drones For Good

Podcast Ep 6: Drones For Good

Drones are the most rapidly evolving form of aircraft, and while recreational pilots fly them for fun or photography, drones can do a lot more. In this episode, we explore some of the many functional roles that drones play right now — from creating maps in the aftermath of a wildfire and measuring wind speed in the center of a hurricane, to monitoring crops. You’ll hear from Commander Tom Madigan of the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, Lieutenant Junior Grade Nicole Chappelle from NOAA’s Officer Corps, and James Grimsley, who managed the Choctaw Nation’s participation in the FAA’s UAS Integration Pilot Program.

If the FAA was truly concerned about safety they would ban the notion of flying pizza and porn delivery drones over the general public…Not some guy flying a toy in a park…GFY FAA/Amazon coop….

General Radio Control Hobbyist: "We have an 80 year long safety record"
Amazon Pizza Delivery Drone Service: "Crickets……"

All this has been foisted on we hobbyists without so much as a RISK ASSESSMENT being done…How do I know this ? Because I filed a FOIA request months ago and received a response not long ago…That one was never done…
I know why. Because it’s the Amazon Pizza Delivery Drones that are the new risk and they don’t want to be bothered…..
This new rule set allowing flying over people is contrary to the safety rules we hobbyists have been following all along. It’s not we that needed this rider. It’s the commercial ventures that want to fly 24/7 over the landscape in hair brained pizza and porn delivery schemes. What could possibly go wrong ..irresponsible dolts. Vic keeps whining elsewhere about having reasonable conversations yet the hobbyist has no voice so this is what you get and deserve..dissent..
Unjust rules are not to be followed but challenged….Brace yerself shiny…..
Vic Moss photo looks great on my dart board

I think its great that the drone hobbyist has spent there time and money helping the kind of things that this video talks about( looking at forest fires, getting data on hurricanes and getting medical supplies to help people) but the hobbyist are being pushed out of what made all this possible. The advancements come from people that love to fly and they have spent countless hours and dollars doing this. Manufacturing has developed new technologies and products for the hobbyist because of demand! the same technologies that the FAA have on this site showing the good it has done. New people have been becoming part of this hobby everyday, not so they are to be monitored like a prisoner, its so they can do something incredible and fun with the technology that was created for entertainment. There will always be irresponsible people doing all kinds of things that are dangerous and maybe even against the law with just about about everything there is in life. The responsible hobbyist shouldn’t have to feel and be treated like a felon to keep doing the thing they love. Don’t make me a criminal, because I’m not one, I’m just living the dream……

I think we should regulate and fine all "checkers" players. Checkers and chess is far more dangerous. Im sure some child has died by eating a checker, Yet not 1 person has died or had a serious injury from a "UAS". Why dont ya just say drone because this has nothing to do with safety. They do not require Tracking chips on RC Airplanes which get up to the size of small cars and people definatly get hurt when they crash, and they crash often. This has all been paid for by Amazons Jeff Bezos, Richest Man in the world. Your not suppose to do everything he tells ya

    “Public Safety Tool.”
FAA: Fire this man. Quadcopters are dangerous, sinful and not profitable.

4:39: Maybe you should of done more research instead of reading a script.

Ffs, this is conversation is so bipolar between quadcopters being good and bad.

5:21 Speak for yourself. Drones are expensive. The lives of other people, not so much. At least from what I’ve been seeing how the USA treats it’s own citizens. “Throw them into the hurricane, Randy! We can hire more Temps next week!”

5:45 No, they’re actually being devoured by Cthulhu, but incited the FAA for flying drones around his or her, no judgement, airspace. Should have checked the Sectional Charts for a little Cthulhu icon near where the hurricane is located.

8:17 Whoah, whoah, whoah, dost my ears deceive me? High altitude for drone operation?! Blasphemy!!

9:00 I don’t think she got the memo. The FAA would rather not have drones advance any further. Any further would constitute drone on drone warfare. Can’t have that!! Not without Remote ID?! How else would we be able to know if something went boom-boom!!
