In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew unboxes and sets up Bebop 2 drone from Parrot, along with the FPV Pack, which includes the Skycontroller 2 control radio, as well as a pair of goggles that can provide a First-Person View flying experience using an Android or iOS smartphone. The aircraft itself comes with one flight battery, two complete sets of propellers, a propeller mounting tool and a battery charger, as well as cables and other accessories. Before flying, download the Free Flight Pro app, available for free, which provides a live digital video feed with some latency, as well as aircraft telemetry. The smart device with the app installed can either be connected to the Skycontroller 2 by means of a USB cable, or used to control the aircraft directly.

A friend highly recommended the Bebop 2, so it’s in the mail as my first drone. More important than the FPV headset is that the camera shoots in Adobe DNG, which is an uncompressed format editable in Photoshop. As a photographer, high-quality aerial photos = $$$$$.

Excellent drone. Easy to repair yourself. Flys like a champion and takes excellent pics and decent video. I get up to 1.6 miles range and 25 min on each battery minimum. As I said best part is that it is VERY durable and repairable. I have mavic as well but I love flying bebop much more. Easy to set up and you are flying in 10 seconds.

Also flight plan is much advanced than even the DJI for sure. Ian’s the follow me does a great job too. The controller feels very well built and responsive as well. You won’t get disappointed with bebop. That’s for sure.

Okay. I’ve owned mine for one year. The Flight plan software is great and easy to set-up. Because of the GPS, It never fails to complete its mission and return, even when disconnected from your controller, plus you don’t have to fly the route first to set it up. You can do it from the comfort of your home without the drone running. I understand that’s a safety concern but if you know the area and scout it properly, not really.

Very sporty and responsive if that’s what you’re looking for though as with most cheaper drones don’t expect it to stop quick when you’ve been flying like a mad hornet. There’s considerable drift after releasing the stick.

By today’s ever increasing standards, photos and video are just okay and for some folks that’s sufficient. If those two things are important to you, don’t go Bebop2 cheap (I know, it’s not cheap-cheap) or when you can, fly in only the best light.

The customer service is frustrating as hell. It’s in Egypt (yes, seriously) and everyone speaks with a strong accent, making communication under already difficult circumstances even more difficult. They are patient but you best be too. I knew the names of most every customer service rep there and they did not communicate well with each other in spite of case numbers. My drone was out of service for problems a lot. Different customer serv. reps will tell you different things.

My experience is that it easily becomes disconnected from the Wifi signal in urban settings, even as little as 200 ft. straight overhead, not just when there are hills, trees or two-story buildings between you and it. Almost every time I fly it beyond 100 yards (evecn in the open) it loses connection, sometimes several times, anywhere from 15 seconds to a minute on avg.

I use a mini iPad 4 and there’s lag time, jerkiness and rolling in the video. Definitely keep this well within sight unless you’re using the GPS flightplan. On that point, when flying the flight plan for any great distance (say one that doesn’t go further than a half mile away), expect to lose connection so you cannot see where the drone is or make adjustments to the camera exposure or in the worst case scenario exit out of the flight plan in case of a potential collision. Scary stuff.

On the positive side, it’s well made, takes a lickin’ and keeps on tickin’. I’ve had my share of crashes and the worst to happen is a bent propeller and it still flew on restart but was noisy. Stay at least two hundred yards away from any cellphone towers. I lost mine in a lake for that very reason. The tower, less than one-hundred yards away. The Bebop disconnected and hovered in place until the battery ran out, dropping into 8 ft of water. I had no way to retrieve it. To their credit, Parrot replaced the entire drone, but it was a long an arduous procedure and I was without the drone for like a month and one-half.

I see the price on it is dropping and with new and more advanced drones coming out, it’ll probably be priced about what its truly worth. Just my opinion. The new replacement drone Parrot sent me … has the same issues as the old one. Recently, 250 ft. directly overhead, antenna pointed up, the drone didn’t respond to my pushing the "home" button. That’s kind of important you know? I recommend keeping it close for sure in manual "free-hand flight" and don’t expect to watch your whole flight through the nose if you fly very far out in the flight plan mode.

So I have a store near me where they have the Typhoon H for $749 and the Q500 for $599. Which should I get?

  17. The droner on December 15, 2020 at 10:15 pm

Funny how the phantom fanboys or people that only can afford Walmart drones, complain about the bebop2..which it’s an excellent drone for the price..I’m not a professional photographer or anything so the pic/vid quality is good enough for what I do..plus I have went over 2 miles with the skycontroller2, and if things get sticky ,the drone always comes back to me! I also like the way it looks (like a jet fighter rather than a weird squid) and the agility of it, not to mention that It’s built tough enough that if you crash you won’t break it easily…parrot customer service has been great to me too

    Great presentation

  19. NatureLove on December 15, 2020 at 10:18 pm

Glad you could fix it if parrot would manage to put it offer camera replacement which would be 2k then it would be I think the best selling drone in market as a prosumer grade quadcopter.

I was hesitant to buy one of these, but after doing some research I went ahead and grabbed one. SO glad I did! This little bird is darn good at what it does, you just have to make sure you know what it doesn’t do as well. After 40+ flights I am just as impressed as on day one.

Strange, this is the first drone unbox and set up i have ever seen were i don’t like anything about it before its even been flown.

I appreciate the quality and detail of your video,I struggled watching what parrot puts out there for setup and its horrible. I sat with their instructions for an hour and could not get the skycontroller to connect to the bebop, just the blinking red light no matter what. According to their instructions you pair these two up before you hook your phone or ipad up. I ended up using the phone through wifi to connect to the drone, then hooked the usb cable up to the skycontroller and finally a green light 🙂 A lot of messing around simply due to instructions that don’t equal results. I am hoping I didnt make a mistake with this drone, the price was right. I am curious what your experience was with the FPV side of the kit?? Thanks again.
