DESCRIPTION
The story of technology is one of convergence. It is ideas applied; forged from multiple disciplines, all coinciding at the right place and at the right time.

This video is an account of a tiny sliver of that story. Where a novel concept, born out of the explosion of discovery at the turn of the 20th century, would slowly gravitate towards a problem that lied a century away.

9:46 I’m surprised that animation was possible in ’75. I heard it took a full day to render and print out the original set in ASCII when it was first discovered.

Love to see you experimenting with the format and reaching for really big ideas. You’re one of my favorite creators on YouTube. Thank you for continuing to tell these stories.

nice to have a more ‘human’ element to the presentation of these videos. move the cue/script further away for less eye skits.

‘Everywhere continuous, but nowhere differentiable’ is a surprise even now to mathematicians. Remember this and mention it to a mathematician that you know. Just say ‘there are functions that are …’ They might be surprised. I mentioned it to a Math PhD in one of the best universities in Australia (ANU) and it was a surprise to him! An old result, but little known.

A challenge as science gets more complex and detailed is bringing the technological expertise together to made advanced products. That is where the military have the edge.

The idea, to add yourself, is perfect. Makes movies much more pro-like. Less "slow". if you will practice, and eye movement from close shoots, will not be visible, it will be at TV level! 🙂

*The fiber optic cable that goes to the control center where the pilots that fly those drones used to go through the woods in the back yard of the house I used to live in. I was digging up bamboo plants when I found it. Verizon handles the hardware. Not sure where the line goes but I suspect the line goes to a local server that goes to the pentagon, but thats not where the pilots are. Looks like they went through quite some trouble to keep it out of the way. We had a natural disaster that washed away part of it and the news reported that it was compromised so I followed it from where the flood was and it led back to the cable I found. It was just like any other cable they would use for fios but in a spot that you would never use to service houses or businesses. Dont ask me where it is, I dont want a knock on my door*

I noticed you used some fractal flames animations, particularly at 17:17. Can you tell us where you got that from? Such animations are somewhat rare due to the processing time they take to render.

I am the author of one program which renders fractal flames, named Fractorium. Others are Apophysis, JWildfire and Chaotica.

A coworker and physic dr. met Mandelbrot once. He’s truely a clever mind on it’s own but always described Mandelbrot as one of a kind. He could see formulas appearing our of images and could solve it in his head while talking to you. I’m really impressed and envy I never met him 🙂

Good video as always, but just as a tip for future videos:
You usually pronounce German names, exactly as they are written; there are barely any silent letters, that aren’t "h".
And btw. the letter combinations ‘ch’ [in Russian: х] and ‘sch’ [in Russian: ш] create unintuitively different sounds.
