    Thank you Sean, great video again. Look forward to the next, I can’t see me staying in the hobbie though. It’s just too complicated to even begin to understand, especially if you have a couple of different sized drones, ect. I might try an E-Scooter instead? They look fun and less restrictions, appart from illegal on the Rd and pavement but cops don’t do Frak all when they see them anyway. 👍

Not really bothered about making any money from it but just to record some basic videos for friends & family. Just wondering how close etc we will be able to fly to people & buildings
    Obviously with safety paramount

    Greetings from Cyprus Sean. I have already been informed by the local training company (when asked about the new EASA regulations) that ‘Cyprus CAA may not implement the new EASA regulations, because it is not considered a priority’. I was also informed at Cyprus CAA will not recognize my UK A2 CofC. I guess they are protecting the locals as is usually the case in Cyprus, and ignoring the EU rules.

    I am hoping that an App will exist that allows you to input your drone model and your qualifications (or none) and then from your GPS position it will give you a green light or a red light and show a hatched area on the map showing the limits of legal flight. I am probably expecting too much.

    I have a s162 drone which takes 4k videos and photos. Do I need to get an operators pass. I asked another YouTuber and he said its fine as its classed as a toy. Says 14+ on box. Can you please give me your views on this as I’m a bit confused. I’m thinking I do need one as it’s got a camera

    CAA and FAA need to understand that people also make there own drones and will just go to the local parts to fly no matter what BS rules they pit out, we are not gps drones and crashing and fixing is part of the fun, FPV people who have been flying for some time have a massive advantage of flying closer to anything but are being told that need to go in the middle of no where, the is a massive latency difference between a hand holding gps drone and a fpv racing one, I will as always think about safty and fly only when I feel I am being safe and will stop if I don’t, I really cannot care less about the rules like most are fed up of them, I fly safe never hurt anyone and do what I can to manage risk where I can, it has work the passes years, CAA and FAA need to stop trying to make money from DJI and amazon ext, just have it as hobby keep to these rules, simple ones, and for amazon and so on tell them they neeed to be above 400 to 500 feet, tell mand they need to be above 600ft, fine them if they do not keep to the rules, have clear no fly zones to allow plains to land and take off, and have apps that tell you this, already is, FPV is getting a extra BS rules and they want me to by stuff from them and have GPS tracking stuff on my stuff that crashed, winder if they honer replacement, thinking payplal claims would be the only way to go with them but then I bet they know except card payment, its a joke, nice youtube video as always just needed to vent

    Did you realy mean we would have to register a Mavic mini or that we would have to register our selves for an operator ID and a user ID ? I have gone from PPL to ATPL to Cof A for a 1200Kg aircraft to this which is a true 21st century dogs breakfast of opportunism

    Hey I have 2 questions, 1) Do I buy the Mavic Air 2 now or should I wait? 2) I won’t be flying close to people or buildings etc but what is the distance I have to keep away? 1 last thing is what if someone flys close to buildings or over people, can that be enforced or is it one of those things where its only if someone reports you to the police?

    So if I’m flying FPV under 250g (more like 30-40g) and it’s not recording video, I don’t have to register? But if I’m flying fpv whoop like the Mobula 6 HD which is like around 27g, then I will have to register with the CAA…..? What does this mean if I won’t sell my crappy DVR footage?

    Great video. All London councils ban drone flying on council property, parks etc. So my question is do these new rules have any effect on council ruling ?

    Interesting info but I’m still not convinced the CAA or UK authorities are in any hurry to bring in these new EASA regs!

    Regulations are there to prevent breaches of law. So can the regulations be enforced as no laws have been broken (unless of course there is an insured party)? Air Navigation Order is the legislation or law right? Not the regs 🤔

    Who will be even dealing with monitoring all this shit? Police in Estern Europe are almost not familiar with the existing of drones not to mention to go chasing you and ask you anything (of course except if you’re too obvious) lol

    Sean, thanks for the video. I have been having some discussions with other pilots about legacy drones and transition period. I had the same opinion as you, MM1 (or MM2 without C class) and MA2 can fly as legacy drones in subcategories A1 and A3 until December 31st 2022 and only in subcategory A3 after that. Other pilots have stated that in their opinion MM1 can still fly in subcategory A1 after the transition period. This is a very important point to be enlighted.

    As far as required training is concerned I believe that MM1 pilots in the UK need to complete the DMARES? Following EASA rules MM1 and MM2 pilots don’t need to take any course, just read manufacturers instructions, and MA2 pilots need to take an on-line test to fly in both subcategories A1 (only during transition period for drones without C class) and A3 . How it will be in the UK? Am I wrong in my interpretation of the rules?

    Since you seem to understand drone rules very well, I have a question (not specific to this video). What are the definitive UK rules on launching a drone from a public footpath or bridleway? One drone flying school seems to think it is perfectly legal to take-off and land on any public footpath or bridleway, so long as there isn’t a byelaw in place and you are following the drone flying rules in terms of proximity of people and buildings. This is the rule I have always followed. What’s your view please?

    Thank you for this. I’ve had my drone sat in a box for nearly a year, as I’m too worried about where and how I can fly it. I’ve got a Mavic Air right now and thinking about swapping to the new mini. Would be great if you could do a video on pros and cons of this. Right now I’m just a hobby flyer, but would like to be able to earn from footage. I nearly sat the PfCO last year, but confused as to what I’d need to do right now in the UK and for travel in Europe (when we are allowed back out). Thank you.

    Hiya, Great channel and I see you’re growing. Good job. Wondered if you could help. I’ve a pfco license for my mavic 2 pro but recently bought a mini 2 for jobs where I need a small footprint. I know most of the laws around both drones but a client has asked me to fly a drone in London and I know permission is possible but its usually quite tough to get and was wondering your interpretation of flying the mini 2 in London. Being a general no fly zone am guessing that even with the mini 2 permissions are still needed. Of course I need to look into this more closely but thought you’d might have a bit of knowledge before I start making hundreds of phone calls. Thanks Carl

    It’s now at the point were I can not be bothered with all the hoops that need to be jumped through to fly. I won’t be RE registering. I’ve decided,I shall just fly as I want as. I always have without Injuring anyone or anything without all the hassle and worry of if Pc plod or some other gestapo vigilante has a problem.

    I am wanting to keep within the law so my question is
    Not for any money
    My neigbours want me to go to there house and fly above it from there garden for purly there own enjoyment of having a video to look at
    As there are a few people in houses close by wat can i legally do thanks

    Hey Sean, great job as always and very much looking forward to this series of videos.

    Couple of questions – Do the new regs come in 0:00:01 of Dec 31st or Jan 1st? I don’t want to get up early on New Years Eve to finally be able to get some shots of our town church then get my collar felt by PC Plod and thrown into prison to be raped in the showers by Mr Big who’s in with all the warders. 🙂
    Also – can you confirm, as I believe will be the case, that with our own risk assessment carried out (and privacy of neighbours taken into consideration) we will technically be able to take off and land from our gardens? I’m not likely to but knowing that it’s a possibilty would be good.

    I wrote to our local councils to ask if they are going to be reviewing their parks policies in light of the new regulations a couple of months ago (Bucks CC, Oxon CC and Milton Keynes Council) and have yet to receive any reply. It’s a shame we don’t have a National body to try and get councils to be bit more drone friendly. (See also National Trust and English Heritage)

    Anyway, whinge over, keep up the good work. Always entertaining and informative.

    These videos are going to be very helpful in making the decision to to buy the new drone. It’s something I have been thinking about getting into but worried I buy one then can’t fly it much due to breaking any rules or laws! Therefore making buying one pointless. Hopefully I will get enough info from these videos before Xmas to make a final decision 👍 thanks

    Hi I am currently returning the the hobby, the last time i was active in the hobby was back in 2016, some time before all these laws started to come into play. I recently acquired a DJI phantom 3, I have registered it and got my flyers ID, will i need to pass a £200 test in order to fly it at all?

    I’m a bit annoyed with the CAA TBH.
    I updated my operator id last month and in none of the correspondence did I see any detail about these new regs. They did say there were changes afoot but also that they would advise of these changes once known. It’s due to that point that I came looking for info.
    I am a hobbyist with a Spark and a Tello and it seems that after the initial period, both will be for the bin for anything other than flying over an empty field. That’s not right. 😠

    5:09 This is a hobby killer. And this means that all children who has tiny Quad(sub 250g) with camera will be criminalized. This changes UK rule "Safety First", since flying without a camera is more "dangerous" than with it. At this point privacy is more important than safety. General rule of flying 50m away from buildings would be enough. But government want to control all flying cameras, because this is the one of the things they afraid off. And since they criminalized even the children by default they will reduce number of people developing the engineering skills and their intelligence. If similar things will happen like in Gatwick Airport(actually there was no drone) they will come to (imprison) the nearest registered users guilty or not.

    I’m thinking of buying the DJI mini 2. Looking at the new rules. I’d be able to fly it under A1 without any formal training etc for the foreseeable future? I’d have to register because it has a camera. Is that correct. Do the rules of 500m and line of sight still apply?

    Hi there, I still have a question: I photograph properties for estate agents, and have been considering for ages adding drone shots to my business.

    The changing regulations and the new Mini 2’s raw capability are finally making me think I’ll take the plunge at least as a tester. (Heck, I want one for fun anyway, so might as well see if I can make use of it.) 

    Trying to make sense of all the regs and every time I think I’ve got my head round it I come up with a “yeah, but…” 

    Specifically, I’m still not clear if an A2cofc alone would be enough for the sort of flights that shooting properties in, say, suburban or even urban Hertfordshire would require. I feel like most of the sort of properties I’m commissioned to shoot may well require flights over and around roadways etc to get decent frontage shots.

    Or even, if I was initially flying a Mini 2, could I operate in this sort of environment even without an A2 CofC?

    Great videos, many thanks for your content 👍 I’m just about to purchase my first drone, I’m considering either the Mavic air 2 or mini 2 but I’m slightly confused about the rules. Is it the case that after registering for a fly and operator ID, I could fly the air 2 out in the country side but must be 150m away from people? If that’s the case, it raises many questions, for instance, if I’m flying and it appears clear of people below , then if people start walking toward the drone, would I have to kind of zig zag around them, even at a good altitude?

    What if I take off with nobody around, then when I want to bring it back, someone walks within 150m of me, would I have to walk down the road etc?

    Also, if I then take the A2 C of C course am I then allowed to fly over buildings but 50m from people?

    Maybe I should just buy the mini 2 lol I do want to learn to fly well and possibly earn a bit of money eventually whilst keeping it a hobby, but initially it’ll just be a hobby.
    Any advice would be much appreciated

    Great videos , you explain everything really well long winded like some others , I am a MM1 owner since May and have used it within the rules , lots of people like my photos and have asked for photos of there properties but as it’s in a built up area I have sadly declined , with the new rules I assume I can fly houses and launch from back gardens without risk and not been 50m away or 150m ( still abiding by the privacy rules of course )
