MQ-9 Reaper armed drones to be operated from the UK – BBC News

The UK’s fleet of 10 MQ-9 Reaper armed drones are to be operated from within the UK at RAF Waddington. The drones were originally operated from Creech Air Force Base in Nevada, USA.

The UK has a number of other drones in use, including Hermes 450 surveillance drones which are gradually being replaced by Watchkeeper WK450 surveillance drones (54 of which are on order). The UK also operates smaller drones, such as the Black Hornet, Desert Hawk and T-Hawk. There are two drones in development; Taranis, a UCAV technology demonstrator, and Telemos, a joint venture with France, based on BAE Mantis.

The UK is the only country in Europe to operate armed UAVs.

No because they are too busy being brainwashed by their tree hugging leaders. =

  2. Luke Tuttiett on March 28, 2021 at 12:45 am

I want the UK to leave the EU and get rid of human rights so we can do what the hell we want!

  3. Mikal UK on March 28, 2021 at 12:45 am

We don’t have Harriers anymore, we sold our last (19?) of them to the USA, the US plans to use them in Afghanistan.

  4. Jules Michael on March 28, 2021 at 12:45 am

Should use them to bomb the BBC.

  5. Robert King on March 28, 2021 at 12:46 am

Each patrol should have one of these above at all times, its a complete game changer and will mean less deaths for our boys.
We dont operate these like the yanks do and people need to understand that.
Soldiers are british people just like us , doing there job and trying to better themselves , we have an obligation to make sure they all come home safely and unharmed. The people complaining should do so outside parliament and not the bases.
If all the armies in the world also helped build more instead of destroying , the world would be a better place. but war is good business for arms manufacturers , and if we are going to pay towards it then we should take whatever will keep our soldiers alive.

  6. Mikal UK on March 28, 2021 at 12:46 am

They are still all Harriers at the end of the day, and it shows how good the Harriers were if the US bought them from us despite the fact they know the UK is upgrading, usually the US does what ever it can to be better than everyone else, but come on, with all the UK’s new tech.. Small but mighty military.

  7. Katze on March 28, 2021 at 12:46 am

Why are they only protesting against drones? There is no difference between drones and maned fighters… Its a plane that fly’s and can engage targets. So its ok for a pilot to put his life on the line to fly into combat but its not ok to send an unmanned aircraft that doesn’t endanger pilots… That makes total sense….

  8. ToonandBBfan on March 28, 2021 at 12:50 am

    The Reapers drones are fantastic.
They can loiter and conduct recon for our ground troops as well as give them fire support if required.
We need MORE of them IHMO

  9. Mikal UK on March 28, 2021 at 12:51 am

    Prove it.

  10. XtotheZ Xzibit on March 28, 2021 at 12:53 am

Not exactly (or anywhere near) as honourable as a Spitfire pilot though.

  11. Katze on March 28, 2021 at 12:53 am

If you protest about the use of drones (unnamed aircraft), you must also protest against the use of maned aircraft as well. They are the same thing in a matter of thinking, they are both controlled by humans, just one is sitting in the aircraft itself, the other in a command base. Why endanger your own pilots when you can send a drone? stop complaining people.

  12. Mikal UK on March 28, 2021 at 12:55 am

Agreed, screw the EU, and bring back the death penalty so tax payers can stop spending £30,000 a year per terrorist, rapist and murderer just to keep them in jail, people like that don’t deserve to live.

  13. Nounismisation on March 28, 2021 at 12:55 am

(What a bizarre way of talking)
    (and very, very close miced)

  14. Alexander Fewtrell on March 28, 2021 at 12:56 am

Reaper drones are more effective than say a Eurofighter Typhoon because they’re more accurate and don’t risk any British personnel.

  15. Minizip on March 28, 2021 at 12:56 am

Drones are safer for the personnel piloting them
Although I would prefer to fly a jet.
    More precise hit

these hippie pricks haven’t got a clue, these terrorist sympathizers should go live in Iraq for a week! The RAF don’t drop bombs on random families, & with the new updated thermal imagery civilian casualties are at an all time low! if they don’t want drones assaulting terrorist positions, maybe we should send these  "British" people, I’m british and these anti war protesters make me fucking sick

  17. The One With No Name on March 28, 2021 at 12:58 am

What a load of hippies, one saying their killing civilians and another saying it’s not fair cause we don’t put our own at risk…. fucking hippie cunts. more drones for surveillance is a positive thing for Britian.

  18. TheREALMcChimp on March 28, 2021 at 12:59 am

Aye, and bring the death penalty in for those activists, too. A pain, the lot of them.

  19. Parmeet Singh on March 28, 2021 at 1:02 am

Clearly, these people prefer terrorist activity over drones.

  20. mike wilson on March 28, 2021 at 1:03 am

Fantastic piece of kit. Protesters get a life.

  21. Retrosicotte on March 28, 2021 at 1:03 am

"No resources" – Aside from at least two immense oil fields in our global territories and a large quantity of coal still under the British Isles. And a huge volume of fish. And strategic locations in Gibraltar, Cyprus, Ascension and the Falklands.

Having a global nation requires a global military. A global military requires higher funding than what we give them already. NHS has been ringfenced for years, you haven’t lost anything to it while defence has been unfairly cut more than any.

  22. Riley Palmer on March 28, 2021 at 1:05 am

yet a pilot can kill closer putting them at danger at the push of a button

  23. Haroon Naseri on March 28, 2021 at 1:05 am

Yes they using them in my country AFGHANISTAN & killed to many of our innocent ppl in afg why the fuck they do that the usa not even afrid from 1 Almighty God Allah my GOD has mention in Quran even if a muslim person kill non muslim person Allah can through them into hell fire

  24. Kevin Maher on March 28, 2021 at 1:06 am

Of course not. It’s in their nature.

  25. Phat Strats on March 28, 2021 at 1:07 am

Guys I support the British armed forces

But seriously who would attack us! Their is no resources here and we have nukes for God sake!

I would rather have a good economy and NHS than a good military

  26. TheREALMcChimp on March 28, 2021 at 1:07 am

Talk to the bloody Argentines, talk to the Falklanders, and ask THEM who might attack us.

  27. Chris Goddard on March 28, 2021 at 1:08 am

We need to make them better and we need to have a lot more, also they should be used in more places.

  28. TheREALMcChimp on March 28, 2021 at 1:08 am

We have one of the most high tech military airforces in the world-the only oldish thing we have in is the harrier, and we’re getting rid of them as we speak.

  29. Aaron Cunningham on March 28, 2021 at 1:11 am

Half those bloody hippies think that drones are going dropping multiple bombs on little Sally and her family whereas they are actually carrying out recon to protect British troops and end the end the British public

  30. William L on March 28, 2021 at 1:13 am

Silly pensioners have no idea what theyre talking about

  31. Retrosicotte on March 28, 2021 at 1:14 am

Do any of these idiots protesting even check their facts? Everything they say is things the USA has done, not British forces. Britain doesn’t use them to target people in villages in Yemen or Pakistan. They are combat line support units to the RAF, not assassination platforms in the way America uses them. Geez, will protestors ever do their damn fact checking?

  32. Bigdangleeballs on March 28, 2021 at 1:14 am

Ooh no, the drones kill the enemy in a war zone at a touch of a button. What a bunch of cockwombles. So these sock puppets are sympathetic to a bunch of brainwashed nutcases who would torture then kill them and their families in a heartbeat. Why aren’t these jellies protesting at the horrific treatment of non believers in the Middle East. That would make a little more sense.

  33. MylesOHarcourt on March 28, 2021 at 1:15 am

If that stupid hippie woman is so upset that we don’t risk the life of a soldier when we fly a drone over Afghanistan she should go and fly a manned aircraft herself and put herself at risk.

  34. Mikal UK on March 28, 2021 at 1:21 am

BMP for some reason your post doesn’t show up, but I can see it in my messages, anyway, I read that they planned to buy the Harriers to use in Afghanistan, but of course that might be wrong, yes the price was pathetic, we could have made so so much more.

Once again it looks like the UK gives to the US but gets nothing in return, which is why I’m happy the UK-US relationship is starting to more look like neutrality.

  35. ishmyboy on March 28, 2021 at 1:23 am

    Get your facts right! [Protesters]

  36. Jack Mccabe on March 28, 2021 at 1:23 am

  39. HowHC2307 on March 28, 2021 at 1:30 am

Omg do them protesters want the World to be safe, these drone pilots and the drones are preventing loss of life within the British military and still has the same impact on enemies. These are safer for the British military also easier.

  40. slang1984 on March 28, 2021 at 1:34 am

    dirty hippie-commies.

  41. Minizip on March 28, 2021 at 1:35 am

Also activists would prefer their own troops to get Hirt rather than a terrorist.
They don’t know what war is. It’s a serious political matter and governments pic the best for their country (most of the time coughNSAcouphcoph)

  42. merjue obregon on March 28, 2021 at 1:36 am

uk need this planes as one of the great military power in the world… uk need to upgrade their planes and etc. equally to other military power.
