SCROLLERS!
Just for you:
https://youtu.be/oUHywM7ZfCU
Try setting the drone on top the case next time, not the concrete. Works for me most of the time.
I was a dum dum, and asked for clearance past sundown, and …… hopefully it ain’t on my permanent record.
Last time I tried for LAANCE approval, it denied me ’cause my 570 gram drone is over 55 kilograms.
I used to get warnings at our old address because of the Hospital and the Airport but now new home and outside the 5 mile radius which is nice. Otherwise we must drive to Des Moines to get on LAANC like you do. I really want to go and fly our Capital Building which is covered in 24carrot Gold wrap on the Dome. Yeah those republicans got their priorities straight here you know. (sorry had to take a shot.) It’s a beautiful building so I think a sunrise or sunset would be really pretty. I just don’t know who to contact because it is a no fly zone. Hears hoping before winter I get my shot. Good video, I’ve used the app once before with no problems and it is very straight forward to use.
I feel like I saw this video before, is this a reposting?
Quick silly question… can i register my drone for both recreational and commercial? And also, if im just gonna use it for youtube and social media do i have to get commercial?
What”s the rules for night flying within a controlled airspace?
Would you suggest using this if you’re flying fpv?
0:2 I help you setup a blog and setup to earn money Wha ts app +7 9 6 7 1 5 7 0 5 8 1
Another great video. Two things. First, a lot of people don’t understand with with controlled airspace authorization the max altitudes are absolute AGL, there is no structure exemption like in uncontrolled airspace. Second, In those areas close to an airport where there is no automatic approval(Red 0 as you say), you can still request access though a donezone authorization request. It takes time and a little more planning, but it can be done. There is a tower I do quarterly inspections that is 50ft just inside the 0 altitude area. This is also one of the reasons I went with the EVO 2 as none of the DJI drones will let me fly there even though I have authorization.
Ken, how do you use AirMap with the DJI smart controller?
Would you have been ok’ed to fly without the 107?
Cant wait until australia adopts this style of approval, have to wait 3-5 weeks for paperwork to be approved + anywhere from 800-1000$$ in approvals.
Hey Ken. Great video. I live in a class D zone so I applied for an airspace authorization in FAA drone zone and got it…with the provision I fly at or below altitudes described by the UAS Facility Map. On airmap, everything is in red so I guess my local airport does not support laanc. However, it does give altitude limits ranging from 100 to 400 agl. Not every sector of airspace is zeroed out. Can I fly in these limits with my paper authorization? And, should I consult B4UFly app prior to each flight?
We should fly whoops or micros at mud island if they’ll let us!
Kittyhawk works much better in my opinion. You can link your DJI drone (at least with my Mavic 2 pro) and Kittyhawk as well. On a more personal note, in the past, the folks behind Airmap seem to have some agendas that in my opinion, are not very helpful to drone hobbyists. That’s my two cents. Good video. More people need to know how easy LAANC really is.
Hope we are gonna get a system like this in Canada soon…
I’m in Fayetteville, AR and its beautiful out here for drones😝
Here in NC. I have the NC permit for commercial flight of drones and they are super big about having "permission" to take off from the property owner of where u take off from. Just curious if u asked the hotel management about that? Ya can’t always get in contact with property owners and its really annoying.
I live real close to an airport and Airmap show a bunch of red lines with 0 under. I don’t have a part 107 though. I get rejected.
Ken,
I have some questions about BLVOS and your LAANC approval. It is hard for me to confirm your distance compared to your flight distance, or to see the drone from where you were standing compared to the level you were at while looking at the "people". Can you comment on the altitude of 100 feet and the relative position of your drone on what appeared to be the far side of the bridge from where you took off, and also if you can see a drone at 100 feet and at the distance you were by the bridge and all the buildings, trees, and bridge structure between where you took off from.
I’m sure your flight was o.k. or wouldn’t LAANC notify you that you were outside your cleared flight boundaries? If approved for a certain area by LAANC, does it keep track of your actual flight, and if you stayed inside the boundaries. I tried to take off once on the approach side of the Jefferson County airport which I didn’t know I was close to until I tried to take off. I was on the fence line of a golf course riding my trike in a park, and I was going to fly around a baseball field to practice flying with drone facing me. No way.. Then a Cessna came overhead on final for the field. I could have hit it with one of my famous slices.
Does LAANC stop you if you stray??? Does the DJI app interfere once you have approval??
Thanks. Be well and stay safe,
bf
Just used it yesterday
Hey Ken I live in a small town and a small airport unmanned here most times. The lance shows a airport (plane) in picture ,but no kind of restrictions. Them circle thingy things. What would be the rules for that ? Thankx for any help.
We need a LAANC system in the UK.
Good refresher video, albeit a repeat, on flying regular drones. Just wish you would create more new video content for camera drones. I’m sure that there are many, if not more, of your subscribers, who are subscribed, due to drones that aren’t FPV, that would like to see more videos from you that aids them in flying their drones.
Thanks Ken. Curious. Do you prefer AirMap or KittyHawk? Any reason for your preference?
Hey Ken, love your channel and you have been a great help in getting me started flying. Just may want to add that even though the red bars are not LAANCed you can get authorization to fly. Have to go through DroneZone and submit request manually. We have had 2 in Class B&C airspace 0 AGL airspace. Got manual authorization for 150 Ft for 1.5 hours and a night ops. Just took about 2 weeks and submitting bunch of planning and detailed flight area. Have to manually unlock DJI geofencing.
Good video Ken! I have a question though… When you took the drone out over the water there was no way you could have seen that bridge via "line of sight" Is going that far abiding by the rules ? Am I completely wrong in my understanding of line of sight?
I find KittyHawk easier to use for LAANC. You don’t need to put in all that information each time.
Did you fly beyond visual line of sight in this video from where you were standing? you definitely cannot see the drone from the river
Hey Ken – thanks for posting this. I haven’t seen it before, and it was helpful to see it. Question though – the Mavic Air 2 has a means for authorizing through the app. Is that an LAANC compliant registration? Or how about the DJI one on their website (https://www.dji.com/flysafe/self-unlock)?
Great informative Video Ken! I’ll be using this one in my class!
Hey Ken, I noticed you said it’s really hot down there but isn’t it november? LOL.
I just finally got the brilliant idea that I should comment on your videos from my drone account and that might actually help me get some viewers and accumulate my thousand hours. I’m a little slow sometimes LOL
Plus if I use this account you don’t have to wonder how to pronounce my name… so o caada 38
Come to Norfolk to fly one day!
Ken! How was your Halloween evening?
Thanks for the info, great video as always
Awesome
You can spin the drone without spinning yourself.
boycott airmap.. do your research on the company and what they are about..
Great video, Ken. In regards to flying in the zero grids, if you go through dronezone.com and request permission, you have a better chance of approval. You can also get wide area/blanket approval for two years in controlled airspace through drone zone. I’ve done it in my area numerous times. My local airport’s controlled airspace is not a LAANC participant. I made a video on how to use drone zone to get approval. For some reason, it didn’t get very many views. Oh well.
I feel like i’ve seen this before? lol 0.o
I live in Class B space. I use this often, good demonstration…. I am just a hobbyist, so yeah… Have fun, and thanks for showing everybody! Do yo pronounce it Lank, or Lance?
Two comments on using LAANC/AirMap:
• I use the web-based AirMap to look over an area before I head out. The bigger screen gives me a better view of the area. I often have the AirMap on one side of the screen with a comparable GoogleMaps displayed on the other side so I can look at the overland travel to the LZ I’ve chosen on the LAANC map.
• I have better results when requesting a flight authorization scheduled for “now” than I do when scheduling one at some other time. Scheduling for some other time than “now” get rejected about 50% of the time. Duuno why.
Hi Ken, thanks so much for your ongoing GREAT content! Hey, you mentioned you’d provide a link to the AIRMAP app in the description but I was unable to find it there. In Apple’s store they list more than one app, so I just wanted to be sure. I THINK that the correct one is at this link:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/airmap-for-drones/id1042824733
However, there’s at least 1 other one, for example:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/avision-for-drones/id1447141892
Thanks in advance for your response bud!
Colour grading on point!
You may well get approved for the 50 foot request if you submit it at least 48 to 72 hours ahead of time. Anything above the printed altitudes will fail instant approval in my experience. I live in a class C airspace so the wide area authorization is best which gives anytime access up to printed altitudes even an night with the Daylight waiver. Plus if you submit the docs to DJI they will unlock that airspace for the duration of your Wide area authorization.
YES. I have to unwind too after calibrating the compass lol
Well, that’s it. Have only had my drone for two weeks and I am selling the thing. I have checked with my county and city and there is no place that I can legally fly my drone within 45 minutes. I live close to a small airport and a military base. The local parks are are off limits, both city and county. Well, it was fun while it lasted.
Hey Ken I had a problem with LAANC and the DJI app just 2 days ago. I got approval as I was on the outermost edge of the controlled air space. I was approved to fly 400’ from AirMap app but the DJI app wouldn’t let me go high than 200 (or 196). Know what I did wrong?
Ken, your still awesome all these years. Thank you 🙏 Sure wish you would visit California 🙋🏼♂️
I will say, it is possible to get authorization if you submit a flight in a “0” grid. You just can’t automatically the same day. The ATC Manager will call you within about a week (usually shorter) to discuss the operation and how you will complete it safely and if the deem it safe, they’ll authorize the flight. Usually they’ll also have you call the tower before you begin the flight at the scheduled time to let them know you are there and flying. Do NOT call the tower though if you are not in this situation.
