So if you had moved out of the restricted zone of the airport over to the 100’ ceiling area, just a couple blocks away and gotten LAANC approval would your drone have taken off without DJI authorization? Probably not. So how do you deal with that to be able to get past the DJI GEO fencing restrictions even though you have LAANC authorization when you need to fly immediately as. Part 107 pilot?

  2. Jason on March 8, 2021 at 12:02 am

So once you get authorization do you have to say within the circle you requested from within the restricted and the non restricted area?

  3. Enrique Rodriguez on March 8, 2021 at 12:04 am

Do you need to follow these precautions if you have the dji mavic mini?

  4. EGL24Xx on March 8, 2021 at 12:05 am

How the hell did you get a 107 license if you don’t know how controlled airspace works… Those 400s (around 1:20) indicate the max altitude you can get automatic authorization from LAANC for. You’re right, you’re in the inverted wedding cake, but you’re in the inner ring so you should know that in that region class B starts at the ground. If you flew without authorization where you were, you would have violated class B airspace.

I’m a little confused in that I got approval today through LANNC for a flight tomorrow using my Mavic 1 pro. I applied for the permission on my iPhone but I will not be flying with my iPhone I will be using my Wi-Fi iPad mini . How does DJI go 4 app know that I have authorization using the Kittyhawk app?

It’s close to an airport in class C airspace but I’m afraid I’m gonna get a no-fly when I get there tomorrow. Even though I have permission through Kittyhawk. Can somebody help me put these things together?

  6. Romanellochw on March 8, 2021 at 12:06 am

The FAA doesn’t show DJI as having completed any technical steps required — and entered into agreement with the FAA to provide LAANC Services. How did you get approval for your Phantom 4 in the tallest building video?

  7. S Leal on March 8, 2021 at 12:07 am

So should I use the laanc or is the DJI go app ok to use for recreational?

  8. Kay H on March 8, 2021 at 12:10 am

I call my Runway…. a Driveway. And why do we park in driveways? And drive on parkways? LOL good educational video.

  9. Gaetan Labrie on March 8, 2021 at 12:10 am

Hi Ken, being new to the world of DJI drone. I recently acquired a Mavic Mini and will be traveling in the US from time to time. Despite that I don’t need any registration or permit, when flying in a airport Zone do I need to do the LAANC aplication request and the Geo Unlock from DJI? Trying to figure this out .

  10. Dragon Air Photography on March 8, 2021 at 12:12 am

Thanks Ken! Did my first real estate job with LAANC last week. Easy peasy! I have been told there are instances where you have to get DJI to unblock the geo fence as well. Have you had to do that? Also, I understand the FAA and Kittyhawk are now in kahoots and it’s the preferred app for this. Any insight on that?

  11. Super T on March 8, 2021 at 12:12 am

Can you use LAANC with a unregister drone like a Dj Mavic Mini?

  12. FilipVlad on March 8, 2021 at 12:13 am

In Europe are the same rules?

  13. Carlos Garcia on March 8, 2021 at 12:13 am

Ken, I just started using the AirMap app and I got a verification code from AirMap. Where do I input that code in the app?

  14. Casey Cleveland on March 8, 2021 at 12:13 am

How does this vid have ANY "unlikes"?? This is a great vid and a front runner for this info. Thanks again, Ken!

  15. Willy Bunao on March 8, 2021 at 12:15 am

Sir Ken how am i goin to sked exam and what are the requirements i need? Thank you

  16. nate pate on March 8, 2021 at 12:15 am

Ken can you file with FAA to get clearance?

  17. Caleb Guffey on March 8, 2021 at 12:15 am

I use Kittyhawk to get LANNC it is really easy to use too.

  18. RGMG on March 8, 2021 at 12:17 am

Great stuff….just passed the 107 exam and knew there had to be an easier way to submit this stuff. Nothing related to the LAANC System comes up in the exam so this is great stuff! Thanks Ken!

  19. Robert Silvers Photo on March 8, 2021 at 12:21 am

Try the Kittyhawk app for LAANC. It is very nice. Airmap is not really working on my iPhone 11 Pro Max.

  20. Ken Tomory on March 8, 2021 at 12:21 am

Ken, I just ran into an issue with LAANC. I’m in an area where a class B and class D – overlap for 2 neighboring airports. LAANC wont give instant authorization here. The FAA said to just submit a written request. Also I have a second area which has LAANC approval, but is also GEO Fenced. I received the instant Authorization but, the GEO Fence is still there. Searching for video on Geo Fence, any dealings with it?

  21. gary wick on March 8, 2021 at 12:24 am

Do you have to fly with AirMap app open ?
    I got authorization near ohare
But my drone would not control
    And kept giving me warnings
1st attempt going to keep trying until I figure it out

  22. JUNEORJUNE on March 8, 2021 at 12:24 am

WHAT IF WANNA FLY OUTSIDE OF THE BLUE AREA, WOULD I NEED AUTHORIZATION?

  23. Daniel Johnson on March 8, 2021 at 12:25 am

Thanks Ken for showing us how to fly legally and set up flight plans. Very big help! You have put out the best instructional videos in my opinion so far.

  24. Doug Gould on March 8, 2021 at 12:27 am

Hey Ken, I got FAA Cert of Waiver to fly near my Class C in 3 weeks. Using Kittyhawk to get LAANC authorization was always rejected, with a note to apply to FAA directly. I did and got the authorization. So, how do I enter that into either my Mavik Pro or the Kittyhawk app so I can fly the mission on the authorized day?

  25. Top Drone 360, LLC on March 8, 2021 at 12:28 am

Good stuff as always. I have a shoot in two days, followed your video and hit submit to be told airmap did not submit? Question: Do they wait till day of flight or maybe I should lower from 400ft to 350 or so? It’s a small airport and I’m shooting real estate so I don’t think it should be an issue. The app does have the flight plan listed just not sure what happens now and trying to plan the shoot and let client know we are a go. Any in-site on planning flights a day or more out would be get! Thanks so much Ken

  26. LeeJane2009 on March 8, 2021 at 12:28 am

Lol, I go dizzy too! Will try rewinding next time 😂👍

  27. dafish6969 on March 8, 2021 at 12:30 am

Here it is almost 2020 and still no LAANC for the airport near my home. But don’t call the tower. This is one SLOWWWWWWWWWWWW roll out.

  28. Brian Sussex on March 8, 2021 at 12:34 am

How can you upload your profile picture in air map? I cannot figure out how. It just shows “TV” .

  29. Drone Everything on March 8, 2021 at 12:35 am

All you had to do is hand Launch it from the parking garage

  30. junior centeno on March 8, 2021 at 12:35 am

Is this app for dji drones only or is it for all drones.

  31. Primus on March 8, 2021 at 12:37 am

    Ken,
I love your videos. If haven’t already done a video on your video editing equipment, could you share? I’d like to know what type microphones you use while filming, what computer software you edit with etc. I want to do what you do, not on YT, but more for video production (drone-centric) in general for real estate listings etc.

  32. Johan renen Campaniel on March 8, 2021 at 12:37 am

Can you use airmap on other countries

  33. Charles A. Ragucci on March 8, 2021 at 12:39 am

Thanks, Ken I’m going to give this a try!

  34. Austin Wienbar on March 8, 2021 at 12:42 am

Hey thanks for posting this video very helpful but question what if I am offline want to fly near an airport and let’s say I wanted to get permission to fly but offline don’t have access to airmap what would u do in that situation?

  35. joncourage on March 8, 2021 at 12:42 am

Great vid and great info, thanks Ken. You’ve been a great resource as I’ve started down the drone pilot road for fun and for gain. I’ve recommended you a few times already. If you’re ever in Tampa, let’s fly!

  36. Timmy the Woo on March 8, 2021 at 12:43 am

ok, however, WHY you feel the need to do this, other than having a good reason. Isn’t there "Plenty" of WORLD to fly your drone?

  37. NHILL Productions on March 8, 2021 at 12:43 am

Thanks for the great video. Don’t call the tower…LOL!!!!

  38. Coby Randal on March 8, 2021 at 12:43 am

Thank you for showing what app to use and how this system works. The FAA website was not clear about this. Also, your drone footage is very smooth. Did you do any video processing to enhance smoothness?

  39. Emmett C. on March 8, 2021 at 12:44 am

lol for like 2 or 3 years ive thought im in a controlled airspace and now I checked and im good. Thanks for the good videos.

  42. Chris Coston on March 8, 2021 at 12:49 am

New subscriber and 107 pilot here, thank you for this!

  43. BigFoot on March 8, 2021 at 12:50 am

What do you do when the airport is not on a laanc?

  44. Steve Phelan on March 8, 2021 at 12:51 am

Question: Would you have been given permission as a hobbyist without a107 for that same flight?

  45. Eddie Solis on March 8, 2021 at 12:53 am

Would I be able to use this on base to get videos of the static displays on base?

  46. Marc Aquino on March 8, 2021 at 12:53 am

I am not a part 107 certified, but my drone it’s registered. When I tap on my face (inside AirMap App) I don’t get the add a new flight. It only said… You have no current Flights. Why is this? BTW completely noob here, I just purchased a Mavic 2 Zoom and didn’t even know about all this rules and certifications.

  47. A Bennett on March 8, 2021 at 12:54 am

I completely a profile at airmap.com, but the app won’t let me login.

  48. Hector Ayub on March 8, 2021 at 12:54 am

As always, all your videos are impeccable, fun and above all very illustrative.
    Thank you Ken!

  49. souocara38 on March 8, 2021 at 12:57 am

Hey Ken I have an idea but I never know how to make my ideas work so I’m giving it to you. Invent a mechanical hand for our drones that can wave to the people who wave to us. Don’t you have the urge to wave back when people are waving at your drone?? Lol

  50. Josue De La O on March 8, 2021 at 1:00 am

Like that you are part of the ROTARY family apart the drone fam.
