My understanding LAANC is only for 107 pilots (Commercial) If your flying as a 101 pilot (Hobby) you must still call ATC and give notice before flying in a restricted flight area.

Great video – Do you have to apply for LAANC through the FAA or are you able to just download a 3rd party app & begin using it? I thought the approval process for LAANC was a long one? ( please reference this link – https://www.faa.gov/uas/programs_partnerships/uas_data_exchange/industry/ )

    Thanks.

Thanks – great job! LAANC is exactly what the industry needed. My understanding though is that recreational flyers can fly within 5 (statue) miles of an airport if they notify the airport operator and ATC first. An authorization (in writing) from the FAA is not required. Of course an authorization is needed if 5 (nautical) miles for PT107. See (www.airmap.com/rules-to-fly-recreational-drones/) number 5. Looking forward to LAANC starting at Houston IAH in 2 weeks! Just subscribed, keep up the great work!

I wonder how this will work on the DJI smart controller?

Excellent VLOG and great 👍 information for all of us whether for business or commercial.

Please help. I did try this and my approval worked and everything but it gave me an error message saying flying with DJI is not supported for this Samsung device running Android 8.
Basically I was trying to fly with the air map app with DJI and they won’t work together with Android 8. it says update to 8.1 but there is no update for my phone it’s a Galaxy 8??
    Please advise thanks

Do you have your part 107 license to submit a request?

  9. Chris Parayno on April 10, 2021 at 1:20 am

Yup, I used to have to call the tower all the time. So much better now!

  10. Scott M89 on April 10, 2021 at 1:20 am

Ive tried this in my neck of the woods (san diego) and i do not get the authorization screen at all before submiting the flight. Anyone know why this may be? Thanks

  11. Chuck Purnell on April 10, 2021 at 1:21 am

What happens when you don’t receive that text message? Does that mean I did something wrong or my request was denied? Airmap said there was no advisories for the area I want to fly. Maybe that’s why? I use Verifly for insurance and they are saying I need authorization to fly in this certain location but Airmap is showing I don’t need anything…I am so confused! Side note, I was just out in Pittsburgh last week watching the Steelers…Love that city! I wanted to fly there but opted not.

In the app under "controlled Airspace" it says that Mckinney Clss D airspace requires FAA Part 107 waiver.
So am I wasting my time even using this LAANC ??

  13. Juays Photography on April 10, 2021 at 1:23 am

Thanks for the video. How does AirMap integrate with the DJI app? It is all fair and well getting the instant approval but if the DJI Go app is not notified it will stop you from flying.

Hello, My question , Is Air map with LAANC capable with DJI Crystal Ski?

  15. Sarasota Experience on April 10, 2021 at 1:33 am

Awesome video and extremely helpful! Also I grew up in Pittsburgh and now live in Sarasota Florida. Your voice is music to my ears! Love the Pittsburgh I can hear in your voice. Looking forward to watching your videos.

Thank you for the video! I noticed in the app process the question regarding anti collision lights…if you don’t own them and answer no, do you feel that that no answer will cause your request to be declined? Thank you for your time.

Good video. I just passed my part 107 exam this past Thursday. Noticed that all testing sites closed the following day and will not reopen till January 12, 2020. How far along is LAANC now? And is the app that you show the one to download or is there something else I should consider? Thanks for the video…liked and sub’d.

  18. Bobster986 on April 10, 2021 at 1:43 am

Yeah great, when is it going to be available here in NY?

  19. rhyfelur on April 10, 2021 at 1:43 am

I have used Airmap several times, to request approval. It appears that I am being approved, but I have never once received a conformation text. Every other feature appears to be working as shown in your video…only the conformation text is missing….Thoughts?

For DJI Drones and others do you have to do something to the drone to use this?? Another words if I was close to an airport now and my drone wouldn’t start because of airspace, once I apply for the LAANC for that area how does my drone know when to start because if you’re in a bad area the drone won’t even turn start up??
I guess I’m not sure how that system talks to the drone so the drone will actually work?
    Thank you please help

Looking at your screen captures, it appears that hobbyist flyers can use this LAANC system as well. Is that the case?

  22. Keith Schoeppler on April 10, 2021 at 1:47 am

Good info. Thanks. I liked and subbed

I live in miami and i want to fly under the mission of Fly for Fun (part336) do i need to call the tower for authorization ? or with the airmap wil give me the authorization?

  24. Mike Roche Media on April 10, 2021 at 1:50 am

Do you have to enter that number into the DJI app? Or is it just an authorization number for your records? You don’t have to put it into your drone somehow?

  25. King Jesus Channel on April 10, 2021 at 1:51 am

Great timing, because I plan to get a Part 107 license. And the LAANC system is so invaluable, and getting approval within minutes is better than waiting days, weeks or months. Thanks for the info and explanation! Safe piloting and God Bless!

  26. Brad Weier on April 10, 2021 at 1:53 am

AIR MAP no longer shows this. They must have removed it from the app

  27. JH on April 10, 2021 at 1:53 am

Great video! I wonder what would happen if you just go fly your drone without applying for approval.

  28. OUTLAW199317 on April 10, 2021 at 1:54 am

if approved in a 200ft AGL area, will DJI allow operators to fly 201ft and drift from the box or does DJI limit the drone to a specific geo fence?

  29. Common Sense Logic and Reason on April 10, 2021 at 1:55 am

Does the air map app has the max agl?

  30. Joseph Garcia on April 10, 2021 at 2:01 am

One of the better and thorough instructional videos for drone flight. Any instructional videos for waivers?

  31. Michael Floyd on April 10, 2021 at 2:02 am

So if I understand you correctly, you dont need to use lance if you are flying for fun, but you do have to call air traffic control to let them know. If im wrong please advice.
