How to submit LAANC requests in Kittyhawk (2020 update)

Here’s a quick look at how to submit LAANC requests in Kittyhawk in 2020. You will need to submit a LAANC request if you are trying to fly in controlled airspace with your drone, whether as a hobbyist or under Part 107.
The process is pretty straight forward with Kittyhawk, which is one of the many apps you can use to get LAANC approval. AirMap is another option but we prefer this app because it is easier to use and provides more accurate information.

    When I pull up the app I don’t see any gridlines on my map. I only see the shaded areas. Any ideas on how to get the grid to show?

    Any suggestions on using multiple drones at different times? I have 2 and for constant hard flight I’d like to use one after another. Or say one gets damaged or just doesn’t feel like working that day(we’ve all had this happen). How do I legally use my backup quickly?

    A while back I made a request through Kitty hawk for a class D airspace where the airport had no tower and received an authorization text. The authorization was never completed through the airport because the airport manager left before the request got to him. I went to the site I ‘thought’ I was authorized to fly in only to get a text from Kitty Hawk that I was rejected right at the scheduled start time. I emailed Kitty Hawk support they advised “if the airport does not authorize 24 hours before flight time the authorization is automatically rejected”.

    I was hoping this went a step further and having you click on “fly”. I’ve done all this but when I fly it immediately lands. The Kittyhawk app says “ready to fly” but my remote says “in NFZ”.

    if you’re outside the squares ( no squares on the map) . does it mean you can fly without LAANCe?

    Greg these are great videos for real life….I think it would good to do a video strictly talking on when we need to do this and when we don’t need to and go over maybe a handful of different examples. Even like my city example I sent you. It really does get confusing and every situation is so different.

    When I tab on "Add" it doesnt give me a choice to choose LAANC Authorization. It only gives me the option of "Log Flight" and "Log Checklist" I dont have the drone yet but I just installed the app. Why cant I see the same options you see here in the ​3:19 mark of this video?

    Kittyhawk seems to work well, very simple and straightforward. I have a question: Scenario is the following: I am flying in class D airspace, within 5 miles of airport (CDW) that has LAANC capability. I want to fly as a recreational pilot, before or after twilight hours (FAA compliant with strobe lights). LAANC does not let me do this currently. How do I get authorization? Must I file a daylight waiver application that might take up to 90 days for approval or is there another way I can get authorized more expeditiously? Thanks!
