How to register your drone

How to register your drone

If you fly a drone, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA), for business or use one as part of your job, as of 28 July 2021 there will be a drone registration levy.

This applies to commercially operated drones more than 500 grams.

Commercially operated drones weighing 500 grams or less, will still require annual registration but there will continue to be no charge.

Commercial operations may include activities such as:
• selling photos or videos taken from a drone
• inspecting industrial equipment, construction sites or infrastructure
• monitoring, surveillance or security services
• research and development
• any drone activities on behalf of your employer or business.

Watch our step-by-step guide on how to register your drone.

Does everyone need to register and pay an annual fee to own a drone?
