The first guy can’t be too serious of a drone pilot. He has the cheapest DJI Phantom 3 there is. It’s the standard.

AOPA is a joke… gloss trash mail in general aviation pilot’s mailboxes… competly useless except for starting fires in your fireplace in the winter… well not even good for that, too much kaolin clay in the paper that makes it glossy.

Stop calling them drones!!! They’re sUAS !!!
IMHO, as a Part 61 pilot, the gotcha here is the letter A in the designation sUAS. A is for aircraft and THAT’S how they’re able to shoehorn (INapplicable) ‘big AIRPLANE’ rules & regulations into and onto a totally new breed/branch of model flying. IMHO the moniker should have been sU*s, with the * being the letter F for flight, or M for model. In this way the FAA would have had to come up with a NEW SET OF APPLICABLE REGULATIONS. (But I guess THAT would have been too much work, so it was easier to just call them aircraft and slap on all of the aircraft rules & regs.) IMHO, the FAA lost a golden opportunity to come to speed and be ‘modern’, embrace a new branch of aviation yet allow for a modicum of accountability if someone decided THEIR use of THEIR ‘model airplane’ was NOT just something that was hobby-related.

If these people had any real credibility they wouldn’t be calling them drones.
