How to Apply for an Airspace Authorization with LAANC

How to Apply for an Airspace Authorization with LAANC

What is the Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC)?

LAANC revolutionized the way the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) manages airspace authorizations, and it provides drone pilots with increased access to controlled airspace, as well as greater flexibility in operational planning.

In this webinar, Langston Majette β€” with a special appearance by Acting FAA Administrator Dan Elwell β€” explains what the LAANC capability is, how it works, and how the FAA collaborates with the drone community to provide operators with automated applications that enable more flights into the National Airspace System (NAS).

If I have a drone that is not required to be registered (due to light weight), do I still need to get authorization?

So you can no longer put in a request from drone zone? And if LAANC is not avail in your area what is the proper procedure?

16:50 You keep quoting "Use Drone Zone for airspace authorization where LAANC is not available. Looking at Drone Zone, there is no place to apply for airspace authorization.

The airport that surrounds my house isn’t listed in the laanc capable sites. I am capable of filing a flight plan but I get a message saying no authorizations have been sent. So I’m getting some mixed information. Seems to me I cant get true authorization to fly in my area. I called the tower who simply didn’t want to deal with my question or was clueless as to the laanc system, he directed me that the only resource I had was to go to (really as if I didn’t already look there) c’mon @faa get the info out there to the towers or make all airports have laanc capabilities.
