How Missiles And Drones Shape The Future Of The Military

Missiles, drones, and mercenaries are changing global warfare.

Armed drones are growing in military importance as conflicts around the world have proven the utility of these effective tools of war. Companies in China, Turkey and Russia, among others, have developed advanced remotely piloted aircraft that can use guided weapons on and off the battlefield.

The widespread use of drones in Iraq and Afghanistan by the United States to target and kill insurgents jump started a new chapter in the history of conflict. These high flying and remotely piloted aircraft could engage targets with impunity while the operators work safely in a ground control station.

“At the moment, we’ve seen over 100 states worldwide using military drones and that number is growing significantly” said Wim Zwijnenburg, project leader, Humanitarian Disarmament at PAX. “We have over 20 states that are using armed drones in conflicts or outside of armed conflicts.”

Keeping the crews out of danger also made the drones politically cheap to use over dangerous skies. Now more and more countries are gaining this military capability for their own purposes.

Meanwhile, technological advances have reached missiles. Missile sales are the number two defense export in the U.S. and production is dominated by a handful of companies such as Raytheon, Boeing and Lockheed Martin.

A number of start-ups with cheaper technology are challenging the long-standing status quo of expensive missiles and hypersonic glide weapons. If these start-ups succeed, they’ll change the missile economy.

In addition to drones and missiles, mercenaries are also disrupting global warfare. The private security business in the U.S. is a massive industry employing hundreds of thousands of people. These firms can range from security contracts at shopping malls, to former U.S. special forces soldiers who guard diplomats.

Private security is expected to grow to an $81 billion industry by 2023, and that’s just in the United States, according to the Freedonia Group. It goes way beyond security guards hired to protect industrial areas, commercial areas and residential areas.

One nuclear weapon has killed all of humanity. It will be 10 000 years of work to survive nuclear technology from nuclear weapons use.. it is reasonable to say one nuclear weapon killed all of humanity. It is reasonable to say one nuclear weapon is the death ☠️ of all life. The nuclear nonproliferation treaty was ratified by Congress and the USSR to begin to address the nuclear cascade created by nuclear technology . We don’t build develop or share nuclear technology.

Not a township believed of those which We destroyed before them (though We sent them portents): would they then believe ?

And We sent not (as Our messengers) before thee other than men, whom We inspired. Ask the followers of the Reminder if ye know not ?

We gave them not bodies that would not eat food, nor were they immortals.

Then we fulfilled the promise unto them. So we delivered them and whom We would, and We destroyed the prodigals.

Now We have revealed unto you a Scripture wherein is your Reminder. Have ye then no sense ?

How many a community that dealt unjustly have We shattered, and raised up after them another folk!

And, when they felt Our might, behold them fleeing from it!

(But it was said unto them): Flee not, but return to that (existence) which emasculated you and to your dwellings, that ye may be questioned.

They cried: Alas for us! we were wrong-doers.

And this their crying ceased not till We made them as reaped corn, extinct.

We created not the heaven and the earth and all that is between them in play.

If We had wished to find a pastime, We could have found it in Our presence – if We ever did.

Nay, but We hurl the true against the false, and it doth break its head and lo! it vanisheth. And yours will be woe for that which ye ascribe (unto Him).

    Unto Him belongeth whosoever is in the heavens and the earth. And those who dwell in His presence are not too proud to worship Him, nor do they weary;

They glorify (Him) night and day; they flag not.

Or have they chosen gods from the earth who raise the dead ?

If there were therein gods beside Allah, then verily both (the heavens and the earth) had been disordered. Glorified be Allah, the Lord of the Throne, from all that they ascribe (unto Him).

He will not be questioned as to that which He doeth, but they will be questioned.

Or have they chosen other gods beside Him ? say: Bring your proof (of their godhead). This is the Reminder of those with me and those before me, but most of them know not the Truth and so they are averse.

And We sent no messenger before thee but We inspired him, (saying): There is no God save Me (Allah), so worship Me.

    And they say: The Beneficent hath taken unto Himself a son. Be He Glorified! Nay, but (those whom they call sons) are honoured slaves;

They speak not until He hath spoken, and they act by His command.

He knoweth what is before them and what is behind them, and they cannot intercede except for him whom He accepteth, and they quake for awe of Him.

And one of them who should say: Lo! I am a god beside Him, that one We should repay with hell. Thus We Repay wrong-doers.

Have not those who disbelieve known that the heavens and the earth were of one piece, then We parted them, and we made every living thing of water ? Will they not then believe ?

And We have placed in the earth firm hills lest it quake with them, and We have placed therein ravines as roads that haply they may find their way.

And we have made the sky a roof withheld (from them). Yet they turn away from its portents.

And He it is Who created the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. They float, each in an orbit.

We appointed immortality for no mortal before thee. What! if thou diest, can they be immortal!

Every soul must taste of death, and We try you with evil and with good, for ordeal. And unto Us ye will be returned.

And when those who disbelieve behold thee, they but choose thee out for mockery, (saying): Is this he who maketh mention of your gods ? And they would deny all mention of the Beneficent.

Man is made of haste. I shall show you My portents, but ask Me not to hasten.

And they say: When will this promise (be fulfilled), if ye are truthful ?

If those who disbelieved but knew the time when they will not be able to drive off the fire from their faces and from their backs, and they will not be helped!

Nay, but it will come upon them unawares so that it will stupefy them, and they will be unable to repel it, neither will they be reprieved.

Messengers before thee, indeed, were mocked, but that whereat they mocked surrounded those who scoffed at them.

Say: Who guardeth you in the night or in the day from the Beneficent ? Nay, but they turn away from mention of their Lord!

Or have they gods who can shield them from Us ? They cannot help themselves nor can they be defended from Us.

Nay, but We gave these and their fathers ease until life grew long for them. See they not how we aim to the land, reducing it of its outlying parts ? Can they then be the victors ?

Say (O Muhammad, unto mankind): I warn you only by the Inspiration. But the deaf hear not the call when they are warned.

And if a breath of thy Lord’s punishment were to touch them, they assuredly would say: Alas for us! Lo! we were wrong-doers.

And We set a just balance for the Day of Resurrection so that no soul is wronged in aught. Though it be of the weight of a grain of mustard seed, We bring it. And We suffice for reckoners.

Zelensky has confirmed right now that Ukraine is not a state, but a terrorist organization that is engaged in hostage-taking, but the most amazing thing is that the democratic and civilized West will pretend that it does not see the leader of the large parliamentary party of Ukraine For the Life of Medvedchuk taken hostage by the Ukrainian president. for whom millions of Ukrainians voted and now Zelensky wants to exchange him for captured nationalists from the Azov regiment.

What Edison generators powered electric drone with high tech radar linked to missiles radar RF scanner. Jet quality drones make no fly zone possible and inexpensive.

  26. djinn Man on May 8, 2022 at 6:53 pm

    Exaggerated influence. And nothing new.

    1) Drone strikes have been in use since gulf war. In fact most of the drone strikes have been ineffective and there are now increasing EW countermeasures against them. Small drones may enjoy some better success for the moment.

    2) Anti Tank missiles – the Russians introduced thisin the first place back in 1973 war against Israel which took massive losses against the Egyptians with the Sagger, again in the Lebanon invasion 2006. The current situation in Ukraine with Russians still controlling the ground with armour would suggest those missiles have not made much of a dent as the Russians employ constriction tactics to squeeze out those pockets of remaining Ukrainian forces. And the missiles are expensive compared to one 125mm round from a tank.

    3) Anti Air missiles (MANPAD) again nothing new. These were effective again in 1973 Arab Israeli War for the Egyptians and later for Mujahedeen in Afghanistan. Its a common menace for most air forces. That Russian tank columns are still en mass and miles long would suggest they have better control of the air than media would prefer to suggest

    4) Land base Anti Ship attack…again the Egyptians had done this many decades back against the Israeli destroyer Eilat from small patrol boats literally from harbour. Whether the Moskva did get hit by missile or succumb to shoddy seamanship (Ala recent US navy fires) is also debatable but this is not a new menace.

None of these are anything new or in anyways impressive or effective. Russian forces are still in situ and slowly applying a vice grip around Ukrainian resistance (slow death)

Part of this may be Russian mistakes on the tactical level here and there

But also there are other considerations for Russian planners which include –

    1) Civilian casualties. Ukrainians are cousins of the Russians and it would be unpopular both in Russia and counter productive if Ukranians civilians are killed on droves ala US collateral damage style.

Russians have delibrately not closed off the cauldrons to allow seepage of civilians out of the war zones.

Much of the civilian population in the East/Donbas are also Russian or Pro-Russian in sentiment given Ukranian shelling of them over past 8 years.

    2) Russia would likely prefer to capture as much of the cities intact and avoid going in to them getting stuck in urban warfare where rubble becomes an equal menace. They could not avoid this with Mariupol given fanatics there with Azov but have been very restraint in other areas so far.

    3) Russian forces are also smaller than Ukrainian forces (albeit Ukrainian forces are steadily eroding faster and at greater numbers particularly trained soldiers and critically NCOs)

People forget Russians are not deploying the bulk of the military.

This is to ensure they can rotate the troops sufficiently as they are anticipating a longer drawn out scenario.

They did not have sufficient troops to occupy such a massive country as Ukraine all at once so bar the early salvo trying to test political collapse in quick push to Kiev, they are now consolidating and concentrating on Donbass first where much of the Ukrainian forces are stuck in a pocket anyways.

How much of these small number of weapons the West is sending over will get to the fight is debatable. Whether they have any impact to dent Russian military is even more so.

The only thing unfortunately it is doing is likely to enrich US MIC and to prolong the suffering of the Ukrainian people.

Its always people who do not have first hand knowledge of warfare like West Media or politicians that are happy to sacrifice others for their own fairy tales.

And Western audiences lap the propaganda up willingly believing they have a ‘free media’

    Tragedy sadly.

  33. Faro Zara on May 8, 2022 at 7:02 pm

Today there is no greater glory for man than that of service in the cause of the “Most Great Peace.” Peace is light whereas war is darkness. Peace is life; war is death. Peace is guidance; war is error. Peace is the foundation of God; war is satanic institution. Peace is the illumination of the world of humanity; war is the destroyer of human foundations. When we consider outcomes in the world of existence we find that peace and fellowship are factors of up building and betterment whereas war and strife are the causes of destruction and disintegration. All created things are expressions of the affinity and cohesion of elementary substances, and non-existence is the absence of their attraction and agreement. Various elements unite harmoniously in composition but when these elements become discordant, repelling each other, decomposition and non-existence result. Everything partakes of this nature and is subject to this principle, for the creative foundation in all its degrees and kingdoms is an expression or outcome of love. Consider the restlessness and agitation of the human world today because of war. Peace is health and construction; war is disease and dissolution. When the banner of truth is raised, peace becomes the cause of the welfare and advancement of the human world. In all cycles and ages war has been a factor of derangement and discomfort whereas peace and brotherhood have brought security and consideration of human interests. This distinction is especially pronounced in the present world conditions, for warfare in former centuries had not attained the degree of savagery and destructiveness which now characterizes it. If two nations were at war in olden times, ten or twenty thousand would be sacrificed but in this century the destruction of one hundred thousand lives in a day is quite possible. So perfected has the science of killing become and so efficient the means and instruments of its accomplishment that a whole nation can be obliterated in a short time. Therefore comparison with the methods and results of ancient warfare is out of the question.

According to an intrinsic law, all phenomena of being attain to a summit and degree of consummation, after which a new order and condition is established. As the instruments and science of war have reached the degree of thoroughness and proficiency, it is hoped that the transformation of the human world is at hand and that in the coming centuries all the energies and inventions of man will be utilized in promoting the interests of peace and brotherhood. Therefore may this esteemed and worthy society for the establishment of international peace be confirmed in its sincere intentions and empowered by God. Then will it hasten the time when the banner of universal agreement will be raised and international welfare will be proclaimed and consummated so that the darkness which now encompasses the world shall pass away.

    (Abdu’l-Baha, Baha’i World Faith – Abdu’l-Baha Section, p. 232)

“Glorified is He before Whom all the dwellers of earth and
heaven bow down in adoration and unto Whom all men turn

return. He is the One Who revealeth whatsoever He willeth
and by His injunction ‘Be Thou’ all things have come into being“.

European officials have blamed Russia for recent disruptions to satellite navigation systems used by commercial aircraft in Finland and the Black Sea. HawkEye 360, a U.S. radio frequency analytics company, last month said Russia had jammed GPS signals in Ukraine in the months leading up to the Feb. 24 invasion.

In November, Russia’s GPS jamming disrupted Ukrainian drones in Luhansk and Donetsk, HawkEye 360 said. The Switchblade and Puma drones that the United States has supplied to Ukraine use GPS coordinates to hit targets and navigate.

Its about time, countries started facing the fact that we have become so powerful, that war is pretty much unthinkable. At least between any modern and developed country. Nukes put an end to such thoughts, but other technologies are becoming just as destructive and not as long lasting, not covering huge areas of the Earth in radioactive material, and thus are usable. But who wins, when both sides are totally destroyed.
