How AI is driving a future of autonomous warfare | DW Analysis

The artificial intelligence revolution is just getting started. But it is already transforming conflict. Militaries all the way from the superpowers to tiny states are seizing on autonomous weapons as essential to surviving the wars of the future. But this mounting arms-race dynamic could lead the world to dangerous places, with algorithms interacting so fast that they are beyond human control. Uncontrolled escalation, even wars that erupt without any human input at all.

DW maps out the future of autonomous warfare, based on conflicts we have already seen – and predictions from experts of what will come next.

    Israel’s perspective:

    Anyone (potential enemy)

    Terrorist (potential buyers)

Just wait till somebody figures out how to hack an entire autonomous Network and unleash all their bombs in themselves. That’s going to be a great day

The us military can’t even tell the difference between boys and girls. How will they fight a war? Let alone against advanced technology. Why do you even pretend to care? The us will be finished soon if they keep going this way.

Nice to see Israel selling these weapons to potential opponents of the US. Very similar to Germany testing it’s weapons in Spain in the late 1930s. All Israelis should be proud, Americans should take note.

only way to over come this is to develop counter technologies , kill all electronic equipment’s around an area etc. time will take us there

one day, some bright general or minister will think.. since humans take so long to make a decision when attacks happen.. we can let AI make decisions since they are less prone to mistakes and react much faster than humans.. thats the day we let machines take control of the "trigger".. like Skynet.. lol..

People are now not at all talking to each other. We have become more sophisticated as technology and relying on AI to find out what is happening next door! Just have a smiling face and talk it out, everything has a solution. Enough of this war, killing and egoistic mind

what, nuclear weapons have plenty of other uses besides being a weapon. America used them for underground mining and Russia used it to put out a fire

Autonomous Weapons are NOTHING absolutely Nothing Compared to BIOLOGICAL WEAPONS….. I AM TALKING ABOUT A DISEASE SO DEADLY THAT SPREADS IN AIR IN AN AREA OF 1000 SQUARE MILE THE VIRUS STAYS….. IT IS SPREAD IN AIR….. THERE IS 2 TYPES OF THIS WEAPON…. 1 IS BACTERIA THAT STAYS LIVES IN COLD CLIMATE WINTER….. AND THEN THE MOST DEADLY 1 IS THE BACTERIA THAT STAYS IN WARM WEATHER….. FAR MORE DEADLY THEN CORONAVIRUS….. THAT IS THE MOST DEADLY WEAPON….. IMAGINE IN JUST 1 WEEK ALL OF 1000 SQUARE MILE CITY IS INFECTED WITH NO MEDICINE TO CURE IT…..

We continue to lavish money and brainpower on ever more sinister and effective instruments of death. Thankfully there is no way this can ever go wrong. 😲

  26. MA BO on November 22, 2021 at 10:43 am

Sad to say these weapon system sales will only escalate as its all good business for manufacturers and the elites investment in such business. Getting into the ‘wrong’ hands is only a matter of time. When the terrorist gets the nukes or this hi-tech its disaster. Clever eapons technologies devised in the west willsure destroy the west one day. Greed and pride !

  27. Kiran Talla on November 22, 2021 at 10:43 am

Who ever uses autonomous weapons, will be totally accountable for any issues arising from these weapons.

  28. Lionz Grrr on November 22, 2021 at 10:45 am

Yaaay!More ways to wage war and kill people.Seriously, when are weapons manufacturers, the rich one procenters and politicians going to the battlefields snd kill each other off so the rest of the planet can live in peace and harmony?

  39. Tem Clayton on November 22, 2021 at 10:53 am

Wonder why there’s a truck driver shortage and pilot shortage? It’s because truck drivers and pilots are quitting because of automation and the danger they present on a daily basis. If there’s so much of a threat that people are quitting their jobs over it imagine the when they make mistakes in warfare and wipe out entire populations?

You talk about a.i is the future, but to cripple a system you need to penetrate things like the target’s virtual environtment system detection, its like building a book chasing after a variable with trial an error😊

  44. Jon Dyson on November 22, 2021 at 10:59 am

China would never adhere to a ban. Their military has already said they will use banned weapons if they felt it gave them an edge. Banning weapons is wishful thinking unfortunately. When nation states are fighting for survival they will commit any crime required and simply apologize after the war.
