**CORRECTION: The system I referred to at ~6:16 for recycling up to 3 tonnes of wool and cotton is the (already achieved!) goal for a similar mechanical textile recycling approach, also developed by HKRITA, which operates at an industrial scale at a different location (in a Tai Po factory). I mixed up the two locations when doing research (G2G at The Mills is a smaller scale demonstration of the full upcycling process). Just wanted to correct and clarify this! If you’d like to learn more details about G2G please visit: https://www.garment2garment.com/

There are still a small number of small factories in Hong Kong (HK). Kam Ma Leather Garments Workshop is one of them. Its story truly reflects the so-called Lion Rock’s Spirit.

The two founders, Linda and Raymand – who are now in the late fifties and early sixties – started their apprenticeship in the 1970’s when manufacturing in HK was at its peak.

Though they moved to work in the Mainland in the 1980’s as requested by their bosses, their hearts were and will always be in HK and therefore they decided to come back. In 1990 they established Kam Ma specialising in bespoke leather garments.

Being in the industry for about 40 years, they have handcrafted thousands of bespoke leather garments, leather jackets in particular. Celebrities like Jamie Foxx, Ellen DeGeneres, ex NBA player Shaquille O’Neal, the late Kobe Bryant, Gigi Gustin and some local stars such as Andy Lau, Nicholas Tse, Louis Koo, Gordon Lam, and the like are indirect customers of Kam Ma. Simply put, they have witnessed the ups and downs of the industry and the challenges associated with the changes.

They understand well that they cannot fully rely on the old business model any more – working as original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for the tailor shops in tourist areas in HK, but their hands are tied as they are computer illiterate, not proficient in languages and know little about social media.

Luckily someone helped them on a part-time basis to create their own website, Facebook, Instagram and Youtube channel for them. This allowed Kam Ma’s brand to reach mire people, not just relying on word of mouth to spread awareness.

Other than survival, their ultimate aim is to pass their craftsmanship to willing youths of the next generation to prevent it from vanishing in HK.

Great video. Insightful to see how they started and driven by passion to keep going. With this pandemic, they need support more than ever. Thanks for using your channel to showcase them! The teacups are beautiful 🤩

I loved the unique shops. Nothing like that in the US. Could spend hours in the porcelain shop. A little less commentary and more showing of wares would have been better. Would have loved to see more stores. The stationery store was a pass

I’m pretty sure I watched a video where H&M claimed that g2g was their idea. Alg that they are collaborating together but H&M never clarified 🥲

Do you know where you would go if you died today? Heaven or hell?

Jesus is the ONLY way to heaven (John 14.6). Simply by believing in Jesus and what he did at the cross to pay for all of our sins, past, present and future, you can be guaranteed eternal life. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬. He’s waiting, please don’t delay

Sorry to tell that about the Chinese Famille Rose wares are not supposed to be used for serving food, since those colours are full of lead, all dinning porcelain wares are supposed to pass a level for the safety of dining

This is cool video, showing another side to HK businesses! A lot of the older artisan crafts are disappearing cos of automation and machines being able to produce cheaper goods. But is it just me that its kinda ironic that both interviewees of WomanBoss were guys? 🤔 (they were cute and very passionate about their work though).
