Gatwick : Is this the drone that caused the chaos? – BBC News

Gatwick airport, the UK’s second busiest airport, is still experiencing delays and cancellations after a drone appeared in airspace on Thursday.
The drone operator is still at large and police have said it is possible they are an environmental activist.
This footage, recorded at Gatwick, appears to show a flying object in the airspace.

Journalistic integrity requires headlines that read "this is" not "is this".

So… we are now March 2019 and to date we still have no solid clue of what was there.
The police obviously don’t believe this video shows the drone. Hence, at a time, they said there was no footage of the drone and even questioned if there was even a drone at all. I love how they came with many different and creative explanations since.

By January authorities claimed that it was simply nearby cranes lights.
By February the same authorities changed their explanation to the "disgruntled employee" from the airport theory.

So my question is what are we going to be told next? it was "a weather balloon"? some "chinese lanterns"?
Anyway, I know this story will be left there without explanations and anyone chasing for answers will be ridiculed because at a point he/she will inevitably come to the alien UFO point.

  3. Stu N on August 29, 2022 at 8:22 pm

No….and there’s no evidence in this footage that it was even taken at Gatwick, or when it was taken… News reports suggest up to 67 people reported seeing drones at Gatwick, but in this day and age when everyone carries a mobile, not one of them apparently got a photo or a video…!!…and the only so called evidence in the media comes from from guess who…yes, you guessed it, the BBC or otherwise known as the Bullshite Broadcasting Company… later reports from the police state they had (quote) “drones”, flying over Gatwick to try and find and intercept the supposed ‘drone(s)’ being flown…well, this together with a good understanding of the capabilities of drones, including professional kit, leads me to believe that the whole episode was a complete and utter load of crap…

Now, who could possibly instigate such a thing…and for what purpose would you want to close an airport and prevent landings and takeoffs for almost 36 hours, leaving thousands of passengers in the lurch….how about these theories:

    1) something to prevent a plane landing…well, if a plane wanted to land it could in fact land during daylight, unless the runway was blocked…the absence of airfield ground lighting would not really affect a daytime landing, landing at night, without it, and without any guidance systems being used from ground stations might be lot more difficult, but not impossible… Theory trashed…

    2) an exercise by police and military to test efficiency of response to an alert…hhhmmmm…well, consider this, if one single word slipped out that was the case, which is quite possible…everyone and anyone involved in it would be looking for another job, and we know politicians simply don’t have the balls to sanction such things…so…Theory trashed…

    3) mass hysteria…there was no drone, but someone thought they saw one, so everybody started seeing them… On the balance of probabilities this is possibly the least likely scenario, but you never know how some dumb fuck in an airport management team is going to react to such a report…is it possible with all the technology available at an international airport for spotting flocking birds, ground movements, air movements, and airside staff everywhere, many highly trained and competent people, and pilots, regarded as the most reliable of witnesses, not one of whom reported jack shit, that this Is feasible…no…Theory trashed…

    4) scam by those buying the controlling interest in the airport to ‘devalue’ it and get it for a lower price…on the basis that the shares in the airport would crash following the incident and news reporting of the lack of ability to deal with a ‘drone’ incident…however, the share prices were unaffected as the buying price for controlling interest in the airport was agreed and contracts exchanged before this even took place… Theory trashed

    5) there really was a drone or drones flying over the airport…which is feasible, although there does not appear to be any reliable evidence of this whatsoever…the only solid evidence we have of any drone flights is the police report they they flew drones…so were those spotted by others who then thought they were the rogue drones…and set up a vicious circle…fly drones, see drones, chase drones…but this was apparently, and obviously after the airspace had already been closed… Theory therefore trashed

    6) something else was spotted in the air at the airport, that was reported later to be a drone, as part of a covert cover-up, as it was in fact not a drone at all, it a ufo…it’s feasible, given that there have over the years been numerous events where ufos has been sighted over airports both in the USA, Europe and South America…in almost all cases these flying objects appeared, disappeared, and reappeared, and were in some cases recorded on radar and in most cases observed by air traffic control staff and others on site, and in many cases were recorded on video, in photos and on radar recordings at the time…so far as I am aware, no one from air traffic control has come forward to confirm or denigh seeing drones or anything else, no video or photos have emerged, or any radar evidence been produced of anything in the air near to flightpaths or over the airport itself…which in itself is a bit fishy…usually these people are the first to be interviewed and electronic records of radar and other scanning equipment, as well as airside cameras on the airfield itself looked at…Given the response by police and military, and the absence of evidence of any drone or drones, other than the drones flown by police, and a distinct ‘silence’ from government ministers on the subject, the theory of a ufo and subsequent (well rehearsed) cover up cannot in any way be Trashed…it’s a probability that cannot be ruled out…

    7) terrorists were in control of a plane that they wanted to land at Gatwick and either destroy on the ground or taxi into the airport buildings and blow up…utter rubbish…terrorists would be more likely, given those circumstances to fly the plane into the airport buildings to effect maximum damage and casualties…in fact, had the security services been aware of the fact, they would have, without question shot the aircraft down, in the knowledge that loosing a couple of hundred passengers on one aircraft would be less of a disaster than possible losing many more lives by the Aircraft being allowed to fly into an airport departure/arrival building…this may seem callous but almost every civilised country in the world has the same plan and would not hesitate to shoot the plane down….Theory trashed

    8) air traffic control systems are so out of date and so poorly maintained that they crashed, and the airport had to close…utter and complete rubbish…air traffic control systems were fully operable, and successfully controlled, diverted, and set into holding patterns in the air many aircraft due to land at Gatwick, and maintained control of their airspace throughout the period of the airport closure…this also includes radar and ground radar…used for controlling aircraft in flight within their control sector across southern England, and on the ground for monitoring both aircraft and other vehicle movements on the ground within the airside area… Theory trashed…

So make your own mind up…the one thing I can tell you for certain is this…either there will be absolutely no further reports of anyone being arrested in connection with this, or anything else, or there will be, amazingly, a stash of drones found at a location that police will ‘suspect’ were used in the ‘drone attack’…in the latter case this will most likely be part of a cover-up operation, aimed at covering up something they don’t want you to know about…see (1) to (8) above…!!

I kind of want a drone race now after seeing this. I think it should be an annual event. Every country designs a drone and they race each other. Then you will know who did it. Unless they all long the same, have the same speed and the same life span. Did they manage to get DNA on the drones. Unless they used gloves. I bet it was a message from mars.

Check out this guy in New Zealand, he shows footage of a British police helicopter following a drone until it landed (taking good video as they followed it….) then watched it land and sent cops in a car to pick him and the drone up…….. so the police know how easy it is to follow and catch a drone……. but this time instead they close Gatwick for three days…… lol beyond ridiculous, thank god this country is full of easily distracted sheep, otherwise the police, the press and of course Gatwick airport would have a lot of answers to make and a hell of a lot of compensation to pay out……..
here’s the link to the guy in New Zealand

  34. doctorjet1 on August 29, 2022 at 9:00 pm

Don’t believe this BS for one minute people! A complete cover story for some computer system failure or something local to Gatwick. That is what ruined Christmas and the Gatwick management team are the ones who probably fabricated this whole thing to avoid paying out compensation. The first incident was in the dark was it not? So who the hell can fly a drone in the dark over a notable distance? The only ones I know of are military. They could not catch a non military operator / drone some 12/24hrs after the first time it was spotted? Nobody saw anything suspicious? Complete nonsense folks.

  35. KevinFromNextDoor on August 29, 2022 at 9:00 pm

I can see a blob and the sky. Is this video even at Gatwick Airport?
Is this all you have BBC? Come on, you have supertele objectives and you had 3 days to film or photograph a drone. How can you consider to be taken serious? Why don’t you start and do your job and deliver the true story. There should be hundreds or thousands of proper photos and videos. Where are these?
    This all stinks.

The BBC needs to ask the Sussex Police if this was their drone overflying Gatwick, now that Sussex Police admit their own drones were flying over Gatwick and many "sightings" were of the police drones, not illicit drone activity. If this appears to have been a Sussex Police operated drone, the BBC needs to correct and update this story.

  45. upper cut on August 29, 2022 at 9:13 pm

The question you should be asking yourselves BBC, is how much credibility do you think you have left!? Viewing figures down which makes for a happy new year. Next, maybe the Moronic licence paying lemmings would like to ask for a refund! £500 Million of your fee, to pay Capita & their brain dead thugs, to knock your doors, & demand you produce a piece of worthless paper. Stop paying your Licence, they will try to intimidate & bully you, that’s all they have. If you receive a Court Summons. The first thing you need to do, is contest the Jurisdiction of that Court, because 99.9% of the summons issued are illegally signed. Better yet, have no contact with these Apes, don’t answer the door, don’t reply to their child like letters. Fk the BBC Paedo protectors.

  46. WinstonWinkleman on August 29, 2022 at 9:13 pm

Staff at Gatwick had a planned walk out that day (protest), so instead of having to fork out to put all Gatwick customers in accommodation etc.. they just made up some bullshit story such as a drone flying around to avoid having to pay compensate to all those customers. Saved the airport millions.
