Flying FPV Drones with Avegant Glyph Retinal Headset

Avegant’s Glyph was conceived of as a way to watch movies and play games in a head-mounted display, but its more interesting use is as a FPV viewer for camera-equipped drones. We check out the final production version of the Glyph and test it with the DJI Phantom 3 and Inspire 1 with head-tracking.

Just ran across these and am trying to learn more about them. The tech seems incredible. Have you guys thought of an over-the-ears version without the massive hot/sweaty headphones?

Glad to see I’m not the only one who owns a Glyph lol ps they are incredibly cool. I also fly drones and other RC of all shapes sizes and was just looking into the adaptor for the phantom or some other way to hook up the hdmi with the Glyph. Ps I’ve experimented with using it with an intel compustick(mini hdmi computer dongle/stick) and both powered can be powered or charged from a pocket or backpack USB powerbank.

Massive light leak = not good. And it does make the wearer look an idiot that doesn’t know how to use headphones.

The Audio capabilty of the GLYPH is very ordinary. Why not enable in-ear headphones with better sound?

  22. stephen strassen on October 28, 2020 at 1:47 pm

So what about sun light or super sunny days? Seems like that is a problem with how much isn’t covered over the eyes? He said you can see around you still the controller etc… but that means a lot of light.

  25. The DJI Man Tony on October 28, 2020 at 1:51 pm

if you have a tablet with hdmi out get adapter from amazon mini or micro works well with phantom no need to mess with controller

This is old school technology, It’s the head tracker 7 years ago that was on hobby king. x-y orientation head tracker. Nothing new.

Hello everyone!! I need help, I have a big problem!
I am newbie in this of drones and I have recently acquired a PHANTOM 4 and a GLYPH of avegant. I am going crazy to have image in them .
Installed the HDMI module from the receiver of the phantom and have tested with the cable "Afunta Mini HDMI to HDMI Adapter" to change HDMI of the glyph to mini HDMI
of the module. What occurs is that I can see the OSD in them glasses, but not send image to the camera, also at the time that it connect disappears the image also from the mobile and is loses the connection with the drone by the program DJI GO.
I donΒ΄t know if my phone is the problem (an LG E-975) which cannot MHL protocol , Or maybe that not connected the module hdmi correctly
I,m very desperate after having spent so much money to fly FPV
    thank you for anticipate
    sorry for my english

price point is at 600 nice one

  45. Michael Duncan on October 28, 2020 at 2:17 pm

Probably cant use these with the Mavic!!

  46. Tom Slaymaker on October 28, 2020 at 2:17 pm

nice but most drone don’t use hdmi without a huge lag. really they should make a camera easy to use that has a low latency. i hope they push to develop the camera as well. it would work perfectly for cinematography though. great video very informative.

  47. Hotwire on October 28, 2020 at 2:17 pm

Personal peripheral vision is not an advantage for FPV . Its an Avatar experience!, you need to be in the camera.
If you fly baby wheels mode it will work but you will get bored fast.

  48. Nicklas Edlander on October 28, 2020 at 2:18 pm

It should have stereo camera see-through mode. Switch fast to reality from the movie. Night vision n shit.

  49. Miami Eyes ME on October 28, 2020 at 2:20 pm

It is compatible with the new Mavic Pro ?
