Flying a Drone in Zion National Park?
Flying a Drone in Zion National Park?
May 23, 2017
Daily Vlog Episode 118
VanLife Day 65
Woke up early to get some Van Life shots and took off to Zion National Park. Hiked the Weeping Rock trail with my mom and did the Hidden Canyon trail by myself in under an hour where a couple was illegaly, unknowingly, flying a drone in Zion National Park. What!?
Government websites are tough to navigate. That’s why I created the link below if you’d like to comment on whether or not you think 27 National Monuments should stay National Monuments, be downsized, or be thrown away.

If you got this far. You’re rad. Up top! *high five*
Is that guy at the beginning for real?
Karen at it again
Burns me up to watch these videos because I was doing this stuff long before it was popular. I drove across America twice just shooting photos and videos of all kinds of stuff. Too bad it was before HD cameras.
Yup, we did #Zion aeons ago… loved it! Gnarly trail edges there bro!
the few windows through that tunnel are super cool
He needs to mind his own business and don’t tell ppl wat can or cannot do
Outstanding vlog, views, music etc. Zion is my second favorite National Park, after Yosemite. The Colorado Plateau is spectacular!
Donโt do that as a film and drive
Nice job not being an a$$ about the drone. Wish they had designated spots for drone usage ๐
Glad your Mom was happy y’all "got to do the rock slide"! Awesome! I have to remember Hidden Canyon that next time I’m in Zion, wanted to do Angels Landing last time but didn’t have the time, would have done Hidden Canyon had I known.
Wow, that dude at the first was a busy body. FYI, it is a park regulation and not an faa regulation.
Hidden Canyon is my all time favorite trail in the park!
The NPS rule is wrong. The rule was interim and was made back in 2014.
By federal law, the FAA controls airspace and not the NPS. This is why the park service can only ban the take of and landing of drones from NPS. My issue is the interim (AKA temporary) ban was made in 2014 and the NPS has made no effort to readdress this subject. No studies or public forums. You have to also remember that the NPS manages more than just National Parks. They manage almost 500 other lands – with only 59 being consider national parks. Where I live Lake Mead National RECREATION Center falls under NPS and has banned drones. Laked Mead National Recreation Center is NOT A NATIONAL PARK. By law, in congressional mandated recreational parks you are allowed to do "recreational activities" such as ski/racing boats, off road, fishing, hunting, etc. That recreation center covers almost stretches the entire southern border between Arizona and Nevada.
My opinion if NPS had their way, they would ban people from parks under the same justification they banned drones. This agency is too big for its own good.

I am so sad to see all drone footage at National Parks. No one seems to care about the NPS rules ๐ Thanks a lot for at least trying to warn people.
Man,..you seriously need to get a camera stabilizer. The whole time you ran down that path, my eyes couldn’t focus on anything, and trying to made me nauseated, and most of this video was like that. You can get a decent stabilizer for about $130. dollars. โฎ โ
