Flying A DJI Drone At An AirPort – What Happens?

Flying A DJI Drone At An AirPort – What Happens?

While I was waiting at the cell phone lot for a buddy to land I decided to make this little reminder to not be a dummy and fly your drone at an airport or near aircraft.

DJI drones normally can not even activate near major airports so I captured the screen to show you what happens when you try.

Fly Smart.

Handshake: Thanks for the information and heads up common sense for the hobby. We all need to be Embassordors for the Hobby!

Need to get a Yeti Hoddie. I have the Drone Skull Hoddie, and Yeti face masks.

Fly Fun Fly Safe Just Fly and be smart about it.

  2. T 25 on August 11, 2021 at 9:49 pm

This is why you want to have a “dumb” drone

It’s like having a HAM radio at your house instead of a cell phone…
“They” can cut off your drone or cell phone performance at will

  3. Gerry M. on August 11, 2021 at 9:51 pm

The problem with common sense is that it’s not all that common.

  4. JOE Blalock on August 11, 2021 at 9:56 pm

Preach it, Sean Ozz! If you’re new to the hobby don’t be that guy, that spoils it for the rest of us.

  5. unitoone on August 11, 2021 at 9:59 pm

lol, that wing hit video is so fake.
But yes, something like this could happen.
    Fly safe, fly smart!

  6. Mule Crusher on August 11, 2021 at 9:59 pm

When I forget to import the liscene to my drone when I fly into the altitude zone part after launching from outside that, the drone just stops like it hit a invisible wall.. I can turn around and head back though. Not sure if that is the same thing that happens when trying to fly into a completly restricted zone(red) im on the mini 2. maybe it can fly more places than the air ?

  7. Michael Blade Fpv on August 11, 2021 at 10:00 pm

You know we really need more videos out there like this especially since there are a lot of new pilots with these new drones that came out

  8. Infarlock on August 11, 2021 at 10:03 pm

Lots of these rules exist because of some idiots who just can’t take control of themselves, take off near airports or fly like crazy next to people.
For some people this is not common sense, you legit have to put common sense into them

  9. Windswept Robert on August 11, 2021 at 10:06 pm

Video absolutely not a waste of time. There are so many people out there who can buy a drone and fly a drone, but who don’t have the common sense to know where to fly. I just hope that this video reaches some of those people!

  10. Arnaud Semelet on August 11, 2021 at 10:06 pm

But how can you fly if your an experimented drone pilot, ask for permission to the airport (small airport with a day that no aircraft fly) and they gave permission, can you fly? And if not what should you do?

  11. Jeepin' and Photography on August 11, 2021 at 10:06 pm

    Good reminder Sean.

Between Moab Utah and south of Bullhead/Laughlin on the Colorad River, which includes the Grand Canyon, it’s a no-fly zone for drones which is really sad because it’s some of the most beautiful and scenic areas of the USA. This ban in National Parks and Wilderness Areas is due to people being stupid with drones around people and animals. As usual a few ruined it for the many. We need to police ourselves and let people know when they are doing something they shouldn’t be with their drone now that it has gone full mainstream or we will lose more freedom going forward.

  12. David Bleasby on August 11, 2021 at 10:06 pm

Thanks Sean !!! I’ve witnessed some idiot drone pilots, so I hope this might sink in to at least some of them

  13. Peter H on August 11, 2021 at 10:08 pm

Unfortunately there are a few "dummies" out there. I think all drone manufacturers should incorporate Geofencing in all their products.

  14. Eric Trippe on August 11, 2021 at 10:11 pm

Looks like 1/2 of your dog’s hair is on your shirt…Haha!

  15. SO-IL Aerial (Crop Dustin Gabel) on August 11, 2021 at 10:12 pm

Great video, hopefully everyone that owns a drone watches this and thinks. It’s totally true, just because you can doesnt mean you should. I live close to Scott AFB and would love nothing more than to catch on video some of the awesome military aircraft that take off from there, but that’s just not an option. You crash a drone into a helicopter, hit the rotor shaft and cause it to crash…that’s 3 people that don’t get to go home at the end of the day due to a stupid decision. Drone pilots, think before you fly!

  16. eduar ed on August 11, 2021 at 10:14 pm

Nice video bro!..thanks owning an air 2s…about to take this beast on vacation

  17. Magic Smoke FPV on August 11, 2021 at 10:16 pm

0:30 Aw come on… it looks like a shit spot to fly lol, it’s an empty parking lot. I don’t know about you guys, but I like trees and bridges and bandos to fly, not empty fields. But yeah, I could someone trying to fly a wing or a plane there LOS maybe if jets weren’t taking off haha!

  18. drone phoenix on August 11, 2021 at 10:18 pm

Yep it is so sad that there is alot of stupid people out there . Great content as always.

  19. SC Aerials - Steve Carpenter on August 11, 2021 at 10:19 pm

Howdy Sean. Now, this was an excellent public service announcement! Yes, we have more and more newbie drone owner that need to be educated on how to fly safely. Nicely done, Sir, and this was NOT a waste of time!

  20. Richard C on August 11, 2021 at 10:21 pm

Great video, as you say it’s only common knowledge if you know. The amount of questions that get asked on some fb groups you want to answer back and say should you even be flying a drone. It never hurts to put out as much safety info as possible because one day it may just save someone’s life. 🤜🤛

  21. scott nadeau on August 11, 2021 at 10:21 pm

what a great video thank you

  22. Mc on August 11, 2021 at 10:25 pm

Download ‘flight radar 24’ app & you see helicopter & any types of aircrafts movements. Also you see their route by tapping on each craft. Some dont show any route which mainly are emergency choppers or traning propeller-driven airplane. Almost in all cases you see their speed & altitude live.
Act safe & just behave as your family & loved ones are in that aircraft cuz someone’s is.

  23. Ray Hollands on August 11, 2021 at 10:27 pm

    Hi Sean.
This restricted air spaces should be used by all drone manufacturers. That way, drones couldn’t be easily used as a scapegoat by the press and numb-skulls would move on to plague another hobby!

  24. World of Ozz on August 11, 2021 at 10:30 pm

I hate to be that guy that preaches but this is just a friendly reminder to be safe when you fly and think about where you are flying.

  25. Family Fun R.C. on August 11, 2021 at 10:30 pm

I think it’s bullshit that you can’t fly your drone. 5 miles away. They should give height restrictions. Like no more then 30ft. You know a plane would not be flying that low 5 miles away. Or even 2 miles away.

  26. Coast to Coast Drones' on August 11, 2021 at 10:36 pm

I live within 5 miles of a small international airport …I fly all the time. I use LAANC !!

2:34 Also, this is bullshit. It’s an ad for a VFX effects company.

  30. Cade Foster on August 11, 2021 at 10:43 pm

I don’t plan on flying a drone near and airport. I’m new to droning. And I didn’t know they had this kinda technology in the first place. I guess if you never owned a drone before, you won’t know this kinda technology existed , that they can control your drone. So Kool. 😂

  31. Mule Crusher on August 11, 2021 at 10:44 pm

I fly within like half a mile of an airport or closer, a pretty decent sized one. like every day.. I was told by the guy that works there one time along time ago, that they didn’t care as long as I stay not much higher than the tallest tree around me. because there is no way a plane of any kind would be flying that low. so I stay at or under 100 feet up, because the tallest tree top around me is like, 75 feet. . I have gotten kinda a weird feeling seeing planes flying over my head at what looks like 400 feet.. sometimes lower…. should I just stop flying at my own house all together ? or just fly and be safe, stay low. ? air planes do pass directly over my back yard alot, yikes 😀 one time a jet fighter flew right over me and circled around my yard a few times, after several other planes had, "buzzed" me.. I got really scared and went inside, nothing ever happened though. no phone calls, or knocks on my door. Dji lets me take off here so I should be fine right ? just stay low? or am I way wrong about this and risking some serious jail time ?

Thanks, can you fly over a police station in the US. I know military installations are no-go but what about a cops’ station (no hover but just fly over it and contimue
