I had the same issue the H720E I have worked perfectly fine for the 10 times I flew it but one day I turned it on to fly it and it went up and just started to go to the left and crashed but was physically fine. I wasn’t unable to cut off the power with kill switch. If anyone has more information about this issues plz let me know

Got my HS720E and charged it up, read the manual, then performed calibration/gyro. First time out, it did the same thing in my yard, veered violently to the left, and almost crashed. Then, about 5 minutes later, I got close the curb/street interface and it lost control (wouldn’t rotate, would only go forward and backward). In this state, it lost control again and crashed, breaking the rear right arm. I actually epoxied it successfully, then took it out again and the same thing happening. Both times it crashed, the emergency shut off function didn’t work. Cut my finger on the second time.

Hello from across the pond!! I have the HS120D and my first flight it took off and chased my wife and drilled her fin the back of the legs… ( I thought this was extremley funny…She didn’t lol) After learning more this issue was because it lost GPS… Before you fly, check and make sure you have good GPS Signal before you launch it. GPS is what makes it hover in one spot. Once I’ve checked and made certain I have GPS before take off, i haven’t had an issue since. As for HS customer service, they are awesome!! I’ve been thinking about upgrading to the 720E which is what brought me to your channel. Excellent videos and thanks for posting!

Loved the drone. However the last time I flew it I brought it to maximum height and was out at approx. 5-600 yards preparing to film high rise apartment buildings on Austin Tx.
I did not have the camera on yet but had done all necessary calibrations as directed. The battery was at full charge. As the drone approached the high rise building at max. height and at aprox. 5-600 yards from the controller, my controller suddenly showed the drone to be out of range as indicated by “no bars” on either side of the screen. The drone immediately and violently lost height and veered to the right as it fell. The “return to home” function failed and the drone was lost. I absolutely did not impact with any obstacles prior to the drone losing power. It probably crashed on top of one of the high rise buildings or on the sidewalk below. The GPS was lost immediately I assume as a result of a violent crash and the controller has no record of the flight at all. This was not the first time this has happened but the previous time the drone recovered after losing a considerable amount of altitude with no buildings around. I bought this 720e from a pawn shop so Holy Stone is telling me there is nothing they can do.

This sounds like a controller calibration issue. I had something similar happen to me but it was because I had failed to cycle both of the toggles down and to the left before lifting off. It was not responding to my directions from the controller from the start. Realizing something was very wrong, I hit "return to home" and upon landing started the entire calibration process again…this time making sure to calibrate the controller. I put it up in the air and have never had another issue since. HolyStone is fantastic though with customer service and that is huge!

I have the exact same drone and this happened to me on the second attempt to fly the drone. When it panned left uncontrollably, I quickly landed the drone safely and recalibrate it before trying it again. Unfortunately, the subsequent time I flew it, it continued to pan left and crashed , breaking a rear arm. I contacted Holystone and told them about it but they mentioned that their drone quality is good and only sent me a replacement arm instead of a new drone which I request. Can some one please help me ? I hope not to spend extra money fixing the drone arm and still have the same problem when it flies 🙁

After researching so many drones, I decided to purchase my first drone from Holystone the 720E, after reading and looking at YouTube videos, I decided to take my drone to a local park were I calibrate, turned GPS ON. I had 13 satellites before I took off. When I pressed the button for pre flight, then lift off to 4ft, IT would not go in the air until the 4th time. When it finally got in the air I had no control, drone shot up to 30 feet and came crashing down. At that point I figured it was the transmitter. I reached out to Holystone via email, I told them what happened in addition to the hard landing, the sent me replacement arm because it gotten damaged from that hard landing. Never flew the drone since until last weekend 7weeks later. Took my drone out to the same park, my drone shot up to 40 ft, swaying from left to right, at this point my drone is out of control not responding To NO commands. The whole time I hit the home button nothing happen. My battery went from full to empty in a matter of minutes, my drone came crashing down and now the drone is a paper weight. I reached out to Holystone, they asked me to make a video flying, HELLO,!!!! it does not work. I’m waiting for them to respond to my last email.

I saw in another video that if you use tripod mode( no idea where that is, I’m still waiting on my drone to arrive), the panning also becomes smoth. Check that out for cinematic shots. Good content btw.

A great and helpful video – thank you.
I received my brand new HS720E yesterday and after fully charging the batteries overnight, I was ready to fly this morning.
    What a disaster!
I followed the calibration instructions and all seemed well. I placed the drone on a flat even surface and with 11 GPS satellites showing on the controler, I pressed the one click take off button. The drone lefted to about 6 feet but then drifted off to the left. I brought it back under control eventually and landed it. I thought maybe I had not calibrated it correctly so I went throught the procedure again. This time when I pressed the one click take off button, the drone lefted again to around 6 feet, but this time it very quickly veered off to the right. I quickly pressed lock button but although just a few feet away from me, it failed to stop or change its course. The joysticks had no effect and the drone crashed heavily into a shed, whereupon I found it still whiring away on the ground, but with one rotor arm snapped in two. I tried to shut off the motors with the lock button but it was ineffective and still kept spinning at full speed. I couldn’t turn the thing off. I feared more damage so made an attempt to pick it up so I could remove the battery but one of the rotors caught my fingers and cut me to ribbons.
Can’t see what I could have done wrong but open to suggestions? I’m more than inclined, especially after watching your video and reading comments below that I have a faulty drone. I have conteacted Holy Stone but not heard back yet…
    Thanks again 2Cat.

What do you need to do to reconnect after you’ve lost signal?

  11. Fred Sandford on March 21, 2021 at 12:28 am

Hey did you ever find out why the battery failed?

  12. Vilo Shmillo on March 21, 2021 at 12:29 am

I just bought one. Not sure what’s going on but my batteries were showing 3 bars out of four. 10 seconds after takeoff it goes red and says battery too low and lands itself. If the battery is truly low, I’m not sure why it shows three bars. I will try to charge them over night and see what happens. Thanks for the review.

  14. Wayne Bradish on March 21, 2021 at 12:34 am

Did you calibrate the gyro on the drone? I understand this is not in the instructions. Turn the drone and the controller on, then pull both levers down into the left.
Also holding it down into the right does something too I can’t remember what. I saw this on a captain drone video. He has some great views on this drone. And he understands what software is used on the controller. And as this is why he knows about the gyro calibration that is not mentioned in the manual.

I too had the same runaway syndrome. I had a 720hd model. After a perfect flight I landed it swaped battery for a fresh one. Re calibrated and took off. Drone went crazy and kill switch didnt work. Ended up hitting a tree branch crashing breaking off one of the motor arms.

Thank you for the video, very informative. Question is it normal to have a tiny wire sticking out of the lower left side under one of the arms? It’s about 1/4 " in length. Thank You!

My main con is battery charger, it is very slow and design looks like done by some highschool kid. Other main is microSD card slot is right below front leg, and if you have lil fat finger , it is very difficult to pull. I have average finger and I had to use twizzer to pull it out.

  21. Charlie Kyte on March 21, 2021 at 12:40 am

Similar thing for me too. I had my 720e for about 4 weeks. Completed about 12 flights of different length. And though by no means an expert pilot I was beginning to feel confident. On 26th January I took the drone out for a flight to film a local church from the air. The first flight was successful, went through the pre flight calibration process. No issues. I wanted to film the other end of the church but didn’t want to loose sight of the drone so I moved location. The drone took off successfully got to about 15m up then started to veer to the left. It would not respond to the controller so I pressed RTH. It partially responded but didn’t come all the way back. I somehow managed to regain control and land it. I then moved to a new location a few miles away. I recalibrated the drone and put in a fresh battery. Again the first flight was successful no issues. I decided to do one more flight. The drone behaved as expected. It was a short flight. Then on landing the drone veered off to its left and crashed. The crash broke the left rear arm.
I contacted Holy Stone. They sent me new arm which I am about to attempt to fit.

Hello, and thanks for this video. My HS720 crashed a couple of days ago, and damaged a parked car! Full battery, calibration was done correctly, and windless flying conditions. After lifting off and taking it up to about 15 feet, I pressed the RTH button to test all was well. It was not. The drone rose quickly to perhaps 25 or 30 feet and started circling. I tried to regain control, but nothing worked, and the app indicated connection was lost. The circling was clockwise but not in a circle, more oval-shaped. It got wider and wider, crossing the field, and hit a tree in a private garden. Fell down onto a barn roof, and then bounced into a parked BMW. Like you, the emergency cutoff did not work, and the blades stung me.

This was the second (but worst) incident. The first was a few days prior when the drone suddenly flew higher but on that occasion, hovered safely and the connection was re-established, and I used RTH immediately, and successfully.

We have no nearby mobile phone towers or any other kind of radio interference I am aware of, as we are quite rural.

I have requested a return from Amazon, but also wrote to Holy Stone about the problem. They have asked me to hold on the return, offering to organise a replacement. Their email also specifically admitted the app has issues and that their technicians were working flat out on a solution.

I am not sure if I want the replacement (or even the upgraded 720e) because I am not confident the app and controller will malfunction again. I also have to pay for the small dents on my neighbour’s’ car. Thankfully he has been gracious about it all. Makes me wonder about insurance requirements, not just CAA certification! Do I just get my refund, and save for the extra to get something better? Right now, I am not too sure. I’d like to give Holy Stone the opportunity to make things right and get their app finally sorted, but I am nervous.

Thanks for your videos, they have been really helpful to a drone newbie.

My 720E became difficult to control. It started heading toward a tree and would not respond well to reverse stick. I tried to increase altitude to clear it but too late. Hit branch and tumbled to ground running full throttle; 2 blades were jammed by grass, 2 still running.. tried kill switch on controller to no avail. So I carefully grabbed it and pushed drone on/off; nothing. Tried pushing quick, tried holding down; nothing. When I tried to pull battery I got a blade strike on my finger and cut pretty deep. Had fresh controller batts and 10 satellites when I launched. This unit is getting returned but now leery of Holystone after seeing other complaints.

I have a strange question, the optical flow sensor, if you hold the drone in your hand from underneath and power up the drone, would that cause issues as the drone wouldn’t be receiving correct information from the ground as your hand would be in the way. I ask this because my first drone had trouble holding position in the air even after calibration and I’m wondering if the sensor was faulty.

App keeps crashing…today was my first time flying my HS720e i hit the return home button and it came back and passed over where it was supposed to hover and return to the home point but didn’t descend; it kept zooming back and forth till it crashed somewhere…now it is lost…it did about 4 successful RTHs but this last one the drone like it had a mind of its own

  31. Phil Smith on March 21, 2021 at 12:51 am

If you watch my crash video, you will see I experienced a hard left control loss, as you mentioned. I summed it up to running in sport mode at below 3 meters. It warns in the manual that doing so is not recommended. The ground positioning sensor cannot work properly under these conditions. In your case, you mentioned it was dark. In that environment, you need to turn on the ground lights. They are there to aid the ground sensor at low altitude. I did not contact Holy Stone, since I realized my error. I repaired my bird and haven’t had a problem since. Good luck to you.

Yes I’ve had the same problem 2 weeks ago my 720 E it lost it gps shot off to the left and out of control hit a metal building at work and it’s still on the roof I asked work if they could go up on the roof to get it they can not get up there with out a permit and a good reason they said the engineers are coming out to inspect the roof with in the next couple of weeks and they will get it for me so I do not no the damage yet so I’ve just ordered another one ?
I’ve just seen your video and now I am worried ☹️ the reason I bought another one was because fly it a couple of times and was very happy with it 🙂 apart from when it attracted a flock of birds had to bring it down very quickly. 🙈🦅

This is my first drone and I love it. However I have crashed it twice due to being a beginner. The first crash it behaved exactly how you described but after reading the manual I determined that I had improperly calibrated it. I watched a youtube video to learn the calibration and the steps were wrong. ( I should have read the manual first – oops ) Also- Make sure you power it up on a true flat surface or it will surely veer to one side when it flies. ( maybe calibrating on your car was a mistake ) My second crash was because I was in a hurry and didn’t clip the battery in all the way. 80 ft up and it dropped like a rock . Thank god for super glue and epoxy putty – repaired and flying well now. My third dumb mistake was when I accidentally hit the switch on the side of the controller and turned off GPS during flight. It was a windy day and it got lodged in the top of a very tall tree. Had to get a bucket truck to retrieve it. since then I have been very careful with the calibration and it has given me no problems. I have taken some very good videos and pics. I did buy a new charger though – they are not very expensive.
]You are right about the emergency motor shutdown – it doesn’t work. I still love it though –
Very good tech for the price. I think its the best drone out there for beginners. It crashes much cheaper than a DGI.
I fly from a wheelchair – A drone is a great thing to have when you are confined to a chair. I would like to suggest that if you move up to another drone – Please donate your old one to someone in a chair- You will make them very happy

Yep, happened 4 times with me, on third crash one battery was damaged, contacted them through Amazon and told them I will give it another chance. Well it happen again, and like you was cut up in the process, hand, arm knee.. Contacted HS again and they agreed to send a new one, came in last night.. Only tested last night, will be testing again today to see what happens.. I have until Jan 31 to return through Amazon..

  39. Jay Thomas on March 21, 2021 at 12:59 am

I press return home on mine and the drone returned started decending and 4ft from the ground it totally head dived into the ground, I replaced all the blades but now the drone tries to flip forward as if the front motors are not balanced with the rear motors im gutted

  40. Crazybull on March 21, 2021 at 12:59 am

I had a similar issue with it veering off to the side on the second occasion I took it out. It was directly above me on its return to home, little wind plenty of satellites, in a large open field with nothing nearby and it just veered off without me touching the control, luckily it was stopped by a tree. It fell to the ground without serious damage but did eject the battery on impact leading to a successful 2 day hunt for the battery in holly bushes! I did wonder if the problem had been caused by interference from my mobile in my pocket ( I was using the Ophelia on my Amazon Fire). I nervously took it out again and kept my mobile turned off and had no problems with 20 mins flying although I kept it low and didn’t use the RTH function on that occasion. I have to say I’m a bit nervous of it happening again.

yes i agree there is some slow respond from the transmitter i crash my just went to left and crash kind scare to fly it high now

  44. Nick Landry on March 21, 2021 at 1:03 am

The HS720E is a dream to fly and is packed with features usually only found in much more expensive (translation: DJI) quadcopters. However, like any drone, there is a learning curve even if you are an experienced flyer due to nuances with the controller and user interface. Unfortunately, I crashed my HS720E on its maiden flight due to just such an issue. I was despondent when I discovered that the crash had damaged the external antenna. This prevented me from maintaining a consistent link with the controller. I called Holy Stone customer service hoping only to hear that it could be repaired somehow since the crash was obviously my fault. You can imagine how amazed (and very happily so!) I was to hear them tell me that they were giving me a completely new drone! Not only that….THEY DIDN’T EVEN WANT ME TO RETURN THE DAMAGED UNIT TO THEM!! Incredible customer service, really above and beyond. I am a customer for life and recommend Holy Stone drones to everyone!

  46. dale thompson on March 21, 2021 at 1:03 am

  47. John Smekofske on March 21, 2021 at 1:04 am

Sounds like you messed up the calibration process. I dont own this drone but every drone has a specific way of setting it up before flight. It’s a common beginner mistake. Any drone will do this if not set up correctly. From turning on your transmitter to turning on and calibrating, the drone. It needs to be done in a specific order. I believe it is the most important part of a drone, because it is the one thing that can make a drone dangerous. I will also advise people to take good care of your batteries. Dont run them to low, it will damage them. If it says 21 min of flight time I would stop at 15 to 18 min. Damaged batteries will discharge very fast, and can easily cause a crash. Also remember there is a large learning curve to this hobbie. It takes a few months of flying just to get the basics down.

  49. TravelingManEuro on March 21, 2021 at 1:13 am

This problem you had was experienced by me with two HS510’s and an HS700D. They suddenly have a mind of their own and are difficult to bring down and quickly become dangerous to property and the human epidermis. The first HS510 was replaced by the same. The second HS510 was replaced with a HS720e, of which I paid the price difference. I also had the HS700D, which is a very nice drone up until the day it went crazy. I returned it quickly and swore to never buy another HolyStone GPS drone. As for the HS720e, I still have it, but it gave me grief one day when it decided to tilt left and crash into the ground breaking an arm, which I replaced with one sent to me by HolyStone. For this crash, I am going to blame on interference from a nearby mobile tower and large metal fences nearby. To its credit, I have not had a single issue with it since other than the general stability and control issues that come with a budget GPS drone. In other words, do not fly the 720e expecting the performance of a Mavic Mini, which is what anyone should be getting instead of anything sold by HolyStone.

  50. Jfhelwig on March 21, 2021 at 1:15 am

Don’t calibrate it close to anything metal like a car. It causes this issue
