It is like FatShark had no opportunity in the last 7 years to be seen. Strange when people cheer for such move. I didn’t buy FatShark I run Skyzone HDO and source my gear locally (from the UK). To me FatShark was slow and never addressed reviews in their next product for years. To me it was arrogant meanwhile dozens of companies grown from out of nowhere listening the reviews and developing their products on them. What will change with this recent development?

    thanks for the info

Dji are massive and fpv is just a drop in the ocean , in what thay are involved in.
Fatshark have been at the top for a long time until now and are relatively small. I think teaming up is a great idea.
Maybe Fatshark will do something like caddx did with dji

  5. VampCaff on December 7, 2021 at 11:35 am

Another comment section full of misinformation. Great. First off RR is owned by redcat. Second, red cat holdings is defferent than redcat racing.

  6. Noisy _boi_fpv _ on December 7, 2021 at 11:39 am

Fat shark lazy buggers lets face it. I have hdo2 snd still they cut corners there. Lets have change lets have new tech. Change is good man๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œnew tech new tech come on.

My bigger concern is that any relationship between FatShark and DJI could reduce real competition and create a duopoly situation where prices are not as competitive as they might be. I welcome SharkByte to the market because it *does* create competition that "should" place pressure on prices. Let’s hope that isn’t subverted by way of an arrangement of convenience. It’s (hopefully) more likely that we’ll see a stratification of the digital market where DJI takes the high-end and FatShark aims for the middle-ground and legacy (those who’ve already made a big investment in Fatshark goggles) markets. Analog will of course, be bottom tier but still the cheapest option on the block.

Dji goggles sell themselves. Vcr vs. Blu-ray

  9. Whirly Bloke on December 7, 2021 at 11:51 am

Chad Kapper (ex Flight Test and Rotor Riot) is central to this. He’s CMO at Red Cat Holdings so he’s obviously got big plans and is ambitious. I struggle to see how the Red Cat group could ever get the financial backing and resources DJI have and a collaboration is always possible. But maybe Red Cat are banking on trade sanctions and building a ‘Made in USA’ product. After all, the US has funnelled a lot of funds into US drone companies recently. It’s gonna be interesting.

  11. TakeItToTheGround on December 7, 2021 at 11:51 am

I hope they have done there due diligence thoroughly as in the press release they said fatshark have an estimated 85% market share. Occasionally I see someone with a HDO or HDO2 but not 85% of the time. Must have done their market share research in the fatshark factory. That aside red cat seem too small to inject enough R&D money to allow fatshark to compete with DJI. So unless shark byte V2 is a winner in its present form……

  12. Giffy on December 7, 2021 at 11:56 am

I’m sure they’ll take care of FatShark. Just look at how successful DroneBox is. Oh wait, could this actually be a move to control/kill competition?

  13. Steve Beatty on December 7, 2021 at 11:57 am

Excited about digital competition….suspicious however of RR’s intent…hopefully we as consumers are not the short end holders of the deal…The best part of the FS system for me is it won’t interfere with existing analog according to the developers unlike DJI’s 50 mbps FPV community divider…

  14. WONGALAHARA on December 7, 2021 at 12:02 pm

    This is so nuts

  15. Jibba Jabba on December 7, 2021 at 12:04 pm

Who the heck is Red Cat and where do they get their funding to buy up everything?

Seems to me that the guy who owns Fatshark has seen the writing on the wall and got out while the going is good, kudos to him.

  16. AGflyerMJ on December 7, 2021 at 12:04 pm

But how many like me are still subd to RR but have not watched a vid for over 6 months, there content has gone to shit(must unsub). and dont trust redcat

  17. Beefcake FPV on December 7, 2021 at 12:05 pm

My favorite quotes from Red Cat’s site:

"Red Catโ€™s simple and secure blockchain-based black box storage, analytics and services can provide answers. We integrate several separate systems into one easy to use platform. We make drones accountable and the skies a safer place."

"Loved by early adopters, top pilots/beta users (natural Influencers)"

"Partnerships: Low Cost Customer Acquisition (E.G. recent partnership with Rotor Riot)"

    "Per-Drone Monthly Revenue License"

These people are not a friend to the hobby. They intend to make money on regulations. Simple logic dictates that at best, they will not fight regulation, at worse, they will push for it.

  18. J.FINESSE FLIGHTS on December 7, 2021 at 12:08 pm

I hope RR goal is to integrate both FS and DJI together!

  19. hydrojedi on December 7, 2021 at 12:14 pm

Fatshark got a boost from Anthony Hand & Hobbyking way back in 2010/2011ish when Chad produced a commercial (actual tv) for hobbyking…I believe Chad’s son was the boy in the commercial. Chad went on & created Flitetest then Rotor Riot. All these guys have done a lot to promote the hobby . It will be interesting to see where it goes from here. Hopefully DJI doesn’t gobble all them up. Iwish them great success!

  20. maxun1 on December 7, 2021 at 12:15 pm

Only idiots buy a product just because a company like rotor riot advertise, you buy because the quality. DJI is king so far.

  21. Flight Therapy **BullisticFPV** on December 7, 2021 at 12:16 pm

Greaaat, another company in the unimaginative clutches of Chad Kapper ๐Ÿ™„

  22. Politically Homeless on December 7, 2021 at 12:18 pm

This is probably bad for the industry but the hobby has been in decline for several years now.
