Drone VLOG # 5 | Casey Neistat's Illegal Drone Flying

Adam and Jay discuss the drone flying by YouTuber Casey Neistat. Most, if not all of which is illegal in NYC. While we enjoy his film making style and creativity, his drone piloting is sometimes reckless and dangerous. Most of NYC is a “No Fly Zone” due to the many airports, airways and city environment.

At Aeroworks, we promote safety and education for new drone pilots.

Some of the flights by Casey referenced in this video.

  3. Splash FPV on May 15, 2021 at 2:30 am

Good vid. While these clips are nice, eventually they are going to bring more and stricter rules we all have to live with

  4. Alvin on May 15, 2021 at 2:31 am

This drone technology has progressed so fast that the law and regulation are falling behind.

  5. lilchevy401 on May 15, 2021 at 2:32 am

the faa is a bunch of clowns

  6. Greg Wallace on May 15, 2021 at 2:33 am

you just made my mind up. These drones r not even worth fooling with with all the rules u have to follow.

  7. Teelhan8659 on May 15, 2021 at 2:33 am

You guys are absolutely right on all your points. As I get older I’ve learnt everything you guys have said first hand from crashes and RC losses. “Fly safe and have fun”

  8. chris KD2TFJ Luckett on May 15, 2021 at 2:36 am

For one I am on your side I seen Casey in NYC a few times in the past few years and I don’t at all say what he is doing with drones is smart but I have to say I am 36 I been into drones for years and I do understand the need for safety while flying your uav. But I also think that we are moving into a few generation where ppl I’ve seen love to be in or take pics or video in the ways Casey does his videos alot of times I know he would ask a group of people can he fly over them and they would be all for it so they kinda wave the safety thing. He shouldn’t do over highways and major cities though lol that’s a fools move

this video could have been two minutes, instead of repeating the same thing 9 times over and over again.

God I hope he gets put in jail that pos neistat he’s just one reason we hobbyist are being terrorized by our hobby this guy needs to pay a big fine and jail time for loosing sight and crashing into peoples property without a care in the world now with all these regs I don’t fly anymore and all my expensive stuff just sits

  15. james boyle on May 15, 2021 at 2:44 am

    This is pure hate

  17. Tom'sView Photography Adventures on May 15, 2021 at 2:47 am

Adam and Jay… I absolutely agree with your criticisms of Casey Neistat violating laws and just plain common sense when it comes to safety. I love his videos, and I admire his videography, especially with the drones. And you are right, I want to replicate some of his footage although I know very well that I can’t. Your criticism of the FAA can be answered with this. We are all equal under the law, some of us are just more equal than others 😉

  18. Titus Nixon on May 15, 2021 at 2:47 am

You guys are right, I’m trying to do Thing’s the right way. I want my 107part

  19. kanadajin3 on May 15, 2021 at 2:49 am

what is this garbage audio. To me this video is nothing but two people complaining about someone. How do you know hes flying illegally? Just because theres airports does not mean that hes flying in controlled airspace. And its so easy to get permission to even fly in a controlled airspace. In Canada you can get a advanced operations licence to fly above people, and in Japan you are allowed to do pretty much anything in the fly zones. In many countries you are allowed to fly above people, cars and city as long as you know what you are doing.

  21. Osias Mainville on May 15, 2021 at 2:49 am

2:18 What I’m seeing here is that he’s not following (your) rules and I say (your) rules, you’re recommending I don’t think that casey needs to listen to (your) rules. And I also see jealousy 1:33 2:41 you sound like a karen

  22. Nicholas Rothfus on May 15, 2021 at 2:51 am

We should worry about ourselves now men. Unfortunately Faa laws don’t sell product and showing the extreme limits they can be pushed to is what people want not solely safety videos. Your like the Carole Baskin of drones lol

  23. 101Supercritic on May 15, 2021 at 2:54 am

I see where you’re coming from, but, seeing that Casey has been doing this for a while, as well as targetting isolated incidents, I think that you guys are blowing this a tad out of proportion. Although he has been flying around crowds, these frequencies that would have interfered with the drone as we can see have not affected anything. Electrical Engineer myself, and although the speculations of having frequency interference with the GPS sounds highly, they do not seem to matter as we have seen countless times in his videos, as well as other creators’ videos.

On the safety side of things, I’m pretty sure that there are more chances of getting hit with a stray bullet than with Casey’s drone.

  24. Grants Pass TV Repair on May 15, 2021 at 2:57 am

Considering that every year many thousands of people are injured or die in automobile accidents, it seems odd that flying a drone is so highly regulated, and yet driving my vehicle down a narrow Two lane road at high speeds with opposing traffic is legal.

Stranger still is that the hobbyist can fly without a license, and the guy who makes money with his drone, and is more likely to know what he is doing needs to be licensed.

  25. greek on May 15, 2021 at 2:58 am

Great vid u guys deserve at leat 1m subscribers.

  26. jbrunson1949 on May 15, 2021 at 2:58 am

WOW ,, I never have watched any of his stuff,, I am mainly, what you would call a hobbyist ,, been flying R/C planes for over 40 years, and building them all myself, after a few trainers,,, Now the FAA has got into this so much with the drones ,, I am about ready to throw in the towel,, BUT WHAT BURNS ME is HOW this guy is getting away with doing all this illegally and the FAA is just ignoring him,,, HOW IS HE GETTING AWAY WITH THIS?????

  27. Austin on May 15, 2021 at 2:59 am

Shut up. You guys sound jealous and whiney.

  28. James M on May 15, 2021 at 2:59 am

I just had my first encounter with the local police flying my DJI Mavic Pro. Apparently, somebody flew a drone over the hospital and I was on the other side of the city in legal airspace and they saw my strobes on my drone and came and paid me a visit. The police kind of figured out it wasn’t me, but they did take my name and my registration number and told me I shouldn’t be flying at night and I told them as a hobbyist I can fly at night as I have proper lighting on my aircraft.

  29. Shawn Saunders on May 15, 2021 at 3:01 am

    This is ridiculous lol..

  30. Jun Ren Ong on May 15, 2021 at 3:04 am

I agree in the safety of Drones, although I can’t afford one, but really dji should included more no fly zones system in their app or software….. even in Penang a tiny island in Malaysia, you can’t even take off MANUALLY a Mavic PRO half a kilometer from the airport as it been automatically "avoid" you from flying in those areas. DJI of course, been thinking of emergency scenarios, as a engine failure occurs it will just calibrated the whole thing, a find a suitable spot for landing, as computers linked to the ECU could safely land the drone

  31. PsychoStudio on May 15, 2021 at 3:04 am

I totally agree with Mr. Adam and Mr. Jay. I’m from poland, mostly shooting from ground, but also making from time to time some aerial shots. Regulations are clear "you got license, permission, stick to the flying ULC rules" and everything is fine. I saw pilots around my city doing shits like Mr. Casey. When i asked them to fly more responsibly they just laphed and look at me like im an totally idiot.

  32. Patrick Guerrisi on May 15, 2021 at 3:05 am

he can probably afford to pay the fines

  33. Shawn Dufresne on May 15, 2021 at 3:05 am

I think they are jealous !!! They fly their drones over people , that could crash and could hit someone !! Everybody is a newbie they had to start somewhere.

  34. Dan Reilly on May 15, 2021 at 3:06 am

drones are for outlaws, not for old dorks.

  35. dr07828 on May 15, 2021 at 3:09 am

How do you know he is not part 107? How do you know he didn’t have Tower clearance. You can also fly over people if they are a part of what is going on. In other words, if he is shooting a vid, and all the people are aware and in the vid, that is okay. Sounds to me like you are just jealous… Don’t get me wrong.. I think we should be safe, and Casey should be telling people to be safe.

  36. Brian Smith on May 15, 2021 at 3:10 am

Casey could be reviewing q tips if your getting millions of views some Karen is going to call the authorities

  37. matthewhdr on May 15, 2021 at 3:10 am

What Casey does is cool. Its hard to make great videos with all the safety regulations.

  38. Patrick Guerrisi on May 15, 2021 at 3:14 am

  41. Jeremiah True on May 15, 2021 at 3:20 am

I took and passed my P107 license test last month and watching what Casey does is really disturbing. He is a great filmmaker but this needs to be reigned in.

  42. Pedro Gorilla on May 15, 2021 at 3:22 am

You guys are right. Don’t listen to the Casey’s fanboys and haters.

  46. Dan S Lewin on May 15, 2021 at 3:22 am

Why does it seem like drone are more regulated than firearms or automobiles?

  47. Frosty Snowman on May 15, 2021 at 3:23 am

The FAA is another government entity that oversteps its bounds and violates our reasonable rights.

Why should I have to contact the airport if I’m flying well below 100ft AGL within 2 miles in my backyard? How about if just 10 feet above my roof-line?

Why can a mouth breather get a driver’s license and operate a 4,000lb mass of metal that can travel 60mph+ and nobody bats an eye? What about motorcycles? Why are drones suddenly treated as one of the four horseman of the apocalypse?

You come off very elitist when talking about the laws. Yes, they are laws. But that doesn’t mean they’re all absolutely necessary nor sensible.

  48. Ethan1234 on May 15, 2021 at 3:23 am

Casey is an awesome drone flyer, takes very good pictures and videos, but your right

  49. MavicMiniPilot on May 15, 2021 at 3:24 am

Don’t worry about what Casey is doing worry about how you fly

  50. Hoß on May 15, 2021 at 3:25 am

It’s not dji’s job to stop Casey from doing this. Their trying to promote and get younger pilots. Yes I agree Casey has Brocken many rules but it’s the faa’s job.
