Drone Hits LAPD Helicopter- This Is Why You Should Follow Recreational Drone Rules!
Hey, Remote Pilot 101- a bit of a somber episode today from Brennon of Dronr Tech as he wants to touch on the seriousness of following the recreational drone rules that have been set out for our community. Even those of us with our Part 107 licenses are beholden to these rules when we don’t fly commercially, so they’re important to know.
Unfortunately, there was an incident in his own backyard where a drone pilot flying at night hit a police helicopter and he now faces federal charges. Know the rules and follow them because we want to make sure drones are fun, safe, and easy to use for a long time to come.

Minor correction, recreational operators CAN fly at night as long as they have an anti-collision light. And part 107 commercial operators will soon also be able to with some restrictions and rules that were an announced along with Remote Id.
Yikes ~. Hell, I just flew my first ever flight on my first ever drone DJI mini2 yesterday. For that flight, I had a book to log the flight- Got the authorization on Kitty hawk, and followed every freaking rule because of all this crap people are pulling. Even though I will never monetize my channel I have an appointment in a few weeks to take part107. Oh, yea I am in my 50’s, So a lot to lose if the faa comes looking for me.
Thank you for the update .
Yep people like this ruining it for everybody else. I don’t have any empathy for him. His actions effect me.
Thank you for reporting on this I am shopping for my first drone and I learned a lot just from this video
Thanks for the information
Clicked on this thinking "Again", nope it’s from over a month ago ( https://news.sky.com/story/man-charged-after-crashing-drone-into-la-police-helicopter-in-us-legal-first-12137746 ) with the event happening in September not "The other day".
Every pack of cigs has a warning. Why dont drones? This would be an easy case to defend.
Just watch YouTube people breaking rules all the time.
Oh dear… one careless mistake, but I lost count of the number of offences – eight or more? This is why videos like yours are so important. Thank God nobody was hurt.
"The other day"? This happened months ago… Yikes, old news, trying to do sensational! Also, you can fly recreational pilots in controlled airspace with LAANC approval. Where do you get your information?!?! Aren’t you supposed to represent a prep school.
This video could not keep my attention. Come on man!
No fly at nigth??? Yes you can as Recreational fly with anti collision ligth
And this is why we have so many rules because of people like this. Know and follow the rules.
The other day???? This happened in November
I hope new flyers will follow the rules or its gonna make it hell on all of us who do FOLLOW the rules and conduct safe flights
It appears they are trying to legislate out recreational drone flying in order to pave the way for commercial interest. If this new law passes I’ll be selling mine and giving up the hobby.
Howdy B hope you had a fantastic Christmas i myself was very scared to fly until i got my 107 4years ago. Safety is the most important thing to me I don’t think people should be doing range test i see no sense in it. Once i passed the 107
I was out flying with confidence knowing i new the right thing to do and how to do it. I would like to see everyone have A 107 before buying a Drone.
Need lovely 😍💋 💝💖❤️
Well, flying at night is a big no no. That all by its self started this ball rolling.
