DJI No Fly Zone EXPLAINED – Mavic Pro / Platinum / Air / Phantom / Spark

DJI No Fly Zone EXPLAINED – Mavic Pro / Platinum / Air / Phantom / Spark

See how the DJI no-fly zones restrict and prevent flight, how to authorize yourself to fly in a restricted no-fly zone, and why you must not rely on the no-fly zones for areas you should not actually fly in.

IMPORTANT: Please do not attempt to fly in no-fly zones without proper authorization and understanding of flying in these zones. This video is only to help people understand how this feature works, but is in no way condoning flying in no-fly zones.

At least if you had authorization from FAA thru Air Map Kittyhawk etc this would unlock drone to fly

  2. Elliot Huh? on April 9, 2021 at 1:11 am

If it’s your drone it’s your drone but to dji it’s their drone. Only place that makes sense is airport flight restrictions. There is geo fencing on buildings etc.

Restricted zone is still better if you dont want to Risk some buddy. FLYSAFE Guys!

Great video quick question. I just downloaded the air map app. It looks like you can select to fly recreationally or under part 107. So I went into a yellow zone just out of curiosity and when I selected hobbyist or whatever it said it said I couldn’t fly when I selected part 107 it gave me that no authorization was needed at or below 200 feet in that area. Then I clicked on another area and I went up to 300 feet obviously varying depending where you were in the yellow zone. So if you are part 107 does that allow you to fly in more places in yellow zones because it looks like if you tap on the App in a yellow zone under 107 it will let you fly at a certain altitude without any permission but then over 200 feet let’s say you have to get permission. Please go into a yellow area and select different pilot certifications and please help me out with this I would really appreciate it.
Please help me with this because it’s very confusing.

  8. mid191 on April 9, 2021 at 1:17 am

I love how you paid for the product and the company controls when and where you could fly it. Such as when a certain dictator decides to show up and everything suddenly becomes a no fly zone.

  10. jsarahina on April 9, 2021 at 1:21 am

I really thought that if my drone fly and entered the red zone, it will be uncontrollable and just hover there forever…

I’m 1 mile from the Ft Lauderdale airport and this confused me bc I had just opened it and wanted to try it out but the video helps and clears it up. Thx!! The authorization worked with a text for me.. pretty quick.

  12. popitn2nd on April 9, 2021 at 1:27 am

My area is covered by green zone by DJI app so you do not need an authorization and it’s ok to fly anytime right?

  14. Paris Holmes Films on April 9, 2021 at 1:29 am

It’s just crazy how it can prevent you from entering the red zone like there’s some type of vortex lmao

Kinda lame because I live on military housing, which is over 5 miles away from the actual airfield and the housing is not on base property, yet the airspace around the military housing is restricted. All the airspace from the housing to the base is yellow zone. So essentially I won’t be able to fly in my backyard once I get my Mavic Air.

  19. Casteel Cooper on April 9, 2021 at 1:32 am

Will you get in trouble flying a drone in a yellow zone?

  20. Fly Oz on April 9, 2021 at 1:33 am

So essentially ve just bought a drone that wont work I lve in a no fly zone in Australia and most of the damn country has no fly zones all over. Even our model RC field is in a No fly zone yet we have exemption for our aviation authority so Why does DJI dictate otherwise??
DJI should be sued for Not explaining at purchase the drone cant actually be used except very very limited areas.

  21. D Hansel on April 9, 2021 at 1:34 am

One thing about the part 107, they ask about weather. Since you are going to be flying in the line of sight why in the world do you need to know about weather.
    1. If it is raining (Don’t Fly)
    2. If there is too high wind (Don’t Fly)
    3. If there is sunny skies very little wind (Fly)
    3. If there is an approaching tornado (Don’t Fly)
    4. If there is an approaching hurricane (Don’t Fly)
    5. If you see an atomic bomb mushroom cloud (fly quickly)
You get what I mean. Use common sense.
I believe the guys who put the test together just wanted to add filler to it.
Now enjoy the hobby and don’t do anything stupid.

    Hello friends

I’ve been to such a flight zone and accepted at my own risk .. please look what happened to my poor mavic pro 2

  23. muzikmon2267 on April 9, 2021 at 1:34 am

It said something about return to home not working correctly when you unlock a-zone.

It would be cool if you could demonstrate what happens if you lose connection shut your controller off and see if the Drone comes right back..

  24. starhawke380 on April 9, 2021 at 1:35 am

Been flying my flamewheel with a Pixhawk controller and using QGroundControl for 2 years now and never run into this problem once! Must just be a DJI problem.

Just bought a mavic air. I live next to a hospital with a helicopter pad…I’ve been flying in the yellow zone and didn’t have to give any info…it just tells be basically to be careful.. anyone know why that is?

  30. Will Alex Bom Braga on April 9, 2021 at 1:39 am

Good night, man, I have a Mavic Air, I live near a military base so they asked me for email, cell phone and would send a code. If I fly within my country, it automatically releases the flight. Thank you very much.

hi.At the beginning of the video, you succeeded in passing the red line. Why did the drone manage to pass, the red line opposite to the second time when you got to the red line and backed off

  33. D Hansel on April 9, 2021 at 1:41 am

What’s the deal about giving them your credit card? How is that going to get you into the yellow zone?

  34. G M.S on April 9, 2021 at 1:42 am

So u have to pay whit the credit card or what

  35. RAPA Ent. on April 9, 2021 at 1:42 am

Great video as always! I have learned so much from your videos and just came across this one. I’m a Newbie and just received my Mavic Air. Currently, I only have AirMap on my MacBook Pro which shows all the airports, etc.. Please correct me if I’m wrong; I thought all I had to do was notify any airport/s in a "yellow only" radius (AirMap) when I’m within five miles from it and give them my location and how long I’ll be flying. Now, I have to follow up by going through DJI’s GEO Unlock process as well using a credit card? Why a credit card? I understand the DJI wants verification but, couldn’t this be done by serial or registration number’s? Thanks again for the great video. Ray

AS FAR AS THE APPS GO:
-DJIFLY does not have the same restrictions/authorization requirements as the other apps. This app states fly with caution and I can launch if I wanted too.
-The other two state I need LAANC. However the apps state "LAANC authorization is not possible" when I tried to authorize it denies authorization due to multiple reasons such as (SSI) SPECIAL SECURITY Instructions which is from the ground up 400 FEET AGL and AUTOMATIC LAANC APPROVALS not valid in CLASS E space.
    – I contacted AIRMAP since they did not have the MINI 2 listed in the authorization process. AIRMAP as of this writing now has been added due to my inquiry. I thought the denials were due to the drone not being listed.

    FAA results:
    – The FAA emails stated " You must be a Part 107 certificated remote pilot in order to be eligible to apply for a Part 107 waiver to fly in this area. This was not guaranteed even if I do get my PART 107

Unlocking of blue no-fly-zone does not work with my Mavic. I have tried in the app and online on the DJI website.

  47. Maltese Falcon on April 9, 2021 at 2:01 am

Does it effect the intelligent flight modes and sport mode if your in a yellow restricted zone? Just got my mavic air, it wouldn’t take off in a red zone but took off in a yellow but very slow and sport mode didn’t make a difference?
