  3. Ray Kelly on September 23, 2020 at 11:47 am

Another great video, Billy. You learn something new everyday. I appreciate it as I was trying to do it on Monday but could not. Now I know. Thank you, Sir. Fly safe.

  4. Alexandro Rocca on September 23, 2020 at 11:47 am

I’m 200 meters inside an authorization zone (small airport). Not that I would fly my drones around the house for the fun of it, but sometimes you just want to test something and not be forced to drive somewhere else. What’s unfair is that people who fly RC models that don’t have GPS can pretty much do what they want if no one sees them and drones are actually much safer.

  5. jaro2450m on September 23, 2020 at 11:47 am

You supostu showing how to unlock geo authorization zone not how to showing personal information to scumbag s . That’s why people buying mini 149 grams to not have dealing with this ashols.

  8. Z on September 23, 2020 at 11:50 am

This is exactly what I was looking for – thank you! I submitted a request via DJI’s website but also downloaded Kittyhawk too. I plan on flying in the mountains next month and the DJI map says my area is an Authorization Zone but using Kittyhawk it says it’s free hmm I’ll update later.

  9. Akshay Vats on September 23, 2020 at 11:51 am

Very irritating guy, talks too much with little value addition.

  10. SideshowBoB44 on September 23, 2020 at 11:53 am

8:51 This screen never loaded for me, i had to get the licence on the DJI website first.

  11. Roman Wilson on September 23, 2020 at 11:53 am

How was there no mention of connecting to the DJI account or drone itself? It seems you’ve skipped something

  12. marshall branin on September 23, 2020 at 11:58 am

Wow! Thanks for this. Honestly from all the complaining I’ve heard, I expected this to be far more limiting than it actually is. At least in South Jersey where I am, the only actual restricted areas are those I would avoid simply based on common sense. Upon looking up NYC, I am concerned with the accuracy of these maps though. It seems way more free than expected.

I hope somebody can help me understand something. Im using the kittyhawk app, and i see the major airports and the restriction zones, but when im near small airports, i see no restriction zones. i thought there is a 5 mile zone for all airports. can somebody clarify my concern?

  16. Alex Vikendi on September 23, 2020 at 12:04 pm

I live near a Jail/Prison I’m fucked, big red circle around me, couldn’t take off. And not everybody is living in the US…

I live in Philly and just got my Mavic Mini! I didn’t realize you were in Philly until the end of the video! Thanks so much for this playlist, I haven’t even turned the mini on yet, batteries charging. I’m a Mentalist and performer and wanted to get into content creation and better footage for my work. But now I’ve become just addicted to the art itself, photography/videography. Your videos are a huge help.

  19. Jager Gerg on September 23, 2020 at 12:08 pm

I live in Delanco, every time I go over river my remote goes crazy with Geo Zone and altitude warnings. No I know what they mean thanks.

  21. Start To Finish Podcasting on September 23, 2020 at 12:10 pm

When I tab on "Add" it doesnt give me a choice to choose LAANC Authorization. It only gives me the option of "Log Flight" and "Log Checklist" I dont have the drone yet but I just installed the app. Why cant I see the same options you see here in the 5:17 mark of this video?

  22. Dennis Dischler on September 23, 2020 at 12:11 pm

curious why every time I apply for auth i get a text saying Manual FAA Contraolled airspace auth is under review,. They will attempt to respond in 30 days. And then it cancels day before I want to shoot

Your videos are great. I’m contemplating to purchase a Mavic Mini, but after downloading the Airmap app, I realized there are very few places I could fly the drone in West Palm Beach FL, all the interesting places are prohibited. The airmap app shows circles of every color where there are restrictions of one kind or another and leaves all the uninteresting places free to fly. Please tell me Why would should I bother buying a drone?

  24. Evan Sorlien on September 23, 2020 at 12:12 pm

I’m flying a Mavic Air 2 which I assume uses the same DJI fly app as the mini, but when I open it in an authorization zone I’m not getting that prompt to self unlock. What gives?

  25. Patrick Jones on September 23, 2020 at 12:13 pm

Finally gets into the topic of the video at 4:28 …

  26. Adam G on September 23, 2020 at 12:13 pm

App only gives me option for 2 checklists, no auth option

  27. Earn With Hearn on September 23, 2020 at 12:17 pm

    Didn’t work. No codes

  28. GTFOplan on September 23, 2020 at 12:19 pm

GREAT video – thanks! We live in the Washington DC area – a red zone. Can you do a video on how to unlock that? We did not receive approval from the FAA for this purpose (recreational use).

  29. Miketrt on September 23, 2020 at 12:21 pm

5:17 : Press add… urr… screeching stop. My controller is on, connected to my Mavic Pro (assuming Kitty doesn’t care if it’s Mini or not) get either "log flight" or "log checklist." Damn. Can’t even get past step one.

  30. Horace Peterson on September 23, 2020 at 12:22 pm

Question: Do you have to be outside of the zone to get the auth: prompt? I was inside of a zone yesterday and nothing popped up.

  31. Dan on September 23, 2020 at 12:23 pm

Kittyhawk states I’m OK to fly, DJI states I’m in an authorization zone. WTF??

  32. Patrick Jones on September 23, 2020 at 12:25 pm

I click on "add" and the only options I get are Log Flight and Log Checklist… there is no option for Request LAANC Authorization. I’m near a really old airport that isn’t used anymore and it is under a blue zone.

  33. largon 03 on September 23, 2020 at 12:26 pm

Is Area 51 considered a geo zone?..

  34. Forest Weston on September 23, 2020 at 12:28 pm

Ok, the Kittyhawk app works great for getting the authorization, very easy. I cannot get the Geo zone unlocked on my Mavic Air 2. I am running the latest version of the Fly app along with the latest firmware on the aircraft. I really thought I was smarter than this! Any suggestions???

  35. hwangster123 on September 23, 2020 at 12:29 pm

So I follow his steps, and got a text from Kittyhawk or some # that I’m approved, but I don’t see any Verification # on that long text? Anyone have any suggestions? Also I need to use the joystick to get the "Geo Zone" red Bar? Thank you in advance.

  36. JP JR on September 23, 2020 at 12:29 pm

Do you have to have a part 107 certificate to apply for authorization?
Edit Okay my bad you answered my question around 6:00

  37. EJM3 on September 23, 2020 at 12:30 pm

So the areas that don’t have any zones means you can fly, land and take off with no approval and restrictions correct? My only thing is that what if a police officer says you can’t fly here, without having any knowledge of regulations about authorization zones and thinks it is illegal? So if there is no zone indicated on the map there shouldn’t be a problem flying right? No matter the state you’re in?

  38. Nexus Technology on September 23, 2020 at 12:30 pm

okay how do just disable the noflight zones?

  39. Enrique Bobe on September 23, 2020 at 12:30 pm

so what your saying is that its a 1 step process of just skipping the whole kittyhawk app and go straight to starting up the drone and confirming your phone number.

  40. Aris Pandazi on September 23, 2020 at 12:31 pm

Would love you to do and unlocking red zone video on my own land and I can’t fly it’s a red zone Love your videos and your Passion

  41. Start To Finish Podcasting on September 23, 2020 at 12:33 pm

Your KittyHawk app and my KittyHawk app are complete ly different. I am not getting any of the same choices you are getting. Is my app outdated? Is yours? I am so lost

  42. Lee Kotrlik on September 23, 2020 at 12:36 pm

I get that Android 10 is not supported. I suppose I will not be using Kittyhawk.

It looks like you can’t fly your drone anywhere; unless you go to Antarctica, and even there it might be restricted.

  46. warren D BAXTER on September 23, 2020 at 12:36 pm

Hello Billy, these steps don’t apply to the phantom 4 pro v2.0, I received my authorization but did not the prompts you did, I had to go to the dji fly safe area in the dji website, apply for an unlock license and then it sent me a code via my phone and then I was able to unlock my drone to fly, now my question is, did I do something wrong or is this the process to fly ? Thanks

What happened to personal responsibility, letting a Chinese company choose to big brother you is asinine, sure, there should be a warning however completely locking you out is insane. Do dodge hellcats cap your speedometer at 60MPH?

  48. Start To Finish Podcasting on September 23, 2020 at 12:40 pm

Why is it I do have the "Get Authorization" button as you do in the 5:28 mark of this video?

  49. Joe Riggs on September 23, 2020 at 12:41 pm

Also, since I’m in South Philly, and tips about good places to go practice. I’m going to need a lot of practice before I’m ready to use this for the shots I need professionally.

When I press "unock" in the Fly ap, all I get is a white screen. Nothing else.
