Caught Flying a Drone in India… WHAT HAPPENED NEXT ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I got caught and taken away by the Indian Police for flying my drone in a restricted area in India – The Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Find out what happened at the Police station and the drone laws for foreigners who want to fly a drone in India.

The rules for flying a drone in India are straightforward. If you’re an Indian, you need to download the Government’s Digital Sky Platform and apply for permission each time through the app if your drone is over 250 grams in weight (a DJI Spark is 305 grams). Visit the Digital Sky Portal at https://digitalsky.dgca.gov.in/.

If you’re a foreigner the drone laws are simple too, you can’t fly your drone in India! There’s no easy way for foreigners to fly here yet. So you need to get an Indian person to get the permissions for you and operate the drone. Or risk being caught by the Indian Police. In remote parts, I don’t think you’ll have an issue flying, but in big cities or tourist spots, the Police are watching for drones.

I was caught flying my DJI Spark drone on Bharatpur Beach on Neil Island (now Shaheed Dweep) in the Andaman & Nicobar Island Union Territory of India.

Governments hate new consumer technology. They tried to do stuff like this when cell phones/smart phones first came about, but then theyโ€™re too ubiquitous to be excessively regulated. Unfortunately drones are niche enough that a ton of countries are making them impossible to use.

Indiaโ€™s laws (so far as I have read) do not allow foreigners to fly drones at all.

Hey you should tell them that you could fly there, cause if you have a dji spark, the dji go 4 App could tell you where can’t you fly. So if you fly there and get no warning from the app. Then you suppose to be fine. They are giving wrong information to you๐Ÿ˜
    Btw nice content ๐Ÿ‘Œ

  28. thegreatujo on September 14, 2020 at 11:48 am

why would you compare your right to fly a drone in an area because the military or the government have drones in that area ? I just didn’t get that part. It’s just like saying that because the gov’t or military have the right to fly drones over the Pentagon , you should also. Would you make the same assumption ?

  30. Shanoo Revankar on September 14, 2020 at 11:50 am

@Karl..Most authorities do not understand whats the security risk or not. It’s very frustrating. I bet there was no alert sign or board to alert tourists about no flying of drones. It’s all messed up. Pardon their lack of knowledge and ignorance. the public can be a snitch at times.

  45. akankshit jha on September 14, 2020 at 12:13 pm

You must know the law of India, for Indians flying drone without getting it registered in India is illegal, and you also need to take permission before every flight of drone. Adding to it, Andaman and Nicobar is a sensitive place. And foreigners are not allowed to fly a drone.
And don’t tell that you didn’t know the law, because ignorance of law is not an excuse.

Bro I saw your Delhi metro video yesterday and this one today. In the metro video you said moral policing is unnecessary unless it’s a major crime and in this one you said the exact opposite. Love your videos but just pointing out the inconsistency.
P.S. In my opinion the metro guy was rude and that’s what the problem was, not the fact that he informing you of the rule. Anyway love to you and your family.

  48. Ritam Ghosh on September 14, 2020 at 12:17 pm

Next time before visiting someplace, please read the dos and don’ts. Andaman and Nicobar islands have very strict drone restrictions. It was very stupid and irresponsible.
