You’re not wrong ethically but legally the law is on the drone owners side, per federal law no one owns the airspace above their property and you’re also wrong that they have to be a minimum of 400 ft away from a house. Also if you shoot a drone down you’re looking at federal charges as the FAA considers shooting a drone the same as shooting a conventional aircraft regardless if it’s over your property or not, I’m not saying it’s right but that’s the law.

With that said the drone operator was a moron for flying that close to your property without asking permission, he very well may of thought your property was just really cool looking and wanted footage of it but the ethical thing for him to do would be to ask permission first.

I’m sorry you had to deal with a drone operator that lacked common sense

I mean I’d just shoot it with a shotgun if it was within the property and close enough to the ground. Around here that would be totally fine.

According to the U.S. Constitution: Yes. According to everything else: No.

  4. Dan Difusco on May 25, 2022 at 6:55 pm

no you didn’t overreact. you don’t know if that guy is casing your property or not. if that guy were me and I wanted to fly around i would come to your house and ask permission if i could fly maybe over your property but not hover anywhere near your home.

It happend to me. I went local fb, said I’m gunna find ya, and fight ya. It stopped.

  6. Gary Peterson on May 25, 2022 at 6:57 pm

You are outdoors, there is no expectation of privacy. And for your info it is a federal crime to shoot at aircraft. You don’t own the airspace above your house, the FAA is in control of all airspace. Just something to think about before you get into trouble that way.

I have an air2s, I wanted to see if a drone could see into my house during the day, I flew it up within 5 ft of the 2nd story window, couldn’t see maybe past a ft at best or so inside, nighttime with lights on though would be another story, plus you’d hear it outside because it’s loud

  12. John Gooderham on May 25, 2022 at 7:07 pm

Saying you’re going to use your friends at the sheriff’s office to get this guys info isn’t very smart. You’re "friends" would be engaging in unconstitutional actions.
I wouldn’t pray for your dumbass if I was paid

Was he a realtor? He seemed pretty rude and like he got caught doing something but did not want to admit it. You did the right thing. This is an old response, but still stands. God bless.

  14. Susanna Donovan on May 25, 2022 at 7:07 pm

They’re probably casing your place for burglary. Another YouTube channel have cameras on their property and caught the individual going into their property and stealing a lot of their equipment. The individual was caught spray painting cameras, and didn’t see the third one viewing him. Got Police involved and caught the thief who lived only a few miles away. He didn’t press charges though. He should have. He has a channel for off roading and the guy who robbed him, actually had one of their T-shirts. Unbelievable.

Ok but who authorise you to stop people and ask personal questions?? He didnt have to tell you anything its his own free will. And if you use your police buddys to check him out you and your police guys are breaking the law and especialy your friends using their job to get info thats not public

  20. Kristopher kiliadis on May 25, 2022 at 7:14 pm

Absolutely frightening, this is one thing I always wondered about from people having a large channel on YouTube. Especially when your content is related to your homestead and showing your property and what not. Who knows if this guy could be staking out you’re property or worse. I don’t think your reaction was too much, I believe it was perfectly warranted and I would have done exactly the same. Stay vigil Wranglerstar.

  27. Bensno on May 25, 2022 at 7:25 pm

Casing it out. Looking for things to steal. I would have reacted the same. Youre a nice guy and you were tactful. Didn’t even show his tag on the video. I woulda had a hard time being as nice as you were. Good job

  28. dave norton on May 25, 2022 at 7:25 pm

  30. Blake Baker on May 25, 2022 at 7:27 pm

Hone your skeet shooting skills. He’s lucky it wasn’t my home and property. Coyotes in my area are thick and hungry.

  33. Nature as it is on May 25, 2022 at 7:31 pm

Yes we should be allowed to shoot down a drone over our home.

  34. Shawn Lavigne on May 25, 2022 at 7:31 pm

I think you handled it very well. Hope it doesn’t happen again.

  35. Phillip Mulligan on May 25, 2022 at 7:31 pm

Good thing you restrained yourself from trying to shoot down the drone and instead report the incident to your police. You have a right to use a gun but you can also be opening a messy can of worms in the process legally speaking. You did the right thing.

Simple cover your face, do not come from your home. I’ve nailed 4 so far cops came 2 times. We "found" the debris with bullet holes. Not from any gun I "own" must be one of the many farmers. 😉 Love punk tears

  43. Sam Greason on May 25, 2022 at 7:42 pm

I hate to say it but file with the FAA…I don’t think it’s too late. He knew who you were. You didn’t overact. My blood would have been boiling. I’d been shaking, I would have been so mad.

  44. Robert Koehler on May 25, 2022 at 7:45 pm

The guy in the exterra should never have stopped….just keep going. Tragic road rage incident in the making. was the person in the exterra trespassing on private property?

  45. ACTION DAN on May 25, 2022 at 7:45 pm

You’re a paranoid nut, looking for any excuse to complain about your rights before you even stop to think for 1 second. He was an average drone owner that wanted to drive to a hilltop and film the beautiful landscape we can see from the first second of your video.
Not many people have a huge forest and a tall snowy mountain in their back yard. If his drone was low, there filming your tiny back yard up close with nothing in it but 2 girls swimming in a pool. Then maybe you’d have a starting point of something to complain about. None of your accusation was thought about and can’t make any sense. He was most likely hundreds of meters away from you house at the closest moment. And what could he possibly do? Randomly pull up in the middle of nowhere, rather than the front of a multiple story apartment building. Then fly to a random window of your house. And what? ……………….hope that in the next 20mins max before his battery runs out. That no one will hear the loud drone instantly and that then a little girl will quickly run in that room and start taking her clothes off?
You guys are nuts, with no logical thinking. If he filmed you with his mobile at a beach, a playground or even a set of traffic lights he would be breaking your privacy 100x more but you’ve never thought to complain of that one, have you?

  46. Hobart W on May 25, 2022 at 7:46 pm

You ought to be required to shoot them down.

  47. Totally Unfiltered on May 25, 2022 at 7:46 pm

Yup, I’d say 100′ is getting into the gray area between FAA approved airspace and privacy. I think you did overreact. They don’t have to be 400′ high but no higher than 400′, big difference. I’m glad you know the laws though. Shooting at drones is a federal crime punishable by up to 20 years in prison. I would chill out a little. Maybe this person flying the drone is interested in your property and wants to see it from the air. He might be employed by a bank or something as well who may want to buy it or a Zillow or something like that. Would you shoot at a helicopter flying over your property? When I was in flight school in ’90, there was a guy in AL who routinely shot at Navy helicopters on low levels. He was eventually caught and sent to prison. Only the FAA has jurisdiction over the airspace above your house and everyone else’s house. I still feel your sentiment but that’s the way it is man.
