It’s a bit more than $500, but check out the new Mavic Air 2: https://bit.ly/2MavicAir
If you are buying a drone as a gift or buying one for yourself, these are some great options to consider. They vary in price, but are all under $500 USD. The quality of all of these drones is solid for what you pay and the performance is worth checking out. Each drone has a full review linked above.

I got this EZ Pilot (basically on your recommendation) and I wouldn’t recommend to anyone for any reason, especially a beginner. In easy mode it basically has 2 speeds, full-throttle or off and it doesn’t follow the controls at all. The controls seem to have a little effect on the what it’s doing, but when they do it’s never what you expect. I’ll describe a flight…You pitch forward, it yaws (sometimes), you yaw, nothing happens, same thing happens when you throttle down (until you throttle all the way down) then the EX Pilot rapidly descends. The only way I’ve been able to get it to hover is tie it to a string (so it can’t fly away, that’s why the string.)
The Syma X5 W was my first drone and I really enjoyed flying it. Great choice of drones Kelly. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. 👍🏻👍🏻
Well not sure about this drone. We found a super drone for 99$, bought it for kids but I probably use it more. It has follow mode, 360, rotate, great quality, and long fly time. If anyone interested read here is review from some guy thegeniusbright.com/pages/drone-x
Hi, I am planning on buying a drone for myself soon to compliment my photography hobby. The FAA rules on what I can and can’t do seem a little unclear to me. If I wanted to post my videos on YouTube or Facebook as an easy way to share with my friends/family, would I be required to pay for and take the part 107 exam? I don’t have monetization turned on and don’t plan on turning it on.
Thanks for the video, I am leaning towards starting with Mavic Mini for starters…What was your first drone when starting out?😁❤👍👍😎
Xiaomi FIMI X8 SE is the best beginner drone (DJI Mini is the best but his achilles heel is the wind )
How do you know what drones can record video or do all of them?
how come you have never mentioned the fimi x8???????your obviously in dji,s pocket…..
I’d love to get a drone for my YouTube shots… Totally newbe… What’s my fastest learning curve? Learn the 1st drone then get a maverick?
After watching your review of the Potensic A20 I bought one. Then a friend saw it. He bought one. Then his son saw it. He bought one! Great wintertime/halftime football/ obstacle course practically indestructible and safe tons of fun!
i got the mavic mini! great drone!
Hey !!! Just Check It Out At Amazon For Kids Drones : https://amzn.to/2PLBrr0
I hate having alot of fun or ton of fun that actually lasts 2 mins max pls refer me something till 150 dollars that Can fly 15 + minutes i like the sport look of a racing quad but i dont need speed what can i get for this something for rxploratiin
A30
Love your reviews! For a beginner do you prefer white or darker colored drones? Seems like most are white but darker may be easier to keep track of against the sky.
I had the tello for one year,
Now mavic mini here I come!
Been flying the x5C as a beginner… great recommendation! I also experienced my first flyaway yesterday when I decided to give it a flight outside and underestimated the wind. LOL. Recovered it about 100 yards away after it’s kite impersonation. #rookiedronenerd
Great video, Kelly. Love my Mavic Mini. It’s awesome. Will be great for traveling. It’s coming on our cruise to Key West, Mexico, Belize and Honduras in 2 weeks. I subscribed to your channel, please subscribe to my channel too Fly safe.
Thanks now know what to buy
Zino Pro for $409 from Amazon (2 batteries, case, and car charger) is a good 4K, 3 axis gimbal quadcopter comparable to the mini. Can also get optional lens filters, 4200 and 5000maH batteries for 30 minute flight time.
Nice beginner drones, except Tello, there are better for the price. As for a $400 drone for a kid, you must be joking. It is not exactly affordable to everyone, just like that.
Good advice. Learn how to fly before you get a $399 Mavic Mini. Already the planet is covered in 10 feet of lost Mavic Mini’s.
How long is the battery life
Ayy the A20 Firefly
Great video my friend! I’ll use this one with my new class.
Liking your “best of” series Kellly! This list has some awesome choices. Use my Tello as my inside flyer when I cant fly outside!
Eachine e016h altitude hold armed..
I’m surprised you recommend the Emax EZ Pilot over the Tinyhawk.
Nice list but as with all lists not everyone is going to agree. For me, no one should start below the Tello unless they want a toy for a bit of fun for a few hours. Then come a host of affordable decent gps drones for low to high 100s and then into better camera drones like Eachine ex4 or Mavic Mini. Just my opinion but definitely not worth spending $30 or $40 on a toy unless it’s a very young kid.
My husband and I are newbies when it comes to drones. So happy to find your channel!
I love my Mavic Mini. It’s my first drone and it’s awesome!!
A very nice selection of afford drones, I’ve had a few of them. And I really enjoy my Mavic Mini, I take it with me everywhere due to it’s small size. Great video Kelly, and Happy New Year.
Mini now is like hot girl… every body wanna own one… Include me.. lol… but I married and had 2 kids… can’t afford her now…. oh by the way Sir I’m still watching your channel since I love drone… As new year 2020 I wishing you and your family have a great new year, good luck and much happiness…. Sir…
I got a pro Chinese drone, and I crashed it. Thanks for da advice to get beginner drones, cuz I’m a ultimate n00b😂😂👍👍
how i wish someone give me a drone on my birthday in april 23 2020 even it is use.and even it is cheap.,….. how i wish..
The Mavic Mini is like Tello 3 and the reason for Tello 2 don’t exist (a tello with SD, 1080p and GPS for 125 usd and mini will be forget) thanks dji
All fun ones. Tello and mini my favorites. Thanks buddy for sharing
I don’t have a drone yet and I’m trying to decide which to get.
Is it worth getting one under 250g to begin with, so I don’t have to pay for registration and tests?
Recent retiree and newly into the hobby. Really want to thank you for this video and the excellent recommendations. I struggled through a couple of expensive "beginner" drones and was really getting depressed until I saw your list.
Now I’m flying and getting experience that will help raise my confidence in those other drones.
New subscriber and member. Keep up the good work please.
All great picks! I recommend syma for a first drone! But that mini mavic… nice!
Just a heads up I got the emax ez piolate and one of the motors out of te box burnt out immediately
I subscribe 😊
Really great (and short) video! There are a couple of nice manored 10 year old-ish kids on my street who get jaw dropped whenever I fly my Spark in the front yard. The Potensic A20 sounds like something that should keep them out of my hair for a while.
Good video,
good products selection, Every thing is just fine.
I’v also created the list on the similar topic on the link given below. You guys can check and comments.

Great picks Kelly!!
So what is FPV mean
Your videos while A-1 do NOT seem to mention or cover what if any phones or tablets are compatible with the drones you mentioned and reviewed. I myself have done an exhaustive search and am quite confused. I have gotten conflicting information. Perhaps you might want to cover this in your videos. I have found the process of finding a reasonably priced phone or tablet that is compatible with the Mavic Mini to be an infuriating waste of time. I presently own an LG K40 Android phone. I was able to download the DJI Go 4 app on to my phone. However I am unsure as to whether my present phone is compatible with the Mavic Mini. My LG K40 Android phone is running Android version 9. I am unsure as to whether I am running the required 64 Bit or if I am running 32 Bit which from what I gather would NOT be enough to run the Mavic Mini. Any thoughts or suggestions? I have subscribed to your channel btw. No I have NOT yet purchased the Mavic Mini. I am intending to in the NOT so distant future provided that I can find and afford a reasonably priced tablet. I would rather NOT have to purchase another phone.
I’m an absolute beginner here I have never flown a drone in my life and I want to get into videography but I didn’t know where to start or what to do but thanks to your video I know the right steps to take I’m going to get your first option since it’s only for thirty bucks I can learn the ins and out and how to control a drone and afterwards I could get the Maverick Mini 😁 and just slowly move up as my drone skills and videography skills get better ones again thank for this very informative video
Can i have one of dji mavic mini im big fan of dji products so please
Great Reviews !! Question…. What is out there that would be somewhat comparable to the Mavic Mini ? I do not, nor will I ever fly the drones as much as aircraft but when I do, I would like to take awesome videos and pics without paying the price of a DJI right now. Thanks !
