What about control-settings? You should let your drone hover in case of lost contact. It appears to me that it tried to RTH. Am i wright?

So sorry for you 😢 I had a very similar situation with a Mavic Pro whilst flying slowly under an arched stone bridge. Thankfully, I could see the drone from the riverbank and I was controlling the drone from behind, so left was left and right was right (rather than facing the drone). Like your situation, as soon as it lost gps, it drifted to the left and upwards. I managed to quickly correct it and continue through but boy, it was close!
For my 2nd attempt, i did a few practice runs to line up with the dead centre of the arch then flew through at speed. It worked and looked very effective.
Another point is that I ensure that my insurance covers me for Accidental Loss ‘without’ having to produce the drone. How can one produce the drone when it’s been swept downstream or ends up in the sea?

Me and my friends just crashed two mavics today because of a bridge… one fall like yours in the river and the other one was uncontrollable and flew in a tree 🙁

Nice video – thank you. I am sorry your drone was lost.

I disagree about the floats and even the prop guards, but I think it’s natural to be cautious like this after losing a drone.

Fly in line of sight, from the side, so that your drone gets a clear signal. Set "When signal is lost" to "Hover". That way the drone will stay in place if the RC signal is lost. Before going under the bridge, make sure you are low enough to see the far edge of underside of the bridge.

Again, thanks for providing this video – we all need to learn from one another’s mistakes.

Man, I was a dumbass and flew mine through a culvert under the road about 25 feet long and it did the same thing and all I heard was that grind and bang on the metal and a SPLOOSH and she went under. I dove in (it was winter) and I found it in 5 feet of water. Soaking wet I took it home and sank it in rubbing alcohol and dried it in rice and she was flying like new two days later. Never going under a structure again

Great information, well done, do you have the video of the actual crash with out it being slowed frame by frame ?

Great tips … I was wondering can you set RTH height low enough that if you do lose signal it would RTH low enough to come back out with hitting the underneath of the bridge ?

I lost my Mavic Pro the other day to a very similar situation.  It was a small 1 lane bridge (that I was standing on, I hadn’t seen this advice), and it went straight under the bridge, and when it came out it was at an angle and hit some trees.  The Mavic dropped into the water.  The problem is, that it happened near the top of a waterfall, and its winter now.  Its not worth going in the water at this moment for it.  I will see if I can get it if the water lowers a little bit.  Glad you got yours back.
