Rushed out before it was fully ready (101-3 still not updated, but I guess the spanky new website was ready) the recreational drone flying rules in Australia have been updated as expected.
For a lot of pilots this brings the actual rules in line with what was commonly misinterpreted and spread as FUD.
Hobby and recreational flights are now banned from flying over 120 metres (Class G airspace was permitted) as well as flying within 5.5km of a controlled aerodrome (previous rules restricted flight near ANY aerodrome to 120 metres).
The 30 metre rule has been clarified to be measured laterally from the ground point directly below the drone (previously there was no distinction and a “dome” radius was commonly interpreted)… this clarified the “populous” rule which was often incorrectly misinterpreted by many.
