Air Racer Prototype Racing Drone – Flight and Track Testing

After Round 4 of EastSide Summer season we had a Visitor from Interstate wanting Thomas to test fly his prototype quad and see it run through it’s paces. Anyway I hope you enjoy this sort of content. We didn’t plan on videoing it but Paul didn’t mind so we shot some footage.

    I’ve actually been thinking something like this was long overdue to hit the racing scene! I’m very curious to see what would happen if the two horizontal arms where used to generate just a bit of lift. Would allow for stupid high camera angles, and incredibly small batteries

    I wonder how it would fly if the arms were airfoiled control surfaces like fins on a missle. Maybe something like 3d heli blades on the trailing edge of the arms with 4 servos.
    They could act like wings, elevator, rudder, ailerons and even act like thrust vectoring paddles.

    I’ve been saying this for a long time and it seems Paul has designed something like what I have wanted; aero, nice looking quads. That thing looks cool. It has everything tucked away neatly. I was always a fan of the DRL Racer 3 and 4, and I like the clean look of the DJI FPV (despite its functional flaws).

    And what is with that current sensor always reading 60A?

    Excellent stuff… great to see something different and some real innovation. Of course we all know that Thomas could get a potato around the track in under 5 seconds but it’s still an interesting craft

    Interesting design.. Problem I see is when you crash and you are the on the ground there is very little chance of getting back up since 2 motors are squarely on the ground.

    pop on a bridge plug so it can be powered up and powered down without opening the case as much – have it ready to go with battery installed and then an external bridge to give it life
