  5. Lindsay Heyes on October 5, 2020 at 12:00 pm

I can add one to the list: Flying low over a leafy crop. I flew about a foot above the leaves of a crop on level ground, then the drone passed over a barren patch which was out of sight. When it got to the other side, the crop triggered the ground sensor, the drone thought it was in the final stage of landing and it dumped itself in the middle of the field. There is nothing like the feel of the dew on your jeans on a cold morning to make you note that low flight over dead ground is to be eschewed.

Thx for the video! Awesome info. I’m a newbie to all this so more info the better. I was wo during if you’d recommend the Mavic mini or the Air. The air package is about $150 TO $200 more but seems like all the sensors it has might be worth it. Plus the 4k video but that’s not that important to me. Let me know your thoughts plz. Thank you,…..E

  9. Chris Greig on October 5, 2020 at 12:02 pm

Excellent tips. I’m thinking of upgrading from a Hubsan H502s to a Mavic mini. (Mainly for the better photo and video quality.) I totally agree with your advice about not having your first flight inside.
Pick a large open space outside and try to make sure there’s no members of the public close by. So much easier to concentrate if it’s just you and your drone to think about.

  16. Darren Miller on October 5, 2020 at 12:07 pm

Best way to lose your drone: fly over a trailer park or rural property without permission. Boom!

  17. Harry Lawrence on October 5, 2020 at 12:09 pm

Great video, thank you. I’ve just purchased a Mavic Mini. I’m petrified of flying it too far away. I’ve had a couple of messages come up about signal loss and at one point a loss of connection to the remote controller (these are with the drone pretty close). How far away do you reckon I could safely fly the drone?

  18. Voidless on October 5, 2020 at 12:10 pm

I have rule for my drone
You have to come back no matter what if its under 35 % battery

  19. Schalk Loots on October 5, 2020 at 12:10 pm

Very important lesson I learned…if your drone doesn’t have GPS , don’t let it get too far so you can’t see in which way it’s going. You will have a good chance of sending it in the wrong direction even further sway untill it is not recoverable. If in doubt, put it in headless mode immediately and pull back the RH control in the opposite direction from where it’s at to return it.

Around the 5:45mark on this video, a person gets into the water to try catch the drone before it could sink. Your edit left me wondering: “Did that drone sink?”

  23. Sjoed14 06 on October 5, 2020 at 12:16 pm

It’s really cool the video creator still replies to questions and comments while the video is 2-3 years old.

  24. Neil Davidson on October 5, 2020 at 12:19 pm

Yep, know all about flying indoors, getting panicked etc. Try flying indoors in Sport mode! That’ll get you panicked real fast. They are amazing but big learning curve on top of specific rules in your area. I’m thinking of getting a strobe so I can see the drone at what would otherwise be “ lost in the background “ distances. RTH is amazing but that max altitude before it returns could an an issue. Requires a lot of situational awareness.

  31. Mark Whittaker on October 5, 2020 at 12:31 pm

Hello all, my Mavic Pro lost signal after I flew it in a breeze, the the breeze at 10m turned into a hurricane! I could not bring the drone back even with home return. My drone landed about 500m away in the middle of a country lane. A very nasty old man picked up my drone before I got there and Ripped off the camera! He also demanded £30 before he handed over the drone, battery and sim card!
    Has anyone encouted this? Thanks

Does anyone know what I can do to fix my contixo f22 drone that keeps flying to the right and left without my control making it do so.

  35. Mayson Vidal on October 5, 2020 at 12:34 pm

    Good day!
I am a beginner who has flown a drone and now I have tried that this is how your drone loses control at the height of the fact that it is not damaged why did he lose control because I could not fully charge the battery before I flew it. so I am now taking care of flying so that my drone does not lose control again.

So for everyone who starts flying, make sure your battery is fully charged.

    Thanks for the video.👍

  38. Digital Kite Aerial Photography & Videography on October 5, 2020 at 12:37 pm

Very useful! I’m sure someone has commented by now about these but not having a proper preparation will cause you to crash as well! Not checking the weather, flight restrictions, no preflight checks like checking your props & making sure your battery is situated correctly. Thanks.

  41. D G on October 5, 2020 at 12:40 pm

Great video. You’re describing a safe mindset.

One thing I learned is to watch out for birds. Especially territorial birds or around nests.
They will see your drone as an intruder or a threat in their airspace.

If you happen to observe eagles or other predatorial birds in the area, avoid them. If you must fly within their territory, don’t go to full altitude. Leave some headroom for a quick evasive maneuvre straight up if you see a bird charging the drone. As this is unusual behavior for a prey. Not only will a bird attack lead to an almost certain crash, but your rotors may cause serious injury to the animal.

I bought my son a Contixo F18 drone ($179), yesterday we flew in and on the second run I took off and disappeared into the heavens. I tried the “return to home” button but we just had no control. What happened?? I am talking to Contixo customer service trying to get a new one…

  44. john brotherton on October 5, 2020 at 12:41 pm

Great video. Just one other way to crash. Don’t fly when you’re pissed! It really doesn’t work, and when you wake up the next morning, 1500 quid REALLY is a lot of money.

  45. Steve Hammond on October 5, 2020 at 12:43 pm

Has anyone else had this? I upset a some seagulls who took a dislike to my mavic and attacked!
Luckily I was close to home and managed to avoid too much damage.
